Good work on the interiors Madman

I made a little change to LX interior. I thought the buttons/switches looked kinda dull because they were all grey and had the same sign on them. So I took some new ones from some old texture I used in S1. Don't have any idea who made it originally.

Quote from ShannonN :The interior on the newer model RAC irl is blue. it has a new motor and lots of changes, I'm hoping Tege will talk Scawen into uppin the specs to the latest model, I have a short email interview with Mikko Karppinen about the newer model and how it drives etc, what changes are due.

He states he has driven the current LFS S2 RAC and it compares well to the real life 2002 model etc etc

Wow didn't know someone has interviewed Mikko about RA in LFS, nice. I have talked with Scawen and they have all the info (except engine because it isn't "finished" yet.) and pics to make textures. So it's up to ScaViEr to update the car in lfs if they want to. About the real car... it should be ready soon so I can go for a ride.

Quote from Jamexing :And seriously, do check the latest EVO IX specs (max torque at 3000rpm, max power at 6500rpm). Now that is a realsitic power curve.

RPMs for max torque & power don't say much about the powercurve and EVO IX is laggy even though it has a new turbo. Normal 2.0l or even 1.8l engines responses to throttle faster at low revs (under 2500rpm) than EVO IX but after 3000 rpm things really start to happen on the new EVO.

Like ArosaMike said all teams have the same budget.

Helsinki Polytechics team is still probably one of the smallest. Used to be under ten guys and the succeeded good back then too. About the design I think they still use the School of Art in Helsinki to do the design. The reason they are good is that they have great partners and great guys working on the car. For example the ECU is made by one guy (not in the actual team though).

I know few of the guys who used to be on the team and actually I made some little testing for the team with lfs couple of years ago.

On normal roads I always use only one hand at 12 or at 9. I drive one handed even at winter. On track with real cars or kart or what ever I use 9-3.

Al, that's one nice skin. I've seen similar ones before but my question is can we have it at 2048x res?

Wow! Quite a few guitar players here. Nice. I've been playing for about 10 years now. Been in a few bands as a bass player and done couple of small gigs. I just bought a Les Paul about two months ago.

And yes that guy in that vid is good (the first post).

Quote from frokki :But honestly, I think it's a good idea, but I doubt would the TopGear ppl be interested at all. What would this give to them? Maybe if RaceAbout had some 150hp more horsepower...

More power?! Now it has better power to weight ratio than for example Ferrari 360. With 150 hps more it would be close to Ferrari Enzo and with those tyres and with no downforce. What is the point?

But yes I like to see RA on Top Gear after the new car is finished. Problem is who pays.

Nice job

Some things I noticed... Take the floor mats off they are just for shows etc. What's with the radio? And you forgot the yellow/orange stitching from seats, doors etc. Blue color could maybe use bit more saturation.

Quote from Fonnybone : How did the RA get in LFS and does the company
making that car give ANY money for the publicity ?!

It's RaceAbout!

I suggested it to the devs and they said yes. I had (still have) access to the car and was able to provide info and take photos for textures. There is no company making them. Only one car is made. It's designed and built by students with the help of some companys. There was(/is) no money involved. It's good publicity for both the car (and the school) and LFS.

Quote from XCNuse :and i just noticed something very flawed.. the RA's seats are red.. not black like the ones in LFS.. i hope that gets fixed

Yep that's kinda my fault. I couldn't get a good photo of the seats for Eric. Hard to do when they are in the car. I'll try to do a better job on '05 photos (if that car will be in lfs). I've done red ones from one photo that I took but they aren't really that good. I can post them if you want.

Quote from XCNuse :um.. there is no modeled intercooler on our RA.. the intercooler is inside the nose of the car.. why would there be one in the rear where.. heat goes out.. not air comming in?

Actually is it at rear... you can see it on the pic you posted.

Quote from tristancliffe :It's not LFS is wrong per say, it's just that the real car specs have changed since it was coded into LFS.

I think

Yes and no Last time i heard the old engine is still in the car but the new engine (closer to LFS) will be in some day. The engine was supposed to be in the car a while ago that's why we decided to use the new engine and "tune" it to power which was discussed for the real car then.

Quote from ajp71 :Some very fast times in the road cars, the Mini is at least 5 seconds to quick

Think the race cars are more like it though

Actually RA is about right... (again) the hp & Nm are different in RL and LFS.

Quote from TravisS :According to the Raceabout website the 1/4 mile is actually closer to 14 seconds... so you've gone about 1.5 seconds faster then the real thing!

Makes me wonder. Is that 14s time way off, or is LFS way off?

http://www.raceabout.fi/car_techdata.php

If you look a bit harder you'll see that engine power is different...

@Lible

The RA guys know what version is in LFS... maybe the guy who makes the website doesn't.

I've edited the textures to look like the '05 cockpit to test how it looks... actually quite easy to do.

@DodgeRacer

Hmm... to me it looks like to one in the real car and I've seen the car many many times.

@Marsden1002

I've explained this many times but I can do it once more. The engine in LFS is the new engine which will be in RA05. For LFS that engine was just "tuned" by me. I took the peak values from a engine tuners site that sell tuning chips for that engine. 250hp comes from talks with the RA guys and from a study that I made. We decided that 250hp would be good for the car. The values on the RA website are just from a another tuner company and they probably be the ones that will be in the real car.

About getting RA05 in LFS... I can't say for sure because I don't decide what cars are in LFS and what aren't. I've talked about it with the devs and probably it will be in LFS some day.

@P1lot

Actually it's kinda hard to read the gauges in the real car too. The 05 car fixed that but when driving on the track you don't really need them.

@vpr01

It seems that the RA is affected most from the problems in the tyre physics. It's too bad but we'll need to wait for the patch to fix the problems.

Quote from JTbo :Currently rpm limiter is about 1500-2000rpm too high in RA for example. Would be more realistic to get it to 7000-7500 range.

Actually in real RA the revlimiter is at 6100rpm and on the new engine maybe 6500 or something.

Quote from Bob Smith :My dad used to have a few Minis, and they were very bouncy.

Yeah bouncy is the right work for old Minis but UF doesn't feel like that. I'm not saying it supposed to be like old minis but more like todays version of the original concept.

Quote from Bob Smith :Calling the XF GTi a "hot hatch" by todays standards is a bit much, consider the hatchbacks on sale now. It's still a bit warm, but your average "shopping cart" rolls all over the place, more-so than this GTi setup.

I know today hot hatches have about 200hp but we have to remember that they weight a lot more than GTI. So the weight/power is quite close.

Quote from Bob Smith :Evos/Imprezas probably use Torsen diffs which can have much higher locking values without a negative impact to the handling. Since those diffs aren't available in LFS yet I have to compromise.

Actually EVOs have active diffs and torsen front. Impreza has same kind of diffs but not as sophisticated.

Quote from Bob Smith :The FXO already has the stiffest suspension of the Turbo trio, but I doubt it would have an LSD (considering it's very similar to an Astra Coupe).

Ok that's true not many FWD cars have LSD... couple tuning companies versions have them though (but FXO is "stock").

Quote from Bob Smith :My Dad also built a Westfield some years back so I can assure you that setup is reasonably accurate. Once I watched him drive up the road with just him in it, and you could see that the car was lower on the drivers side than on the passengers side (and this was from 30m away). As a basic car it did not have an LSD or anti-roll bars. The LX6 is more like a racier model, so it gets a sportier package. It's already the stiffest setup in the pack. It also has enough diff locking to prevent inside wheelspin (well, just about) - any more than this and you're just making the car oversteer more under power (not something the car needs).

Ok they just seem stiffer from the vids I've seen. (LSDs are an option for all Westfields.)

Quote from Bob Smith :The FZ50 is NOT a Porsche so you can only use the 911 settings as a guide, you can't take them literally. I doubt unsprung masses match for starters (so there's more to think of than you might at first think).

I'm not saying that FZ=Porsche but values from Porsches are a good quide to build a real setup to FZ.

Ok my analysis on these setups. Firstly I still think that they are bit too soft and have too much bodyroll. Reason for opinion is that IMO the cars in LFS are sporty cars not comfortable cruisers. So if you want make setups like they would be if these cars were real here's what I think:

UF 1000: This car is close to old Mini and those cars dont' have soft suspensions and they have quite stiff ride (someone who knows more about Minis correct me if I'm wrong).

XF GTi: This car is a hot hatch not a moms shopping cart. Nowdays hot hatches don't have much bodyroll.

XR GT: Beside the looks this should be kinda sporty car also.

XR GT Turbo: This set isn't too bad. Maybe bit more ARBs and stiffer dampers.

RB4 GT: Diff locks all the way. Maybe open front diff like Lancer Evo used to have (is allready like that). Center visco is ok but more locking for rear. Imprezas and Evos aren't that soft.

FXO Turbo: I think this car would have some kind of locking diff and stiffer suspension.

LX4: A bit too soft and LSD wouldn't be a bad idea.

LX6: A bit too soft and need more locking on diff.

RA: Hmm maybe better that I won't say anything about this

FZ50: This is supposed to be 911 GT3 which is stiff and has more locking in diff. This car can't be made to drive as good as the modern 911s because of the unfinished physics. (same goes for RA aswell and some other cars).

Quote from _--NZ--_[HUN] :On the Raceabout website we can see two versions of the car: Raceabout 02/03 and 05.
Which version is in LFS? The specs in LFS doesn't match the specs on the RaceAbout website.

Basically it's the 02/03 but the engine is from '05 car differently tuned than in website. Those specs (and maybe something else) will change before final version, don't worry
