Could you imagine everyone racing the same skin day in day out, it would get tired very quickly. As for the billboards being overdone, I actually quite like them as it gives the tracks more of a race feel to them, and no doubt people will release alternatives to the billboards soon, so it's not really that big of a deal. Plus, these adverts are paving the way for LFS to excel to even higher standards in the future. Now that LFS has an affiliation with BMW we could possibly see more official content like Circuits and more cars.
I wouldn't have a problem with every car having the option of Traction Control as long as servers admins have the ability to force it off if they wish.
Good on ya mate, I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the Sim. I was reading your website too mate and you're doing well with your sponsorship, you'll reach your goal in no time.
You should post up a thread about your website as this is a great community and I'm sure a lot of the members would appreciate what you are doing and be happy to help you hit your target.
This is a stunning update, the cars feel a lot realer now. When you're pushing it to the limits you can feel the wheel tense up like the tyres are really getting bent then if you push it too far it snaps away, whereas before the patch, it just snapped away without any warning from the tyres.
What pissed me off quite a bit was the Guys at AutoSS Magazine were blowing sunshine up this sims ass, only to find upon release that it's an alpha with its main selling point (Online racing) knackered.
When I'm driving the cars in nKp they actually feel quite good, it's just the whole interface and mulitplayer element is so offputting that I just think, sod this. The sound is a bit hit and miss, I can see what he's trying to do and it works to an extent. I got the same reaction to the sound in LFS at first but it grew on me and is actually quite functional.
The sim has potential and the best thing Kunos could do right now is release the Dev kit for free and let people actually get this sim up to a decent level. I know a lot of people are opposed to user made tracks and cars a la rFactor but I don't really see 4 cars and 4 tracks (The 4 tracks actually justy feel like a variation of 1 to me) holding peoples attention for long, especially when the sim is in the state it's in.
As it stands the sim doesn' thave enough gravity to draw me towards it let alone away from LFS and GTL. I'll give it another go once it's been patched as it just feels half assed at the moment.
I find most servers welcome drivers of all abilities. The only time when I see people becoming irritated is when somebody clearly doesn't know the track and car combo. I find that it's always a good idea to spectate on the top few drivers for a lap or 3 and see who's driving the car you will be driving, look at their braking points and gear changes and their line, then join in and just take it easy. As long as you're not all over the place and yield sensibly to blue flags you'll be fine.
I love open wheelers and I've pre-ordered nKp so it's gonna be a good month for me regardless. I'll still play LFS no matter what but I will be devoting most of my driving time to nKp upon it's release to get to grips with the system and physics.
The thing with LFS though is that the Multiplayer aspect is just so solid so you can easily overlook the small(ish) flaws in aero and tyres etc.. It doesn't matter what time zone you're in you can always find a decent server to race in and that alone is enough to keep anybody hooked. I dunno what it is but I prefer playing online, even if it's just fannying about with setups and hotlaps, the feeling of having people around you is much better than AI. nKp has it's work cut out for it if it wants to be even half as online friendly as LFS but I think theres definately room for both as LFS seems to be the only decent online racer for public pick up and play races.
If anyone has played nkpro and has seen the difference then please step forward and enlighten us, otherwise, pull up a chair and wait until the 10th april to commment.
Certainly if Sony has publicised the fact that savings will be there for users who take advantage of their online delivery service then they go back on their word people just won't use it. Not to mention the fact that Sony has felt the sharp end of the stick recently with the whole root kit business, they know that you can't piss people off these days and expect them to lie down and take it like a good doggy.
As for games taking 3-4-however many years, that was par for the course 3 years ago, development teams are getting bigger, the gaming industry is getting bigger and things happen a lot faster now as a result.
£210 for the core and £280 for the premium, Microsoft are selling them at heavy loss though, but they make up for it through accessories and games though.
Dont believe everything you read in the newspaper, there's no way that games will retail at $150, it's just not gonna happen. Sony are talking about a software delivery system akin to Valve softwares steam application, which will allow you to download games directly to your hard drive and cut costs significantly.
I can believe that the console may cost in the region of $700 purely because of the totally unneccessary blu-ray drive. As for it being completely HD, anything that can display a resolution of 1280x720 or above can be classed as HD. Games taking 3 years to develop, again, more hype, you can't put a time scale like that on a project like making a game, it's like saying every movie takes 3 years to make. Unless you're saying it actually takes 3 years to make a game disk in which case that must be one hell of a slow blu-ray burner they got
As much as I would like to see all these new tracks and cars, I'd much rather LFS remained closed to modding at the present moment. I think that modding can fragment a community, just look at rFactor for an example. I'm not bashing rF here as I actually enjoy driving some of the mods, but it's difficult to get a decent game online because everybody is playing different mods with different tracks and you need to have the right files or it ends up a lesson in frustration.
