Most of the news I watch (I don't "watch" TV, haven't in years, but catch a little at work) sounds like something from a film - news reports specifically.

Quote from Boris Lozac :I know, but it's like they WANT us to create conspiracy theories.. maybe that suits them. Both scenarios sound too 'hollywood' to me, just as in 9/11 events themselves, there's just sooo much fishy stuff around it, but then you wonder in what world are we living at when there are people that organise stuff like that (like 9/11 beeing an inside job), what kind of creatures are they.. how are they sleeping at night... everything's just so messed up.

Does it really matter? His death means very little, and they are hardly going to announce they performed a black ops mission in Pakistan and successfully shot an innocent civilian.

Pearcy, I think your taking this far too seriously.

The "recent" threats of terror have been overplayed by governments to control the population - the damage done (in the UK at least) by the IRA was much much worse, but people just got on with their lives. And the government certainly never tried to use it as an excuse to pass all these bullshit laws...

Getting hammered with your mates is ****ing fun. If you've never tried it then thats probably why you don't get it.

Many people also find alcohol helps them relax (after a hard day at work, I have to admit a nice bottle of ale is a lovely way to start the night), or to socialise better (...100% guilty...), or just to break out of their "normal" life.

Sometimes we overdo it and do something stupid (and as a result my girlfriends family have seen far more of my naked body than i'd like) but part of being young *is* doing stupid things - annoyingly they happen to be the most fun!

I probably could find something better, and I could afford it - but I don't want to spend £500 on an i5 for the basic stuff I use it for.

Quote from Jakg :(and the first person to suggest a 15.6" laptop with a 3 hour battery life deserves a banhammer...)

Quote from TiJay :http://www.medion.com/gb/elect ... s&utm_term=30011839A1

Bargain. Probably what I'd buy to replace my 3 year old Dell XPS. Battery life is probably around 3hr, but buy another battery!

Too big

Too expensive

Too shorter battery life

Just... no.

Quote from Shotglass :wouldnt it be easier to buy a second power brick thats always in your notebook bag then?

Yes. But I change laptops very often (previously every 9 months, this one I wont even of had for 6 months) so getting new chargers is a pain, plus its still a pain having to find somewhere to charge it up in Uni.
Quote from DeadWolfBones :HP dm1z

I had a Compaq Mini 311 (same chassis as the DM1) and wasn't overly happy with it
Quote from DeadWolfBones :Lenovo ThinkPad x120e

Looks perfect - but I can't seem to find any in the UK? Also, whats the Intel equivalent of the AMD Zacate E350?

EDIT - Seems the DM1 & DM1Z are totally different chassis, retract what I just said.

Quote from Agniz :Looks good! BTW, how high is the fuel consumption? Was reading some reviews about it, a time ago, and there were written something like 15l/100 in city driving mode only (IS200 ~150hp).

Would be a brilliant RWD car for me if only it didn't so damn much petrol... or even if there was a nice diesel there!

Quote from mr_x :Remember "up to 8 hours battery" is in ideal conditions - Screen so dim you can't see it, wifi and all other wireless gubbins turned off, no CPU+GPU intensive programs running.

My laptop's brightness is always on its lowest, and it's usually used for basic notetaking most of the time. My current "up to 8 hours" laptop gets ~6, my "up to 6 hours" got about 4. Thus why I want 8.

Why can't you take a charger to uni with you? They're not too much extra weight to carry and if your uni is anything like the one I go to there's always sockets you can steal some electricity from.

Cant charge in lectures, not always convienient and it's a ballache to remember to throw it in my bag each day & unplug it from the desk & do it all again when I get in. Plus I can just pick it up & go when i'm not taking anything else (I often take my laptop to my GF's house as she goes to bed really early for example)

Quote from RasmusL :Quite cheap and have Sandy Bridge processors. It's 15.6" tho. With one of the i3 processors it shouldn't be too power hungry.
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/K53SV/

If you don't give a crap about sandy bridge (don't need the performance), and you don't need 6 GB RAM, then the Acer you've found looks better for your purpose.

Battery life of that? I do have an Asus fetish I'd love to indulge...
Recommend me a laptop...

I'm going to regret asking this, but hey.

Current laptop (Acer 8371) is faulty, retailer gone under & have no more so probably going to end up with a refund.

Requirements:
<15" screen,
8+ hour battery,
<£400 (unless exceptional value),
Dual core CPU (not an Atom),
RAM unimportant (DDR3 would be nice, got 8GB spare),
GPU unimportant (HDMI would be nice, though),
HDD unimportant (500GB HDD spare),
OS unimportant (Got a spare copy of Windows 7 Ultimate),
Happy with a refurb/second hand as long as its worth it.

I use my laptop for Uni, which means it needs to have a long battery life so it can go all day without charging, and it's used for coding / databases / graphics work (next year) / the odd report.

Best i've found so far.

(and the first person to suggest a 15.6" laptop with a 3 hour battery life deserves a banhammer...)

Quote from hazaky :I wonder if iPhone 6 (or later) will have memory card slot and 3.5mm stereo output. Those are major features imo and these muppets still havnt implemented it into the iPhone.

I doubt the iPhone will ever have a memory card slot (how many iPods have it? None...)

And it already has a 3.5mm headphone socket...

Quote from BlueFlame :No, that just means your steering wheel isn't bolted on correctly. All cars should have a dead centred steering wheel.

It's possible that you can have your wheel pointing in completely the wrong direction and still going straight, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. when people change steering wheels sometimes they put them on at the wrong angle.

It's also entirely possible to have all 4 wheels in the right direction, but the steering wheel off-centred...

The wheels turned up, they look shit to be honest, but the tyres are good.

Trial fitment (looking even more ridiculous!)

Didn't fit up front (caliper was touching the spokes), and the wheels somehow managed to glue themselves to the hubs in the meantime, so took an hour of swearing to get them off...

Looks like I either need to get some spacers (would rather not) or get some new rims to put them on...

Quote from Crashgate3 :It strikes me as a little like being asked to vote between being dipped in shit for an hour, and being dipped in shit for an hour and a half. When people complain that actually, they don't like being dipped in shit, they get told 'well, you had the chance to vote for it'.

But thats exactly the same for both - either you rank them, or you just select one. Either way your getting dipped in shit for an hour (or 4 years )

To my knowledge though, you don't have to rank your choices. You can just select one candidate as your first & only choice. But it just means that if you candidate loses, your "lost" your vote.

So your point is that small parties don't deserve votes because often their loonies?

Democracy = giving people the choice to vote for who they want. Even if it's a loony.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :If Bob has 51% of the votes, Bettie has 30%, Peter has 10% and Alejandro has 9%, then Bob should win.

But what if you support Alejandro? You love all his policies, but realistically he's not going to win. Do you "waste" your vote on him, or you vote tactically and go for Bettie, hoping you can stop Bob from winning? AR lets you vote how you want, safe in the knowledge that it won't be a wasted vote.

There is rarely one party that perfectly represents your needs.

In fact, out of those votes - what if 25% of Bob's votes aren't actually "for" Bob, but they are typically minor-party voters who are against Bettie? In which case, while the voting may show that most people want Bob, in reality only 25% of the people actually want Bob, versus the 30% for Bettie...

Quote from legoflamb :the Ladders are fixed. now we have to place a ladder on every block, instead of every other block.

It would of been nice if that was in the changelog... i'd built a store room, so had an inventory full of stones, no tools, and couldn't get out of my (very underground) store room as the ladder was broken.

Digging your way out by hand = not fun.
