Wish I'd found this thread a long time ago, I only got on board at WMD in April 2012 so I missed the first 6 months. PCars shows a lot of promise, the following is an extract from this article;

http://www.teamvvv.com/en/news ... ped-rival-to-Forza-and-GT

Both NFS Shift games were criticised by the simulation racing community for poor car handling and controls. What have you changed in the approach to CARS to improve in these areas?

So with the Shift titles we were obviously moving iteratively towards a more 'sim' style title. Shift 1 was the introduction of circuit racing to the previously illegal action/arcade titles from previous years. Shift 2 then introduced the 'Superman versions' of road cars with GT3, GT1 and other forms of real motorsport with Drift, Drag, Time Attack, and Endurance. Each step of the way we were also adding more depth to the physics, handling, controls, options, and general realism whilst still maintaining that core experience of 'what it really feels like out on the track'.

Compared to existing sim racing titles at the time though we still had a number of steps to go in terms of audience expectation on what they believed were key differentiators between the Shift titles and what they were used to and we appreciated those and have taken them on board wholeheartedly for Project CARS.

The steering wheel input lag issues [with Shift] for example were major, so we spent a good deal of time at the start of Project CARS making sure the new system was perfect and that it wouldn't be tainting the feel of any other developments we were planning for the physics system. The force feedback system was redesigned from the ground up too. It now allows us the freedom to adjust the input of all tire, suspension and G-forces to control the effect that the player feels at the steering wheel and is all exposed per-car to the player so it can be tuned to their equipment and personal liking. This has been a huge step up from the broader approach used on the Shift games where a limited and fixed set of inputs were used and the only control dial the player had was for overall strength.

We're also overhauling the tire model which is fully dynamic. The Seta Tire Model really is a generation beyond the steady-state models used in the past and it has forced us to step up our game in other areas as well, ensuring that every aspect of each car - aerodynamics, suspension and so on works up to the potential of the tire model. The perfect tire model is no good if those other parts aren't all working in concert. As a generalization, the design of the Shift games required a huge amount of time balancing a large field of varied cars with multiple upgrade paths. For Project CARS, we are spending that time researching the details of each and every car to get the driving characteristics as correct as possible.

With a year to go before release and seeing the progress so far, I'm in! This game could be the first ever multi platform sim if they achieve on their ambitious plans.

You can't please all the people all the time. New tracks, new cars, would be lovely. I'm just going to wait patiently, money in hand to purchase S3 when it arrives. I love this game. I've tried netkartpro, race07, refuse to remortgage to play iRacing. This isn't my life, I play this for fun when I have the time, usually with a bunch of "like minded" sensible racers.

It's fine as it is, when S3 comes it will be better. Patience is a long lost virtue.

Yes in UK we get the pleasure of expensive prices, and if we try to import huge taxes. Gotta love the global economy.

50's and 60's GT class cars, how about an E-Type
(sorry but I went to Silverstone Classic and Goodwood Revival this year highly recommended, revival was a bit weird 40 yr old bloke dressed as Penelope Pitstop, don't want to see that in S3 thanks )

...and how about some karts (I know there is MRT ) and some short circuits like to race them on.

Pretty please!

Quote from Rysho :Hiya Forum, Just picked up S2 and may I say what a game! is there anyone (besides me) that uses a dual-analoge controller and is there a reasonably afforable wheel setup?

Logitech Rumblepad for me, and I've been playing using it since I found LFS.

I have Logitech DFGT wheel, but nowhere to leave it out, so fetching it out and playing is a bit of a drag, so it actually slows me down. Need to invest in a games room

Quote from theirishnoob :hurray, generic comment because your topic is bullshit.

Well played good sir.

It wasn't a generic comment, the Irish economy is widely acknowledged to be screwed, and if logitech have regional sales targets, they may well choose to sell at a discount just to move product and retain market share until the economy recoveries. It was just meant to be a flippant comment.

My sincere apologies if you were offended by my "attempt" at humour. Admittedly, it's not the first time one of my "jokes"(!) met with the tumbleweed response.

Thanks dadge especially for calling me the lad, it made me forget about wrinkles and nostril hairs (the work of the devil!) for a moment, and bennyherber, sorry it didn't work for you. I'm proper gutted as I thought it would be useful.

Quote from bobpy2k :I managed to get my Driving Force GT for £85 from Argos, reserve and collect. That was a couple of weeks ago and according to their site, it was the only one in my area so Logitech might be the only place left to get them at a decent price.

Yeah Argos are still advertising them at that price but I couldn't find any stock anywhere, even checked near all my relatives on the postcode search. Anyhoo, UPS deliver on monday, so I'll leave it there. Sorry if the code doesn't work for you, but it honestly did for me.

Quote from theirishnoob :my logitech wheel cost me 98 euros ( about 80ish sterling ? ) new delivered...

with seasonal sales even less im sure ( bought it on short notice, totally regret it... g25/27 or fanatech is the only way to go but their a good wheel none the less )

Is that for a G27? Can't be, although they may realise that no-one in Ireland has any money as the economy is on it's ar5e and just wants to shift 'em?

That's it, I'm voting monster raving looney so we can crash the economy and get cheap stuff

Quote from Bose321 :Holy crap, that's still way too much...

That's why I bought the GT wheel instead although for a new G27 (if you must have one) it's hard to beat right now.

As a really expensive alternative I considered a Series 1 Porsche 944 for £850, stripping it out, roll cage etc and doing track days, but that would cost a small fortune in the divorce courts so a GT wheel gets my vote...

....for now

Forgot to mention that Logitech isn't the cheapest place to buy normally but with this voucher I couldn't find anywhere to match this price, same story on G27 which they have at £249.99, or £200 with the voucher code.

Hi Guys,
I've been shopping around for my first wheel, and ended up buying direct from Logitech using this voucher code from www.myvouchercodes.co.uk

One Driving Force GT wheel on it's way to me for £95.20 after the discount and not selecting express delivery. Only valid for a couple of weeks so use and abuse until then.

Here is the full blurb from the website, but visit the site and put logitech in the search to check it for yourself if you want.
Pasted from www.myvouchercodes.co.uk:
20% Off Items from the Gaming Category - To claim this discount all you need to do is add the code into the specified 'voucher redeem' area of the checkout and the voucher code will be applied upon completing your order from logitech.com - End Date: 16/05/2011

Then it goes on about how wonderful logitech is... ad nauseam

Anyway the code is : jat93itbh

when i view games servers airio is listed at 17432

game servers are 37429 and 37433.

should the con.1 and con.2 files have the server port numbers in not the airio one?

Edit: I got there thanks, someone used the airio port number as the insim port number which confused me, I thought they all had to look back at Airio, when they just had to match the server config port numbers. Thank you for your help.

I get there eventually, slow but persistent, just like my lap times lol.

It's a 500servers server, I did the /insim=17432 and it connected but airio is still not working in there.

For some reason it now connects from 1 server twice instead of from 2 servers. I think I've stuffed it up.

Airio log error. It should be connecting to port 17432 and I have checked all config files have correct insim port number. Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this please?

LFS where have you been all my life?

LFS discovered about a fortnight ago, demo downloaded, S2 licence bought within a matter of hours.

Why didn't I find this game years ago... Doesn't matter I'm happy now!

I have to set some time to one side to read the manual, and get the hang of set-ups, and racing rules, and car control, and training...

...sheesh, I'll never be good enough to go online, so much in this game I need to lie down.

I've been playing GTR2 for a while, but after sitting in front of a pc all day at work (which I'm not doing now boss, honest! ahem) find it difficult to sit down at one at night so not much progress (took me 3 months to finish a 24 hour race piece-meal lol).

My only issue being a drop-in kind of player is that without intending to you can upset the clan/team players quite easily. Some can just be downright rude to noobs (I understand I can get in the way of their race but it's not intentional and if they are that bothered why not make it a private server or put "no noobs!" in the description). That said, on a more empty server I came across a very helpful spanish racer who gave me some great tips, and on the quieter servers there is a chance at good race results, although the clock never lies does it!

I think I'll practice more offline and come back when the kids have left home (in about 15 yrs) so I can put the required time in to "fit in" with the regulars, unless someone can suggest a good server for drop-ins like me?

Anyway, enough waffle, counting down the hours until the kids go to bed to get back on LFS, and uninstall GTR2 of course.

To the developers: There are those of us who can only dream of a chance to race (over the hill/mortgage to pay etc). You have given us an affordable toy to at least pretend/practice, for that I am very grateful. Keep up the excellent work, and I will gladly part with more (but not too much!) cash. If I win the lottery I'm coming to find you guys and give you a cash injection to accelerate the development process. I've never fallen for a game so quickly and completely. Many many thanks for a superb game / alternate existence.
