Slowly moving up to faster cars is a good idea....

That being said, there still is a problem with the cars spinning for no reason. From a stand-still the cars don't react realistically. They should squirm around, but if you have a LSD the car's not going to get away from you so fast. They really shoot around. My real life car reacted like this when one of my struts went out and the rear suspension was horribly unbalanced. Now that it's repaired, I can spin the wheels in a straight line at high RPMs easily with very little steering or throttle input. This is impossible in LFS, which confuses me. Everything else is so spot on, why isn't this?

If you've watched F1 races they get their cars to squirm around, but they can also get them to spin the wheels in a straight line.

Heh, I guess I'm lucky. My framerate drops from 90FPS to 30FPS, so I'm fine in that respect. How do you play back slower? and how do you make a custom "TV" style camera that you can control if it's even possible?

About the lock up sound:

I don't know about locking up the tires, but when I spin my tires (do a burnout or whatever) I rarely hear them. I think it has to do with the compound. I've noticed that harder compound tires make less noise when they slide. I've watched people drift with various tire types and some make barely any sound, while others scream any time they're broken loose. The road surface also has something to do with how much noise they make. I got really gave my car some gas in second gear and the only sound I got was the engine revs shooting up, no tire sqeal. *shrug*

Police pursuits were a relatively popular thing in S1, just as something to break the tension and have some fun. As far as making it an actual mode, that's a little much, but why shouldn't the devs allow for a free roam ability? If it's a programming issue, then I'll understand, but if it's a "this is a sim" issue, then that's just stupid and ignorant. I agree it's a sim first and a game second, but it still is a game, and if people are going to have little police chases anyway, why not make it a little easier for them to have fun.

I also very much want to see point to point touge racing. It would offer a very different experience and off the drifters an actual course to drift. as opposed to the race tracks that only really offer very high speed drifting.

The problem I see most of the time is that:
1) many computers can't handle so many cars on the screen at once and therefore get "frame lag" meaning that they are still connected to the server and have good ping, but their framerate goes down so much that they get lag.

2)Many people don't understand downforce and it's affects on braking in particular. When there is a hug pack of cars all going into a corner at the same relative time, the people at the back have to break earlier because they have less downforce and therefore less grip. What I usually see is someone drafting off another car and then they both brake normally and the person behind locks up their wheels and slides into the person in front or tries to swerve to avoid a collision and slides into some else. So then you restart and someone either makes the same mistake or someone else makes the mistake and everyone is screwed again.

The problem I have with this is that often the first 4 or 5 cars make it out unscathed and therefore refuse to restart, which is horribly selfish. I always vote to restart even if I end up way ahead in first because of a huge wreck, as long as enough people want a restart. I'm totally for smaller voting percentages, because we'll often get more than half the vote but we need 3/4 or something and it never passes.

In short, I think the voting should be changed, but much thought should be put into how to do it fairly.
