Yes Turn 1 of Race 2 was interesting, shades of Spa 1997! A couple of guys up front got together and that was that. Worth keeping an eye out for that angry AD guy from qualy in future, he has past "form" on CTRA. Not my favourite track that, only three real corners and I can't drive any of them!
Hope to be able to get along to the races in the new season though.
Personally I don't think drivers should do anything you wouldn't see on a normal racetrack. This is supposed to be a racing simulator, not an arcade game. So doughnuts are fine, but ramming, in my opinion, is not. The other day I had a great race with a guy over the last couple of laps, seemed quite sporting, he made a last corner error and I made it to the line ahead by a car's length - as soon as I lift off, not even a chance to press Shift-P, he's rammed me into the barrier. Charming.
Here are the replays from the KY3 round on Sunday 23rd. Also the previous week's. I have my LFS set to save everything, so if I'm in it, or watching it, I've got it. Hmm, must clear out my hard drive soon... They are particularly useful for these races as there is usually lots of great action going on elsewhere on the track but always miles ahead of me so it's great to watch them back again with TV Director running, the next day. The CTRA servers save all their replays in an archive, does Airio not do the same?
I enjoyed Sunday's races a lot and I hadn't raced that track since the LFS tutorial and never with anything other than AI cars so it was good from that point of view too. Sundays certainly seems to work fine for me at the moment. I looked through the results and dropping the worst meeting doesn't affect the scores as everyone missed at least one (using MIN(range) in Excel). We tried a similar system at another racing club I'm a member of, to prevent it becoming a championship of attendance rather than of racing skill. On the one hand it's a nice safety net if something unexpected happens and you can't attend. Or then again you can do what Jakbot did, win the title good and early to make sure you have a holiday!
What about a non-championship event in between seasons, with a different car, e.g. FOX.
Well that was fun, pleased to get a podium finish more by luck than judgment! 25 minutes certainly makes your arms and feet ache though, I should probably visit the gym sometime soon. Hope to be able to get along next week.
I've put myself down to join, I've not done any league races before so I wanted to see how I get on with making sure I get all the domestic arrangements sorted out to be on-line at the appropriate time. I think Thursdays and Sundays from 8.30pm are usually both OK for me so it looks positive!
Hear hear, I was effed at yesterday on CTRA by a guy who chose to blame the person that took him out rather than the instigator of the crash. In the heat of the moment some people rush to judgment. Best to stay cool, select first gear and rejoin, assuming your car is still driveable. You'll probably find the other guy in the hedge round the next corner. Also you can see when you arrive on a server, if there are lots of accusations flying around in the chat, that relationships between some drivers are "somewhat strained" (to put it mildly) and hence stress levels are likely to be high, which can in turn lead to more shunts as the red mist descends, so take extra care and give everyone lots of space.
It happens to me sometimes but I try and remember to be ready for it, have my mouse ready over the approximate position of "join specific host" (which will remember the last one you were on) on the lobby menu, click and go, I usually get back in before the race starts.
Having almost got rid of all the "red" times on my CTRA personal bests, I'm wondering if we could have a couple of other colour codes? For times over 105%, 103% of record, for example. Just to give folk some new targets to aim for? Or alternatively have a column with the actual percentage in it.
Seem to be some missing from the 5th too, I was on Race 1 and Single Seater 1 in the evening so it looks like the flow of replays stopped when the admins went out for their annual fireworks party.
I agree that it would be a welcome little feature that folk would just get used to. Stop for too long after the end of the race - or even drive the wrong way - and you are returned to your pit. Sometimes you can just forget to hit the ESC button to de-activate your wheel. Sometimes someone will ram you right after the finish before you've even had a chance to park up, or be driving towards you as you cross the line. And for some of the circuits with CTRA haybales and so on like Fern Bay, those couple of between-race laps are a rare chance to practice these furniture-adorned corners. So anything that helps to clear the track would be worthwhile IMO.
Can you store grid position as well? Might provide some interesting stats on places gained/lost in each race, wins from last on the grid, etc. Like they do on the F1 TV stats with the up and down arrows next to the drivers' names.
That's good to know. So even the races where the server dropped out or someone voted to end the race before you finished, all laps completed and yellow flags tallied up to the break in connection are still counted by the X-system, even though lfsworld may not have a race result to show you?
Yes, well that's what I thought too... but maybe all my efforts pedalling as fast as I can for 11th place have actually never been counted towards the ratios. For example if I get punted off at T1, rejoin in clear air at the back of the field (if the car's not broken I rarely retire) and put in a run of quick (for me) and clean laps, but still finish outside the top 10 - maybe these occasions have not been included in my score.
Thanks I thought it looked odd. Does that mean the X-System never counted anything, races, yellows, or laps completed for a race where I was 11th or worse? That's a lot of races for me... if it didn't, that could also help explain why my yellow flag and finishing ratios never seem to change much.
Hmmm, still looks a bit odd though. Looking at the 4th, all 12 lfsworld races had 15 or more entrants, and I had three sessions of 4, 6, and 2 races. Lfsworld does not appear to be recording races where you mid-race-join, because in the first race of each session I finished on the lead lap which is not really possible if you are an MRJ. All the other race times are back to back so they should count as valid CTRA races as I wouldn't be leaving and joining them all mid-race. Something not quite right.
There seems to be some discrepancy between the races run figure on the CTRA "green blob", and what my lfsworld stats say. For example on the 4th October, lfsworld has results for me in 12 CTRA races but my green blob only says 5. On the 5th, it's 14 versus 9, etc.
In this particular case there were no mid race joiners. The person driving the call to end race was the guy who crashed out and sent me off track, so probably a case of "this track is too hard for me". However in their defence, possibly, is the fact that once the race ends for you, you lose the map so you can't see if anyone else is still running.
Is it at all possible to prevent a user-requested race end for, say, 3 minutes after the winner crosses the line? This would also ensure that you always get at least one run (even on the rallyx). Some people might then do OK in that race and decide to stick with it, rather than automatically choose to refuse. After all without practice you won't improve. And also you don't lose all your points and PBs if you can make it to the finish within 3 minutes, when an end-race vote has started.
That would be great if it were possible. And on the same subject, on the rare occasion that the 27 lap Fern Bay Rallycross comes up (which I personally enjoy, but it seems not many others do), I never get to race it as everyone else votes to "end race" on the first grid, saying "if you want to race rally, go to a rally server". But I *like* racing rally cross within the CTRA environment.
To me it's as bad as a mid race joiner taking you out on the last corner, but there is no mechanism in the reporting system to report "everyone else in the race". A waste of 10 minutes of my time because others are too impatient. I think I did a PB too. I was only that far behind because one of the other guys crashed me out and I had to make a pit stop Grrr.
Or maybe a "scroll to... " (username) or "find..." which would take you to a page or user that you're seeking; or create a page with your searched item on it and 10 others either side, if either are easier.
