Quote from Shotglass :looks like it could use a better regulation

A motion platform could always be better - it will never create another reality.
Helpfull suggestions and ways for improvement are always welcome

Zwei Deutsche auf englisch... amüsant.

"We" is 1 best friend of me, that has spent quite a lot of
time with me on this, 1 other good friend who wrote the
interface and me, that paid the bills and did most of the design.
I made the position measuring tubes myself. I figured that
a real DIY sim shouldnt have a 600 Euro per axis HF inductive
measuring system (well my wallet figured this out).
So its 50 reeds in parallel to avoid wear. They are really
fast (less than 1/1000th second) and stand more than
20 million cycles. An A/D USB Interface is used to measure
and switch the hydraulic valves at the same time.
Thats why position is measured in 1/10th Volt steps.
If i had more money i would throw in some proportional valves.
But i stopped putting more money in this at the moment.

The frame is 40x40 and 40x60 steel tube and rock solid.
I cannot say too much about the future of the project at the
moment. But it could be TUEV Bauart-certified with only small
modifications.

@Vain

Yes, we wrote a protocoll during interface testing about
3 months ago. (and i even found it again!)
The inertia isn't that big. Both axis are pretty well balanced.
We have a weight of approx. 60kg + driver that is only
rotational accelerated. The hydraulics produce a force of
about 200dN (40mm @ 16bar) per axis and have a lever
at least twice the distance of the COG from the CORotation.

It does really shake well, in fact the motion base moves quite
a bit when in use.

I attached a graph of the lag. Even though its from an early
version that wasnt calculated correctly, it still shows the
lag sufficient enough. The calculated lag only displays the
voltage difference of the measuring tubes, not the time
of the lag.
Interestingly the lag gets smaller at the end of the test.
I have no idea why. Visually i'd say average is a bit more than
1/10th second lag at the beginning and sometimes far less than half.

Over all i am pretty pleased with the speed.
(100 of the horizontal scale is 1 second)
I never saw any manufacturer of commercial sims reveal any
data like this. And i am sure, there is hardly any faster one
out there even above $100000. (gee, all that braggin' illepall)

Hope that doesnt feed your envy too much.

Is it done?
No, its just an update to the first post.

Is it supposed to move like this?
Yes it is! Thats the concept.
It simulates the sideforces as well as the accelleration
forces (positive and negative). 2DOF
Whats missing right now are bass shakers (need only to be
mounted) and the speakers behind the head.

Is it hard to drive, when the room around you moves?
Thats the concept of motion sims: you should be disconnected from
the static object "world". In our case we are considering
- a cover to focus on the screen (which is not the final one)
- 3d glasses (Z800)
Later one has our favour a.t.m. especially in combination
with TrackIR.
The only thing every sim lacks is prediction power, so there is
a delay of a tenth or hundredth fraction of a second.
Also, motorsport can generate very strong shifts in acceleration,
for a flight sim it is much easier and more perfect.

If you dont believe a motion sim is fun:
You are right. I have my fun meanwhile.

Hurts me too, when i see him spin like this.
But its a heck of fun to see him try.

On the other hand - its fun spinning loops
with 490PS RWD !

@ gleetk

Ya better put your flamethrower away, until you come up with something to prove your silly insults. For now you just make yourself look stupid.
If you talk about the acesim - forget it, its way different.

@ the rest

All right, i'l put some more stuff online soon. But please consider, i am not working full time on this. I have two little children too...

I post whenever i have time to take a picture or a video.
Expect more in a couple days.

Attached are some abandoned designs.

more infos will follow... later.

Becky, i can give you rough draft like this:

Minimum 5000 Euro, professional prototyping tools,
a good programmer at hand (erhm, forget this for you...)
and the will to learn a lot and spend more!
otherwise it will just be very disappointing and frustrating.

it took us more than 3 months to get the center of
rotation above the belly, but keep the mechanics
completely underneath - to avoid parasitic forces.
(motion sickness)

yes, completely self designed from ground up,
2 bhp (1,98 PS) hydraulic actuation, self programmed...
Uses single Houshold outlet 220V / 9A

Roll +/- 20°
Pitch +/- 25°
Drivers weight 130kg+

No static display!
High center of rotation - No parasitic forces!

Programming wasnt that hard as LFS does more than
half the work.

cost: less than FD 301.

Geee - sounds like an advertising, but i dont sell....

My C220 went 240 km/h and its not that great of a sensation.
Just like 180 plus a third more. Its ok.

I just feel a little like on ice in LFS.
Its hard to get a feeling for speed if there is no force acting on you.
Especially in turns. A FFB wheel helps.

+1 kazillion for drive train and gear box / shift sound.
+1 for flying cars syndrom.

first on track physics, then offtrack physics.
and then if all this is done ambient physics.
its like asking for animated pit crews.
plz add swf or avi

who cares about bmp - but i would care about some movie format.
like swf or avi. might be hard to put it all in a limited file size.
but ppl converting movies to put em online could fit essential scenes
in a low res under 1 mb.

especially the new flash movie codec is incredibly good.
i'd love to see swf's as attachment.

Sepia coloured screen - solved thx

Hello,

did anybody encounter this before?

I have S2 installed on a tower and my laptop for the times being away.
After unlocking it on my laptop with the same key as on the tower, the
whole program is only sepia coloured. Is it related to my second unlock?
(though i believe it did work for a while after the second unlock)

Its odd, cause shift+f4 brings a sepia window on a normal desktop.

Any ideas?

Thx

A sonic transducer is indeed a subwoofer speaker without any membrane plus more weight on the coil - in addition to a low freq splitter and low freq amp.

You mount it under your chair or whatever and then call it "Butt Kicker" for a reason! AKA Base Shaker.
Sonic Transducer

Hi, havent found anything about tansducer in the forum, though i'm prolly not the only doin' this.

Dear Scavier's: Is it possible to throw in some more low freq noise for gravel, grass and curbs? Around 20Hz?

My sonic transducer goes crazy on idle revs but does nothing on curbs or going off track. I suppose this could be a very simple add on.

Many thanx in advance!
