We'll make sure the textures are the best they can possibly be before we release them. Then we'll do the other circuits too.
I know other people have made texture packs for LFS, but it's nice to give peple a choice and hopefully ours will be of such a quality many people will use them.
Who's to say an engine would be badly damaged after 20 laps of flat-shifting in real life? It depends on several things.. The gradual damage to the engine in LFS is there but i've ran 40 laps flat-shifting and the engine has been fine in an FXR. If it was damaged it wasn't noticible, laptimes were very consistent.
But if the dev's were to make the engine damage more substantial.. i get the feeling that would piss people right off.
The grass will be brightened somewhat, but will be kept fairly close to what it is now. Games tend to look unrealistic because of the brightness (high saturation levels) of their textures, making them look like something from a comic book.
In real life your eyes don't capture images with such high saturation, unless false (man-made) elements are added.. such as high-intensity light.
Don't worry, we'll work until we have the perfect product. You can rest assured on that.
Come on Electricwolf, play fair please.. i know i critisised your work but i meant it in the nicest possible way - constructively. I just think your version doesn't look realistic, im sorry i upset you. But i assure you the textures we use were not googled, we have spent a lot of time perfecting them in photoshop and trying to get them looking as realistic as possible.
Blackwood has 2 main types of tarmac, one defined as 'new' and one defined as 'old' - now obviously they pretty much speak for themselves.. the 'new' variety is recently laid fresh tarmac, while the 'old' is tarmac that has been there some time. I do not think our 'new' tarmac version looks comical, in my honest opinion it looks realistic.. and yes.. you guessed it.. new!
These are work in progress shots.. things will be changed, and we really appreciate all the comments you guys have shared with us. We're spending quite some time trying to improve the circuits for everyone's enjoyment, so please try to be patient!
More shots and progress reports coming very soon!
EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention a few other little things! The curbs are actually flat as pancakes around blackwood, so you cant really make them 3D just by using textures. So they look flat because.. well.. they actually are - thats down to the model. The grass will be tweaked and other stuff added like updated foliage such as bushes and long grass etc. Hope that clears things up!
Bear in mind these are work in progress shots and so may not represent the quality of the final release. Saying that.. we are very happy so far and hope to get this beauty out to you all very soon. You can then expect updates for Aston, Kyoto and South City.
Just checked the screenshots out.. not bad at all. But whats with the lines in the tarmac? Half of Blackwood has been resurfaced with NEW tarmac.. the warping looks unrealistic - it also looks like you've just taken textures from rF instead of create your own.
It wasn't me that started bitching though. I don't see why you couldn't have based your comments on something that wasn't stupid.
Anyway, im adult enough just to get on with what i want to do and leave this discussion behind. You're very welcome to an opinion, just don't insult people next time.
You really are an offensive git aren't you.. i don't know why im bothering but oh well. A lot of people aim for the same goal in their edit, and that is, to make it look good - either realistic or artistic. People are learning here, and those that aren't are showing their work and offering tips - yet you just seem to be moaning that all the pictures are the same and are poor quality.
You can say that as much as you like, but it isn't true. There are some brilliant edit's done by the guys here, some that really stand out from the rest. Ok, some edits arent amazing, but you have to give the guy who did it some respect for the effort he or she has made.
As for your edit.. i don't like it at all. I think it's pretty cheap and of very poor quality. Not nice is it, hearing those things?
Stop moaning and just face the fact 99% of the people editing pics here are probably better than you. I know you might be thinking im being harsh now, but there was really no need for you to start this in the first place - as Keiran said, you have an attitude problem.
Good post btw Keiran.. couldn't agree more.
As for everyone else.. KEEP EDITING THE WAY YOU WANT TO.. don't listen to this gimp
It's not a bad edit, but you're right not to be overjoyed with the blurring. The yellow LX is too blurred, it should be about the same as the green one. It's not the best screenshot in the world to edit, purely because it doesn't look realistic.
It's much harder to make something look real that just doesnt look right to start off with. Keep playing with it though.
What i normally do is apply the motion blur, then use the 'Smudge' tool very carefully to erase the unwanted blurred bits of the car.
This sounds simple but in practise it's pretty hard and should only be done if you are patient and a dab hand with your mouse. This way you don't have to change the size of the car (which is kinda silly) or do anything else untoward.
I'd be glad to help out with the edit, but try having a go yourself.. it's all about learning!
EDIT: lol, just noticed Matrixi posted the same technique i use above
Hi guys, thanks for the comments on my edits. They are pretty simple as i didn't put too much time into them, perhaps ill spend half an hour on the same pic later and see what i can come up with.
Thanks..
Simply by using the glare filter, taking the grain out and adjusting the intensity until it looked alright. I usually work with edits over several layers - duplicating the original image several times then doing a certain thing to each one and removing what i dont want to show the layer underneathe.
