Dave, you can get the driving force pro in the uk for £67 delivered. I haven't used the momo one, only the DFP, but I don't think I could go without the extra rotation now that I've tried it.
I've noticed something very interesting on some of the LFS servers. The guys who have "BLUE FLAG YIELD TO ME!!!" hotkeyed to one of the F keys, are the same guys who will ignore yellow flags and flame the shit outta people for crashing and not instantly shift-s'ing.
I yield to blue flags every time at the first sensible opportunity, but I also act sensibly when I see a yellow flag and it's gotten me out of a lot of trouble, especially on circuits like South City. I see the yellow flag coming up and I slow down only to see about 4 guys plough straight through expecting the crashee to shift-s instantly and it's carnage when they realise that theres a car in the middle of the chicane causing a 5 car pile up, leaving me to weave gently through the chaos and carry on.
I do agree that people should use shift-s sensibly and considerately though, but fellow racers should also heed the yellow warning flags too.
I thought you paid to drive the Nordshleife because it is a public access, one way, toll road. I dont know how it works in Germany, but in the UK, if a road is public then you can't charge people to drive on it.
I'm going to let memtest run when I go to sleep tonight, hopefully I can see if my ram is faulty using that. I also just noticed that I have been running without a paging file too, I turned paging file back on and it hasn't crashed since (fingers crossed) so it's a puzzler but at least it's only me who is experiencing it so I'll get to the bottom of it one way or another.
Go to Controls, click on Axis/FF then Invert the brake and throttle so they are at 1. also make sure that in the DFP control panel the "report pedals as combined" is unchecked.
Go online and spectate as often as you can and learn the braking points and how the drivers are using the gears to tackle tricky areas of each circuit, look at the brake and accelarator indicators on the bottom right of the screen to see how they are powering out of corners and how far you can trailbrake into corners.
You can also download world records and watch how they do it. It's a good way to suss out car/track combos.
I'll give prime a whirl mate as I have that installed. The strange thing is though is that LFS was rock solid for me before the recent update. Plus I have a lot of other games installed and none of them give me any hassle apart from Oblivion, but that seems to be crashing fpr a lot of people on their forums who have a broad spectrum of hardware configs.
I have WHQL 6.14 Catalyst drivers installed. I can run LFS on another backup HDD I have with a fresh XP install on it to see if it still crashes but to be honest I have just about every other sim installed on my machine and none of them give me crashes so I don't want to go formatting and reinstalling just yet, even though LFS and RBR is all I really play these days
Here's a new one. I wasn't actually driving when this happened, I was setting up a race against the AI when it booted me to deskto pwith this error.
(Ver. T2)
[edit] I also found this info relating to the last crash in the xp event viewer.
"Faulting application lfs.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x000122ba."
Another 12 crash errors in the viewer relate to this address
"Faulting application lfs.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module lfs.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00097adb."
I'll be having a good session later this evening Scawen, I'll collect as much info as I can when it crashes and post it in here.
One thing I have noticed about the skids (which has always happened since I started playing in October) Is that some skidmarks shoot right up into the sky after a while and you can see a big black line heading skywards, I'll get a screenshot of it in-game so you can see what I mean.
My machine is all stock, no oc's and I have adequate cooling and ventilation.
It's pretty random but it seems to be when I'm cornering as my DFP locks up too even after I have closed the crash error screen. I have to go into the DFP control panel (or go back into LFS) before it releases it's current position.
I've been getting this crash error since the S patch, I tried T and T2 and I'm still getting it. I tried running the Dr.Watson program in the background to get some information on the crash but it's not giving me anything. All I have is this screengrab of the crash address. LFS never ever ever crashed on me before so I doubt it's a heat issue or a hardware fault. This isn't a gripe, just an error report
It doesn't matter if the patch makes things easier, the good drivers will still be good drivers, the poor drivers will still be poor, the average drivers will still be average, and the aliens will still be aliens. It just means we can all have a lot more fun with the cars now pushing them right to the limit.
Maybe you've just become a better driver, and now the physics are a bit more in touch with reality you can actually drive the car at the limits of its capabilities. Before the patch you had to be really careful when cornering the RWD's especially exiting from an apex and applying the throttle, the car would just snap without warning. Now when your pushing too far the car lets you know and you can adjust accordingly.
If you watch this caterham video you'll see just how far you can push these things, imagine trying to do this in the LFS car park with the old physics
