I was wondering how you got on after your upgrade. It is really because of T1 with a full field that I felt the need to upgrade as it is quite hard to catch slides at 19fps. With the chance of bigger fields with patch X this will only get worse. The maximum dynamic LOD settings I have to use also means the cars when close look quite poor with their square wheels. I can only run the game on one screen at the moment and I had forgotten how small one screen seems to be. Even though you only look at the side screens during tight bends it is amazing how much of a loss not having them there anymore is. I just hope I can get it running again soon.
Has anyone got this running using an 8800 GTS and another video card (that isn't a 8800GTS) ?
I had it running fine with an ATI1800XT + ATI1300 but frames rates were only about 30-35. I have upgraded my 1800XT to a 8800GTS but it seems like there are driver issues when running it alongside an ATI card. Desktop is fine but softTHG doesn't like it. Looks like I will need to replace the 1300 with an nVidia card but I am just a bit concerned that the 8800 uses a special version of the nVidia drivers and I might end up with conflicts even with a cheap nVidia card. So I wondered if anyone had a combination that works.
As far as I know the latest release now allows the centre monitor to run a different aspect ratio as well as resolution to the two side monitors. I haven't tried it yet though as I need to upgrade to a DX10 card first.
From what you say it seems the 2900XT will support 8000 pixels as it is a DX10 requirement?
all you need is a low end graphics card to plug in the second slot, 3 monitors and kegetys' software and you are good to go. An 1800XT is about the lowest graphics card to support 3x 1280x1024.
Vox-ace, your current 1900 xtx card isn't up to it. You will need an 8800 class graphics card (or possiby a 2900 if someone can confirm) to support resolutions over 4096 pixels wide. 3 x 1920 x 1200 is a lot of pixels though.
I am glad you got it working sufficiently to convince you to go for a proper 3 monitor setup.
I have been thinking of upgrading my graphics card. Does anyone know what the max texture width is for the new 2900 XT? I would like to put my 22" screen in the middle of 2 19" screens but that would take me over 4096 which at the minute means a 8800 GTS card.
Actually, I was just thinking question 2 might be your get up at stupid times in the morning at the weekend and disturb her lie in. I know Scotland hardly has any night at this time of year but you can stay a bit longer.
You nearly got me with question 1 as I know 99% of scots have red hair but BMW don't do ginger.
I got up early today in case there were any free licences being given away by people who are too generous for their own good. (Plus I have to fit a new front door and want to watch the cup final today.)
When I slide off into a large gravel trap I seem to get a lot of echo added to the sounds as if I have slid off into a tunnel. Some of the traps are large and I am no-where near any hard surfaces to cause the extra echo. Once back on the circuit it takes a few seconds for the echo to reduce back to my normal levels. This seems to be whenever I leave the circuit with lots of skid sounds not limited to just gravel traps.
I don't think this is limited to the latest W patches though as I have suspected it has been happening for sometime but obviously I don't crash that much to hear it . Has anyone else noticed this?
an S2 licence can be bought in 2 parts (S1 & S2) so can be done in steps rather than waiting until you have the full amount like it would be if you went for S2 first and needed to save for a wheel. Although you won't get a lot of online opportunities with S1 it will give you extra cars (and tracks?) to show you what you are missing and help motivate you save for the S1 to S2 upgrade.
The other advantage this way is birthday presents of £12 value i.e. LFS vouchers could be split between two relatives/friends whereas a wheel would require them to organise it between them.
I made these slightly yellow to make up for the bluish colour lfs seems to add. Maybe I went a bit too far .
Problem is from some views they look a different colour again. I created them more to show you the effect rather than as a serious attempt at alloy mudguards. I keep forgetting to get rid of them from my pc and each time I fire up the LX6 it is a  moment.
about 6 or 7 years ago a group of us took over a cybercafe to hold a toca2 event. Everyone had to bring their own wheels and peddals and it was quite amusing to watch everyone set up their wheel, install the game and then remove their shoes before racing.
You get more side vision with the extra resolution of a triple monitor display. The colours are stronger and you can sit closer so it feels even wider.
Beamer can be life sized so feels more real, but the colours tend to be more washed out as no real blacks, so you need to be in a dark room and when blown up big (I had about 6' width) you start to notice the pixels on a 1024x768 beamer.
If I had to vote purely on immersion I would say, if you can get the room dark enough the beamer takes it. Have a head crab go for you in HL and you can't help but jump. AvP on a beamer in a dark room could be quite scarey. For racing games cars can be real size with a beamer, but you are still looking through a small opening into the virtual world so no seeing what is beside you.
For racing I prefer the 3 monitors because the resolution lets you see so much more in fine detail and it is easier to set up as there is no darkening of the room required. The 3 monitor setup, if you have to choose, has a lot more advantages when not playing games. I have the two video card version rather than a TH2G which means when not playing games I have 3 independant monitors not one virtual widescreen.
Just my opinion though and based on a 1024x768 beamer against 3x19" LCD's giving 3720x1024. Might be better with a higher res beamer or/and one with better brightness than the one I have.
If you want a prod to help you along, I can confirm that the effect is great and really adds to the sense of speed.
I have a 1024x768 projector that I used to use. That does give a great feeling of scale but I still prefer the 3 monitor setup for the extra surrounding detail it offers. I have a very similar setup to you in that I am using a 1800XT. running it at 1280x1024 32 bit with 4xAA and 6xAF T1 is a bit jerky at 22-25fps but other than that I get about 36fps which is what GPL uses and is no problem to race online with.
Can't keep it on the road with the change to the FOV and all the extra detail
Frame rates a re down to 40's by myself (Radion X1800XT) so can 16bit modes be set? Only 32 bit modes appear in the list in LFS. Does it take it from the desktop settings?
I would be interested in this product if it supported LFS.
I am a bit puzzled why it doesn't support the G forces affect as this is easily available from LFS. I can see how some of the effects might not be possible, but the major selling point seems to be the G force affect and this could be implimented without anything extra from Scawen.
Supporting LFS might not work with the standard software but surely the size of LFS justifies a slightly bespoke version?
I will be trying it on a DFI Lanparty UT RDX200CF-DR SKT939 CROSSFIRE Dual PCI-E
According to the specs:
2 PCI Express x16 slots
CrossFire mode - Each x16 slot operates at x8 bandwidth. Single VGA mode - PCIE1 slot operates at x16 bandwidth. PCIE3
slot operates at x1 bandwidth.
1 PCI Express x1 slot
3 PCI slots
So I hope it can be put into 2 x8 without actually doing crossfire otherwise I may be have the same problem as you. I guess I will need to check through the bios. Not sure at this stage what happens to PCIE2 slot (if I even have one)
Is that also true for mpr replays? With a 1 hour race tracking 20 driver's inputs and applying them through the physics engine seems like by the end there is a big chance that the cars would be out of position, especially given problems with lag.
Maybe it includes some check markers to put the car into its correct position at predefined times? This wouldn't help with a reverse play but it might make it possible to cut the replay.
Shame we can't make a new replay from an exisiting replay as that would solve the problem I was looking at.
