i found out what was causing all my lockups. my videocard was defective. i did an RMA with evga and the replacement was even worse! then I got a third one from them and it crashed once, then i reinstalled video drivers again and all is well.
um... yea i meant LFS. All I meant was every time you use Shift+P it should take longer before you are allowed to leave the pits. First time 5 seconds, then 10, then 20, etc. If you want to avoid this penalty, drive to the pits yourself and pit manually (plus you dont lose your laps if you pit manually vs shift+p). I think people would drive more responsibly with a penalty on Shift+P.
Instead of shift+P sending you instantly to the pits there should be a countdown while you wait for a "tow truck." And the time gets longer each time you use it. If you dont want to wait then drive to the pits yourself and get repairs.
My steering never felt quite right, and when my car would start to slide I would try to correct but always over-corrected and something didn't seem quite right. I went and turned "Wheel turn compensation" from 1 to 0 and now my steering is perfect. It's linear and I can make small corrections and I am shaving seconds off of all my lap times.
i dont get it... last week i set up my server and some people connected. but i have been running the server on and off for the last week and everyone who tries to connect all it says on the server is "new guest timed out"
the name of the server is Tampa Bay Rush Hour if u want to see if u can connect
i havent seen the F-1 footage (just those pics) but i think F1 is a really bad comparison because those cars are optimized to the point that there is really only one clear line. if you go off that line you are toast. thats why no one passes, everyone is set at the limit by a computer. screw modern F1. We need to go back to cars like this:
Actually I think the opposite. Some old lady who left foot brakes (i have seen tons of these people in Florida going 60 mph with their brake lights strobing on and off) is more likely to plow through the local Dunkin Donuts storefront.
I cannot see the video, but why are you going to fast into turn 1 that you cannot slow down? If you are in the back and you hit someone in turn on then it is your fault. You know turn one is coming up, you know you are at the beginnign of the race on cold tires, you know there are slower cars in front of you, why are you in a mad dash to fill every open space in turn one?????? The point is to finish the race above all else.
Does anyone still right-foot brake? I cannot stand using my left foot to brake but I'm guessing that I'm a bit slower as a result. I have only used logitech wheels, (LWFF, Force, DFP) and I cant imagine braking with my left foot.
I am in USA so it might be different but I just called up customer support and told them the problem I had, then they asked for a fax of the sales invoice and gave me RMA number. I did whatever they asked and a few days later there was a brand new DFP at my door.
I and several others are getting the same (or similar) crash. We posted in the Technical Assistance forum under the thread "game freezes"
DEVS, is there anything I can do on my computer that will log the crash or anything else that would help you pinpoint this? I know this is a tricky one to fix just going off descriptions, but I will sum up again:
The lock-up happens most often for me online. More than half the time it happens when I am in an accident or hit a kerb, so thats what made me first think it was sound-related. What will happen is the game freezes, and the last playing sound will loop. It stays locked for about 10-20 seconds, then i get dropped out of the server to some LFS screen (i dont remember which one) and I get a message about lost connection to host.
I can rejoin the server but it usually locks up again.
EDIT: I almost forgot, very rarely when I get the online crash, sometimes I dont get disconnected from the server. Sometimes it will just unlock itself, BUT, then a portion of my car graphics will be messed up. For example one time it locked up for 10 seconds, unlocked, but then my car had some grey polygons sticking out of it (viewable from inside and outside). That has happened two or three times, with the random grey polygons sticking out of a part of the car.
Now the weird part, and it may be the same lock up or a different one. When I am offline, I sometimes get a lockup (but it is more rare). In that case, it never unlocks, and I get a bluescreen. The bluescreen talks about the file nv4disp.sys (i think). Now, I have gotten this same lockup and crash in Oblivion (and someone else reported that they also get this lockup in both games).
My system is not overlocked or anything like that and works flawlessly in all other games and apps.
Athlon X2 3800
ASUS A8NE (Nforce4 Ultra chipset)
2 gig ram dual channel
EVGA 7800GT (i tried a bunch of AA and AF settings, and turned off write combining - none of these changes helped)
Creative X-Fi xtrememusic
DEVS please let me know how else I can help, I really want to get this resolved!
I have a DFP pro so I use the D-pad on the wheel to look left and right.
Well I was just driving to Chick-Fil-A for lunch and stopped at a red light. There was a car to my left, AND I HIT MY STEERING WHEEL WHERE THE LOOK LEFT BUTTON WOULD BE. Yikes.
HELP. I suck with the MRT. I can manage any other car, even the LX6, but that damn MRT kills me. Every once in a while I will find a setup that will let me get a hold of it, but I havent looked for one lately. Other than a setup, I just want some tips in general. Basically, what setting in the setup make it easier to handle, and what driving techniques should you use in the MRT? In general I just find that once the weight shifts the wrong way, its all over and my car will become a flaming piece of wreckage on the side of the road. So please dump all your MRT knowledge on me!
