Just a slight OT: When I press CRTL + SHIFT my keyboard config changes to Latin 1.. it sais "Keyboard: Latin 1" in the message display. What I can't figure out is how to go back to my Central European layout again. Any insight? Thnx.

Quote from sinbad :IDUI: The idea is to use 100% of the cornering ability from the moment you turn the wheel. Which is why you should still be slowing the car as you begin to apply steering and accelerating the car from the moment you begin to straighten the wheel. So there will be a cross over between the two, an obvious example would be a long fixed radius corner where you have to maintain a constant speed with a trailing throttle (revs not going up or down).

Yes, that makes sence since the tires would slow the car if left without any kind of throtle. Perhaps in a slow, sharp corner actually "rolling" for an instant is beneficial as that braking effect, the steering gives, could be part of trail-braking. Until the undwind that is. Things are getting clearer.

I recommend you to read this. It's an excerpt out of a great book. You will find that the "friction circle," also called "traction circle," explains trail braking much better. From my personal experience and reading I believe that trail braking is necessary in order to get the most out of any cars cornering capabilities. But I'm no WR holder! Well .. yet I hope.

Sligtly OT: One thing I don't understand is that there's talk of 100% braking and acceleration and then the mix of the two with steering at some points of the corner. Is there not a point where you use 100% steering/cornering? Neither braking nor using throtle just cornering at 100%?

You guys do this with your DFP's?:

My wheel makes immense amounts of noise if I turn it a fraction of the speed those guys turn their wheels at. And it doesn't recover the way a real wheel does. Intersting. If your wheels are holding up then they're much tougher built then I thought.

Fern Bay Gold with RB4 was my choice when I moved away from demo servers. You could go at it with FXO or perhaps LX4(with very low tire pressure it's amazingly easy to handle). The atmosphere is great, especially if you have upgraded to the high quality textures provided somewhere on the forum. The fast corners of the gold track may be a bit intimidating at first, but are a blast once you understand them(just need to get close to the inside:tilt.

Or if you're looking for a complete change of pace give the XFG a run at Westhill. Even a Blackwood setup may be sufficient with minor modification in case you can't find a descent setup.

Use a normal wheeless chair, a kitchen chair for example. If it needs hight just put it on something. A few layers of carpet or maybe "flat folded" moving boxes.

Quote from Gentlefoot :Just set the fuel to a % below that which you will have when you make your stop. That way you don't waste time fuelling.

Thank you for the tip.

I would enjoy mandatory pitstops more if there were options to tell my "pit crew" not to fix any damage and to not fuel up at all. The way it is right now fueling up when I definately don't need it and fixing the damage that I know has no effect on the performance of the car at all feels illepall. Now in longer races fuel may be a factor, I will find out some day.

Well there're plenty of teams around. Those that come to mind as mostly, demo, XFG oriented is Repsol and Apexi. Fusion(site down?) team was also there for a while, but I believe they have moved on to S2. I recommend not to limit yourself to just those teams, look into others, there's a teams section in the forum. You will eventually move on S2 as well. Resistance is futile!

Perhaps some sort of drawer system; to have folders for each track(maybe with a possibility to create even more such folders). So where we have the setup names we have track names that when clicked on lead to a new page where you have sets for that track, or changes that track- selction list into a set- lection list. Would that work? These could be created in LFS/data derectory also? And in order to sort the "what did I think of this set last time" issue perhaps just a notes option, in addition to the sugested "highlights" or some other labeling system.

Of topic: Just an idea for skins: is it possible to have the "chose skins page" be replased with a drop down menue right there on "garage page"? That way one can look at the skin selection live while switching from skin to skin?

I think Scawen will look into such solutions later on. That would surelly lead to optimal/logical solutions to all of todays "bugs". But it's always fun to throw out ideas.

I've seen new drivers act better then most experiensed ones and some really good drivers wreck on purpose. It is the effort that counts if a racer choses to race clean he will be clean no matter the skill. This you cannot teach. It can be forced, but that is just too much work.

I personlay don't agree with the purposed idea of having to do a driving test in order to join online. As said earlier, experiensed/good drivers would die of borredome.

Instead, why not have some servers(in addition to what we have today) that recquire one to register online, at liveforspeed.net. This way only those who chose to expend the effort of going through the registration can do, and one is recquired to answer an email confirmation to complete the registration, right?(Don't recallexactly, if not then there is a weakness in my idea)

This way, banning is done to the registered name, lappers have one name in them for each user, and getting a new username is much more pain then to just change your nick and/or change ip.

Sure there will still be new players who join those servers, but not as many and surelly more managable by admins.

In order not to interupt this 'profound "n00b" indentification how to' go ahead and answer in this thread instead, or here, I don't care. Just don't want to hijack this thread.
I bring this up in this thread in hopes for more people to see the idea. So that the idea can be buchered. I don't see anything bad with it, perhaps it's not possible to implement. Developers probably know.

Edit: Yes, fo cource I missunderstand the thread... you're not talking about demo servers. Oopsie. Sorry for me ignorance. =) Well... apply my idea to demo. As for licensed servers: how can you measure the effort a racer will put to keeping clean? Joining clans/teams? I always thought that just having a permament licensed name is enough. But I hang around in the demo serves too much to know for sure.

Yes, that is why having a trial time on the demo would hurt those, few, who race clean and are satisfied with the demo car/track combos.

I may have read the thread too fast, but I still don't see any reasons against having the demo as it is today plus the addition of demo servers that recquire players to have registered on the site, like one would have to for S1/S2(except no pay). These servers would be more managble and accesable to those who don't mind the registration prosses for the sake of a more admin managable environment.

...I know- I can't spell.

Quote from bobvanvliet :I think this would be a good idea.

There is however, also something to be said for simple, immediate and unregistered access to online play... Maybe a Demo registration could be an option and servers could be set up to allow all people or just registered ones.

Don't think anyone commented on this(got sidetracked). Sounds like a good idea, if possible. The servers with registered users only would have an easier time keeping the lapper clean. No need for 24 hour stuff. Just registering requires an email-- getting new mail addresses may be pain enough. Right?

What makes this a great sim is the physics. I'm sure the developers will look into issues like prewarmed tires closer to complition of the project. For now all we can do is enjoy what we have. Then again, if noone would ever complain some ideas, perhaps, would never exist.

Besides, it's fun to warm up the XFG.

So where is the problem? Everyone can do it the way he likes. In the end there is only ONE rule that counts: HLVC.
Hotlapping is all about ONE lap. I dont care how the lap is started, i even would say respect to people that have some creative lines and techiques. Just watch, learn and improve

If I happened to be in a "hotlapping" situation in real life I'm pretty certain there would be nothing stopping me from driving backwards or doing burnouts or whatever.
I dunno, I don't feel that strongly either way but find some of these discussions about what is and isn't realistic in a computer game a bit strange.

What they said.

And, can't you switch to mouse to warm up tires/swirve and then switch back to wheel for the actual laping?
