I would just like to see a video for proper drafting technique. Sorry I didn't specify.

An old buddy from a car forum and I were bs'ing on AIM. He said that he was playing LFS. I enquired as to what it was. I downloaded the demo (Early S1) and immediately purchased s1 and s2. In turn, I purchased a Momo wheel, ACT labs shifter and pedals. Sadly, I used the shifter twice and the pedals less often than my Momo's. Then when the DFP came out, I bought that too... now they all sit and I use my kb and mouse.

I never really "raced". I, more often than not, would just drive around, seeing what I could and couldn't do. S2 came out and I got into drifting (EEK!). I've been pretty heavy into that since S2 came out and for some reason I joined FM's oval server two nights ago and I'm hooked on the BF1. So, out with the drifting...
Video request and a question.

First, the video request. Could someone fraps a replay of a draft on KY oval, A full lap of drafting please in the BF1.

And, for the question: If you're driving the BF1 with a shifter, can you skip gears through the gearbox? For instance, can you go from first to third? Not really important, just curious as to the realism with the BF1's gearbox and ability with a shifter.
Car teleports around the track. Fix

Okay, so... I had been playing for a week or so and after a good 20 minutes of play my car would begin teleporting over to random parts of the tracks.

I just posted this thread to give a solution in case someone had the same problem. After going through every possible problem that it could be, it is your CPU. My CPU was overheating because dust had built up in the fans of my laptop. I cleaned them out and blammo. No more teleporting.

Just an FYI that I hadn't found before.

I used to be wicked with a wheel, but as my desk cannot accomodate my DFP and ACT labs pedals/shifter... I have to resort to my keyboard and mouse.

Do any of you use a KB and Mouse and have some tips?

Looks like an Enzo and a McLaren F1 had babies and that ugly thing was born.

Quote from Michael Denham :I like it in the MRT. Makes me want to go karting Can't help with the spawn point I'm afraid, but afaik it's not possible to change the location.

My best in the MRT is Edit: 21.94 seconds. My best IRL at the course was 24.6. The MRT has a lot higher acceleration rate though.

Simple small (technical?) track

I just got back from the karts, figured I'd make a mock track to see (from above) where I was going wrong and what I could do to improve.

It's almost to scale (with the exception of the first turn, I made it wider to compensate for the handling and speed of the kart car.

*Warning* CR1.jpg is a screenshot of the overview. It is 1920 x 1200

Edit: Updated the first cornerr to sweep, added a full "pit". I don't know how to add the spawn point for the pit, can anyone shed some light?

Quote from glyphon :its not bad. i agree about the simplistic skin view...

a couple of things that i noticed...
first off, the text on the sides need to be cleaned up. it looks like you used an image that you cut the text out of. if you did, the text tool in photoshop will produce better results.

2nd, the i think color of the stripe behind the front wheels doesn't fit the car. if i was doing this skin, i'd try grey or black.

Thanks for the comments.

The text was done in Photoshop using a few different filters to give it that look. I don't know why, but it looks a lot better in game.

As for the color of the stripe, I would probably agree had I changed it. I just threw something on there to make it less bland than it already was.

Quote from Blackout :Doesn't look there is much in it. Not bad for a first skin but you could want to take that picture somewhere where there is more light, like in the viewer. You used that right?

As requested.

I left it kind of "not much in it" because I'm not into the stickers and things. I figured a CF top half, and something small on the bottom would be suitible for me. I like it to the extent that the CF looks cool, and the blue contrasts the orange pretty well, but... there's different things I could do to improve the clean look.

It's a start. I figured out a lot about skinning just by doing this.
My first skin.

I decided to make a skin because my FZ5 was getting a bit bland.

I'm not much for stickers and stuff, but I threw in a little stripe. Being as I'm terrible, and by terrible I mean it took me like 2 hours just for the CF on the car, at Photoshop it took me quite some time.

I'm semi-satisfied with the outcome.

Track is fun as hell.

Here's a video of my terrible drifting... took about 10 passes to even remotely get the first turn half-way down.

*The music in the video was completely unintentional. I forgot to turn off winamp while I was frap'sing.*

Quote from alland44 :I`m close to buying those pedals. Just the distance and the shipping costs eventually scares me.

Damn it is a nice set of pedals.

I bought them from a member of these, or another LFS forum. Screws were all stripped out which causes the brake pedal to flex too much. Other than that they're a very nice set.

I enjoyed them for the few days I could stand the brake pedal. Now I'm using my mouse and KB.
ACT Labs back in business.

Quote from Email from ACT :This is not a spam.

Your have joined a survey held by ACT LABS and you asked us to inform
you when we are ready to bring back the RS racing gear

This might be a bit late than that we wish, but here we are.

We found that Advantage 1 GT pedals would be the best to work with ACT
LABS RS system, this is made in Australia by Simracers for Simracers,
however, the shipping cost and import duty/brokerage would be
prohibitive by individual customer in US or Canada, therefore we are going to
ship them from our Vancouver office. (all are completely built in
Australia).

Please note we will normally only keep a few pedals for each model so
pre-order will be highly recommended, your credit card will not be
charged until we are ready to ship.
