Thanks for the always so informative replay Tristan. And well, if Scawen has managed to put in all that, I must say that the time taken is more than acceptable.

Can anyone tell if clutch heat has been tried in any other sim before? I can't recall any.

Interesting, very interesting.

I would like to know what differences there are in clutches used in normal road cars and proper racing cars.

I've been under the impression that in race cars you need more revs and the car is easier to stall. But is it because the clutch bites that hard, or because all the torque is on the high revs? How are clutches used in racing cars and road cars physically different, and how is the difference shown when used if there is any? Of course, then there are gearboxes... is there a thread about this already somewhere, would like to read more.

Never had guessed I would get even near this excited about some clutch thing, can't imagine how excited our real propeller heads are.

Speaking of hockey, why is it that it seems no one outside the US or Canada cares for hockey, yet of the 90% NHL players that are not from the US, 45% are from European countries?

Yerr arrr yerr, hockey! Some do, but by the amount of people they are in the minority because most of the silly old central European countries with long sporting history are rubbish in it....and play foosball.

Quote from xaotik :I really can't see any difference between the behaviour of that UFR touching the wall in the video and doing the same in patch X... it's more of a scrape than a bump really and already, afaik, you can scrape to your heart's content without resulting to failed physics experiments.

Yes, exactly what I've been saying, but because I post so much rubbish nobody bothers to read my posts. I think people are seeing things they like to see.

Quote from axus :Sadly there was a show racing line translation string that someone mentioned somewhere in the thread.

But, there is also a "racing line display is not available" string, which could suggest it's a server side option for newbies and infants (Leo offline in the LFS babysitter edition). I sure hope so.

Quote from tristancliffe :No, clutch heat and clutch wear are different. So are engine damage and clutch damage. All we know is stalling (not damage, heat or wear) on the engines, and heat on the clutch (not wear or damage).

Just out of curiosity, would you think clutch wear is actually needed? I'm probably smart as left handed ape what it comes mechanics and stuff, but I can't help wondering if wear is needed.

Because, if the clutch starts to slip, it should stop working as it should because the heat itself. I could imagine that in LFS's short races (and the fact you get a fresh car every race) clutch wear could be rather irrelevant this point? Or does clutches wear down in real racing that much?

What astonishes me is the fact that nobody has made big fuzz about the fact that LFS and the FBMW are going to be featured on TV next year. I don't know what channel is that on, but it's still free air time for LFS!

Quote from Origamiboy :
Now, in Scawen's video, he mentioned that clutch wear and engine damage have been improved, and that sequential users will 'need to ease off the throttle in order to shift up', amongst other things.

There was no mention about engine damage or clutch wear, don't make up things, please.

It said gearbox and engine simulation was improved and that you can heat up your clutch and stall your engine.

Quote from Hallen :So what is South, East and West?

Good point, we don't have such Aston configurations, but it seems they go with different names there. So those basically are Historic and National. But because the Chicane route is just added there, I'd say we are going to have a new layout, I do hope it's not the last possible combination of existing corners we have, ie. Classic chicane -> SO long.

Quote from deggis :
ps. If that "ideal race line" is not some AI debug mode thing... then I wonder why it's added. I thought LFS was supposed get rid of this "arcade stuff" instead of getting more of it.

Well, I think it's a byproduct of the AI improvement, probably to visualize the track for Leo. I'd say it will be server side option online, at least judging from "racing line display is not available".

Oh, thanks.

Well, looks like we are having a new layout then.

I wouldn't go saying the collisions are fixed, it's a bit too far fetched to say from that video.

Of course, if Scawen has mentioned working on it?

Quote from Ondrejko :will be there new track in South City?

edit:
3g_cfg_clas Classic
3g_cfg_spr1 Sprint 1
3g_cfg_spr2 Sprint 2
3g_cfg_cilo City Long
3g_cfg_toco Town Course
3g_cfg_chro Chicane Route ... it seems like new South City track

So, where did you actually get that information then?

Quote from JTbo :After stricter test we could have stricter control over how people drive and that we can take from speed control as people would be more than capable of judging what is proper speed, also consequences could be lot worse, making license easy to loose.

Well I'm all ears to learn how is that controlling going to happen?

I take that shadow fix speculation back. In closer inspection it seems it still gets shown on the pit wall/roof when the blue XRG exits the box, shame really. But not a big one.

Quote from JTbo :Seriosly, nowdays license seem to be something everyone gets, but IMO it should not be like that, only those that really can drive and that means more than handle a car, should be allowed to have license.

But even if you had stricter tests you couldn't control how people drive. People who ignore the rules, drive the wrong way on roundabouts for example, are just ignoring the rules they might actually know. There is a difference between obeying the rules and knowing them.

But I can agree that there is some idiots on the roads. Dangerous overtaking is something that gets on my nerves, and during the 1½ year I've been driving I've seen rather much of it. Last time about week a go. It was dark, snowing, temperature around 0 and this van is stuck behind me long time. Was doing the limit on my own alright. Just as I was getting fed up with this van tailgating me way too close it starts to overtake me in a blind bend! And what do you know, there is a car coming the other way. He could have waited for 20 seconds, or used the last 900 meter straight! But instead he though it would be good to have a peek in a bend. Those are sort of idiots who get on my nerves, drive way too close and then overtake, or try to, in silly places when there is oncoming traffic. But what are you going to do? The police doesn't monitor such silly driving.

Quote from wien :That would be "narrow" , and yeah it does look that way. Could be the difference in angle though. The rounded curb should make it harder to take advantage of that area anyway, so it may not make much of a difference how wide it is.

More narrow or narrower just didn't sound right in my head, but I guess that's what it should be then.

If you compare it to the width of the curb, it seems roughly the same while the old one seems at least double the size.

Quote from troy :
if you look close its a lot of difference, found these comparison shots at the german lfs forum

Hard to tell the differences when the angles are so different. But is it just me or does the run-off seem less wider (word for the opposite of wide???) in the last picture?

Is this the dirt-in-windsreen we are talking about?

The "scrolling text" seems like a glitch with the windshield curving and reflection. And yes, that is the dirt, more visible in this picture http://www.lfs.net/page_images/pics/fbm_shot02.jpg

Don't think it actually the UFR hit the wall that hard. Could be they've made the wall smoother there.

edit.

Well, few that I spotted at first glance.

- BL pit traffic light and limit sign on the ground
- green stuff added next to the curbs in the new BL chicane
- dirt in the windscreen of the BMW (some sort of experiment with transparent surfaces?)
- a whole punch of new sponsor decals, rather irrelevant though I guess (at least Avon, OZ racing and Dell)

Quote from zeugnimod :But there's no exact date so I guess we will get a rather long thread waiting for it.

Yeah, if you meant if we are going to have a 51 page about it, sure, no problem. I though you meant the sort of teasing they did with the April patch back then and if we are going to have that, which was how the thread you pointed out started.
