Quote from Becky Rose :A recommendation from a friend on a forum which has long since faded away, the forum was a small community of skilled programmers - a sort of hackers bar if you like. It was meant to contain the best programmers on the indi scene at the time but died a death for two reasons:

Firstly, few people in that community needed help so the forums were quiet.

Secondly, games like LFS blew the little sim I had been working on out of the water - and I figured i'd give up writing games and go back to playing them.

I am now writing games again, i'm just not bothering to do a racing sim :P

Do a racing sim!!!

Vodacom customer care is a joke.

You tell me, I spoke to them yesterday and the guy tells methat my area is not 3G covered. I tell him bull. When I was playing LFS with 15cars on track with almost no lag and was watching youtube vids like mad, I wasdraining my 2gb cap like nothing and I had to govern myself from running out ofcap half way thru the month, I am pretty sure that was not GPRS, now sinceNovember I am sitting with 1,5gb at the end of the month, any way, so heinstructs me to uninstall device and re-install and set it up for GPRS only, well then it did not work at all, and he tells me to take it to a repaircentre! Any way, re-installed it on my own and its working slow again. At leastI can go online from 1am!!!

During the day, the only way to check my mail, is to takethe tab and drive out to the tower, check mail and go back home, lol

Quote from Pablo Donoso :I'd say download the replay of the WR's and study them as much as possible, it will tell you where the car should be and how fast it should be going. It helped me a lot on KY oval by giving me an idea of how fast the car needed to go.

Yes, have done that aswell, also spent hours with hot lap analyser, I will take both cars to 400 laps on blackwood, and then im chaning over to XRT, RB4, FXO and I will do 400 in each of them, what ever my best lap is, that it will be! lol

Quote from Pablo Donoso :lol you know all it takes is practice to get faster lap times. The right car setups also do help but the fastest sets only go so far. It all comes down to your driving style and how you drive the car.

- In circuit racing and depending on the track, you'll have to have a decent set and smooth steering input.

- In drifting, all you need is a set that is stable while drifting at an angle that doesn't require any steering input to maintain drifting, and would also correct itself once you counter-steered. That's my preference at least.

If you need setups though, check out Setupgrid.net as they have some good sets to work with.

I run a setup for both XFG and XRG for Blackwood GP that I found on setupgrid, best time in XFG just under 3sec of WR and XRG just over 3sec of WR, done 330 laps with each car and the laps is not getting faster!

Quote from Jettascuba :Hi Jaco

I am probably running the same system as you are, mostly a 7.2mps Vodacom USBdongle, laterly 8ta (just because something seriously wrong with vodacom 3Ghere in Somerset-West at he moment). We are probably utilising the same vodacomserver in cape town.

Also on windows 7 64 bit.

Best advice I can give you, remove all anti-virus, firewalls etc software.See how it goes.

What mobile service are you using? Vodacom sucks atm.

- Gerrit

Hi Gerrit

I am actually just around the corner from you; I stay in Gordon'sbay.

I pick up my signal from Little foot farm, If you can remember,a few weeks back we had a few days of hectic wind, especially here in GB, well,my problem started the same time more or less, but I'm not sure if its my pc or isp

Yes, I am also using Vodacom, and like I said, it was good, but it's bad now.

I had someone over this afternoon also with a vodacom stickand a laptop and the speeds was more or less the same as I get here now a days

A friend of mine claims that the get 4.x mbps with 8ta in Kuilsriver and a friend of his 1MBps in town!

I am only 4 months into my 2 year contract so there's no turning around if it is vodacom. Hope I can get this resolved

Quote from Squelch :This sounds familiar, and I was asked to look a afriends PC for the same reasons. What transpired was that the antimalware/cleaning applications that were used to cure the original problem, leftresident portions of themselves to prevent further infections. The problem hereis that they tend to intercept all web traffic and disk access to preventdamage. Unless you have an uber machine, this will actually slow things down, and even more so if there are several different applications trying to do thesame thing at the same time.

If you are confident that you are now clean. Remove/uninstall the cleaningproducts. Windows defender is pretty good and should help prevent furtherinfections, and also appears to be non invasive. A good antivirus tool is worthresearching, and will probably be less intrusive too.

Yes, I have removed the anti Malware, Netlimiter and some other stuff I downloaded completely from my system. I start to get the feeling that its the ISP, only thing I can do is call them tomorrow and find out if there is a problem, but with the service levels around here I won't hold my breath!

Quote from Pablo Donoso :lol man I would buy you an S2 license just for having to deal with some S2 users bullying ya, I went through that as well as a demo driver and it's not very pleasant. It really only comes from a few users like that but not all S2 drivers are that way.

Well, I sure hope you keep promises!
Quote from Pablo Donoso :
Just the fact that you challenged him and were ready to back up your words while he was the one that couldn't backup his words and then left is all that matters as it shows who was better without even having to get in the car.

lol, well it turns out I suck at circuit racing, look at mytimes and to top it all of I suck even harder at drifting, so which ever way itwould have gone, he would've probably kick my .......

I dont know where to post this, but please help I need some serious help please

I use a mobile broadband connection

a while ago, I started playing LFS online and all wasworking well, it ran an average of 1mbps, yes its slow but lag was ok and Ididnt get kick of servers for lagging......but, in the background something waseating my bandwidth, I had a struggle for a while, turn off every updater Icould find on my pc nothing helped, as soon as I go online I could see itseating away, about 250MB per hour.

I eventually ran the anti malware software and discovered myPC is very very very sick, removed all the threats and my bandwidth eatingproblem went away

....but, then a new problem started, my internet is now soslow, it's not worth it anymore, I get kicked of servers everywhere forlagging. It runs average 20 - 30kbps sometimes even under 1kbps!!

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I struggle to openwebsites, anytime day or night, downloading mails is a nightmare and worst ofall, I can barely play LFS!

I run windows7 ultimate 64bit

I use a 7.2mbps USB modem/dongle or what ever they callthis. The above speeds are all at 3G or HSPA according to the modem dashboard.

Please help me!!!

Quote from Huru-aito :I've started with OutRun, Grand Prix Circuit & Test Drive on C64. Back in the day I was spending my evenings racing Viper Racing (with and without VRGT mods :revs online with some guys from Muropaketti (MuroViper). IIRC someone posted the link to LFS on our IRC channel and I downloaded 0.04k I believe it was and enjoyed it. It's all been downhill since.

Piirakka, ZT & co, I hope you're still alive and kicking

I still have Viper racing, played it just the other day......but, its not same as I remember from back then

The guy I bought my G25 from gave me a copy, it is just a pity that I only recently discovered how much fun online is, I have done so many laps offline.

PS, I think LFS should come with a warning label
Something like

Warning
Live for speed will ruin every other racing game you played on any platform

And that is true, I have played Forza 4 on xbox the last couple of moths, fired up LFS a few weeks ago, go back to Forza and its like WTF is this sh...........

Quote from masternick :its useless because it doesn't score you on so many things that make a good drift

it can't tell the difference between someone taking a good line or a bad line, it ignores transitions, proximity to other cars and walls/clipping points (the line), etc and just judges there speed and angle

You are right, I did not even consider this.....but at least it beats just blasting around the track fish tailing
jaco1981

Yes, drift score is useless in LFS, because you don't earn anything, but then again, nothing you do in LFS earn you anything, there's no credits to buy cars or upgrades ect ect.
The reason I like the drift score, is that I can gauge myself, I run a few laps doing what I have always done, take an average of drift score, then try something else, different breaking points, more steer, less steer, more throttle, and check my average again, then I go and try something else and compare scores again. So now I can see what style works better for me, because self gauging is a massive fail.
