Only briefly and hadn't tried the previous version so can't compare them. IMHO it doesn't compare to LFS yet, seems to be using the pacejka formula for tyres which a lot of older sims used and feels out of date now. Other than that can't find fault with it (considering its the 1st beta), the mod tracks are good, Nurburgring is really nice, and car mods should should be allowed fairly soon too.

Performance is good, graphics are more or less on par with LFS, has weather, not tried online multiplayer yet, know there where some issues and this release was supposed to fix a good part of them but not checked yet. Takes a bit long to load but doubt anything's been optimised there yet and probably has a lot of debugging info to load as its a beta. Best bit for me, it runs perfectly on wine/linux (as does LFS)

The PiBoSo (omg, that's freakily like FoMoCo to type) release I'm watching closely is GP Bikes, it's the most accurate bike sim for a long long time, better than GP500 in many ways, there is a GP bikes thread here on LFS forum, beta 2 is due out soon and was waiting for that to post to it. The same tracks can be used for both that and World Racing Series and a single subscription gets both, well worth 20 euro IMHO.

Its a 12100km diameter silhouette and its just a spec on the sun, what more do you want to make it something special, blue LED's and go faster stripes? The sun is out fairly often even in the UK, you can look at it any time you want to see what colour it is, try it through binoculars and it could be permanently engraved as the last thing you ever see and as to post processing, the sun is a damn great massive ball of violent and mysterious energy and is awe inspiring enough without CGI.

Quote :I really don't see the reason of them not expanding their team. Because I'm sure there are more stories of how team expansion has saved a game.

I got a story! I'm self employed and ticking along steadily, could have expanded many times, bought more equipment, taken on staff, etc. and I couldn't be arsed. That would bring on a lot more responsibilities and hassles that I just don't want and, most importantly, that's my business and anyone telling me what I 'should' do with it can F off.

Got another one. Did some development with VDrift (open source race sim) some time ago, mostly to learn how race sims and 3d games in general work. If folks want x, y or z they are very welcome to grab a copy of that (or any other open source sim, there's quite a few) and make it happen. I would bet the LFS dev's would be happier helping folks get over challenges in something like that than being told what they 'should' do with their own work.

It not the crysis engine. There have been a few threads about it, this is main one, the damage is developed by BeamNG.

Only thing you can do is try it, I had a copy of windows from a P2 detect what drivers it needed and work properly on an AMD64 board once, another time a P3 installation refused to work on a P4 :/ If your running XP then I'd suggest re-installing anyway as it can get cruddy after a while, if your running 7 then its likely it will just work with the new board and it doesn't seem to get slow and bloated over time. If your running vi**a then I suggest installing something else, DOS, an Amiga emulator, anything.

Game development has changed a lot in recent years, 'a game' is built up from components and they are rarely all done by the same company any more. Car sims are getting a lot of development atm and LFS is one of the best sims out there, I wouldn't be surprised if they have been contracted to another sim and (for example) rf2's impressive new tyre model is Scawen's work.

As to the price, IMHO LFS is worth 30 euro for the realism and quality of racing even if it hasn't been updated for years, its still ahead of anything else. I paid an extra 30 to get S2 for a friend who hardly ever plays, LFS works perfectly with linux/wine and that makes it worth the 60 euro to me.

Makes sense, large panels (like TV's) are doing a huge amount of image enhancement, 3d screens will be doing a load more, guess monitors are doing the same whereas CRT's just get analogue signals to the alignment plates.

Makes sense if there is a new CPU socket out. If it had been out a while and MB's had come down to sensible prices then it would be worth getting a good quality MB and power supply, then putting in a low price CPU and graphics card for later upgrade.

+1, lotus 7's looks are only there to cover a stiff, light frame that is quick and nimble even with a 1600 crossflow. Better quality materials will make a difference to weight and stiffness but not a big one. As to beetle based 911's, mr2 based ferraris and cortina based 'classis roadsters'.... faggots. Maybe 2cv based morgans could be a bit of fun if they weren't so fugly.

Quote :And why would they not create a flat physics engine which all cars use then change attributes to the cars....

IHMO they are still using lookup tables for cars attributes (judging by some of the very weird issues) instead of calculating on the fly. Lookup tables are by far the fastest way of doing that kind of thing (that's why iracings foundations, grand prix legends performed so well) but can get messy when trying to interpolate many variables.

Ministry in the Temple Bar Music Center, Dublin closely followed by Sepultura in the same venue. After that, Motorhead and Slayer at just about every venue I've seen them and some local teenage band that played on the back of a trailer at a bike rally many years ago. Cant remember their name or even the venue but they where mindblowingly good and the fact that they had practically no chance of signing with a record label (because that business is about profits, not talent) makes me despise the music industry and is refreshed with just about every pop song I hear.

Quote :(Do flatscreens still do that magnetic thing with the green and purple?)

Just waved a fancy high power magnet at the screen here and made no difference. A friend once left a couple of guitar cab speakers on top of a telly for a mo, had 2 huge purple tits on the screen for about a week after

Was going to say 'stop being pedantic' but that's very impressive virtual physics and whoever got those calculations working together so well deserves credit for it. BeamNG site doesn't say a whole lot though :/

CRT? Used to be a fairly common problem with CRT's around the end of the last millennium, finding someone to fix it could be tricky and to fix it for less than a new flatscreen almost impossible. No reason a flatscreen couldnt have the same kind of trouble though, still uses RGB channels all the way to the panel. If its a flatscreen pull the back off and have a look for dead things and loose connections (especially if it got any kind of hard knock before). Give it a blast out with an airline (canned air is ok, let it dry out for a full day for compressor air) as it could simply be dust buildup. TBH, wouldn't have much hope if its a flatscreen, there are a lot of tricks inside to make them unfixable. Plug it out first etc, if you die painfully its your problem

It could be fairly easy to implement, the same time lfs asks for full force at the limit stops it also limits the steering input to 100% and ignores any higher input. Guessing there would be some issue with this though, maybe the force feedback signals cant go as high as whatever command the logitech drivers issue for the stops and there would probably be trouble with latency.

Yep, pots ware out. Only thing special about pots on pedals is they are servo type pots with low friction, practically every pot on retailers shelves are the conventional type (high friction to turn by hand and hold position). No real problem using that type, it puts more strain on the mountings, some pots (metal can type mostly) can be striped and the friction reduced.

As far as I can see the one on thesimshop is just a conventional pot (high friction type) costing a few pence from a retailer, if they verify its a servo pot then 4.50 isn't a bad price, they can be got cheaper but very hard to find. If its not then a ceramic pot would be about the same price and last a lot longer.
