Yea it really slows your computer down when cars start to lag so much. :P

btw a pentium 4 can't handle 20 AIs, i've tested that myself

Are you guys afraid to lose a race for someone who uses auto-clutch and sequential shifter? lol

I use mouse to steer, didn't buy the license (won it in a champ, check my signature), and have no money to buy a wheel, so what? is it really fair to exclude people like me from some servers just because I am poor and have not enough money to buy even a wheel like momo that doesn't have a clutch pedal? Momo costs around $225 (around R$450) in Brazil, G25 costs $600 (around R$1200).

Anyway, I don't think Scawen is going to take this thread seriously.

Quote from george_tsiros :@renvon: interesting do the fps drop at T1? it's a wild difference, 3fps to 35fps which can not be explained easily unless there is something very wrong with bangerboy's pc (and we are not talking only about slight diferences in hardwre spcs)

FPS drops a bit to like 28~30 or so at T1, but it's pretty playable for me.
not to mention that bangerboy's videocard is much better than mine! (mine's like a 7600gs or so)

the only way my computer lags a lot with stuttery sound (or however it spells) is when I have connection lag, like when ping is above 0.30~35, cars start to be a mess on my screen and I get really low fps... if not, it's fine.

I don't think it's really starting to die anyway. :P
Either a processor works normally or it doesn't work at all, and you can always try a fresh install of both Windows XP and LFS. Even if you reformatted it a month ago, it is really possible that your windows/lfs/both is/are damaged.

By the way, if possible, I suggest you to try out XP SP2, I felt my computer was slight slower after I installed SP3 and then I restored it back to SP2 again. Maybe it was just with me anyway.

@george,
hold on, i'll take it

EDIT: done

I don't know why people keep talking shit about your P4, it is more than enough to play LFS decently. I have my P4 2.66GHz for 3 years now and the only problem I had with FPS was because the old motherboard was underclocking it to 2.1GHz, then I had so much lag in starts, but now it's fine, I really have no problem. Even with full grid, it doesn't suck.

Did you check the temperatures? Overheating may also cause it. Not only on the processor, but also on your GPU.
My sister has a Celeron 2.5 Socket 478 and prescott cores are well-known overheaters.
Mine's a northwood, 28ºC in idle and 35ºC in full load.

Quote from ACCAkut :just had some crazy lag at race start, but it wasn't that kind where directX is F**ed up afterwards. I manged to spectate, and everything was normal again

i already have Z15 installed

edit: it just crashed when I alt-tabbed back to LFS, made pic short before it

I've had this before even with Z version, it is probably that your videocard is faulty or your power supply is not powerful enough, which was what happened to me.

He's not talking only about AIs, but also about FPS drops in multiplayer mode.

I have a Pentium 4 2.66GHz (socket 478, just like yours), 2x512Mb RAM and a Radeon X1650Pro (which is slower than yours), my mobo supports agp 4x only and still I don't have any problem on LFS, sometimes I can get over 100 fps on westhill, for example (I limit it to 70 tho), I really have no problem with this processor. I also play some other games like GRID and Dead Space, also I have no problem with them.

The only reason that I can't think of is some bug in your windows, have you tried reformatting it?

yea, if we are talking about WRs, it doesn't matter what is safer, just what is faster.

There is a huge difference between a great race driver and a great hotlap driver.

By the way, sorry for the 'bump'.

Quote from scipy :Don't get me wrong.. the point of heel'n'toe is to keep the car balanced under heavy braking and downshifting it's just that you need to brake and blip the throttle all with the right foot. With left foot braking you just brake with the left one but the throtle should still be blipped on downshifts (with the right foot) depending on how your car is set up i.e. brake bias, tendency toward oversteer, diff locking on coast and diff preload.

Example: on SO4 with FZR you want a very responsive car that will turn in easily so you mostly go for the bigger wing distribution on front, less preload (around 500-600 instead of 700-800 used on most fast tracks), lower locking factor on coast (like 60ish %) and then you have a car that will turn in quite well BUT since the track is very bumpy and some important braking zones are on downhills and over curbs, your brake bias has to be set 1-2 % more towards the rear than it would usually be. The cost of which is that during hard braking and quick downshifts, the rear will want to snatch out and that's where blipping comes in.. you blip (as you would with heel'n'toe) so that the clutch meets the engine flywheel at a more similar rotational speed.

On the other hand, track like KY3: you would use a much more preloaded diff and higher locking factors to stabilise the rear (because the car will have about 34 % downforce on front, usually it's between 30-32 for most other tracks) and then you will blip the throttle less on downshifts (or not at all) to intentionally distabilise the rear in order to help the car to turn in quicker for fast turns. Distabilised rear means front has more grip and the car turns in, because of huge downforce the rear will regain grip almost immediatley after the turn in is done and you drive off into the sunset.

Omg haha, I wish I knew that much about setups.

Thanks.

Quote from Whiskey :If im not worng that happens when you graphic card runs out of memory, so it mix up the textures

that happens with me and my videocard has 512mb, I think it's much more than enough for LFS, and still I have that bug in my mirrors.

It doesn't really matter what options you have set, that's how the gearbox works in real life.
