you can edit your cars in a 3D modelling aplication(like 3D studio max, maya, cinema 4d, blender, etc-etc) - search for poly modelling tutorials in google or at http://tutorialized.com

but

there isn't a "legal/public" way to add those models to the game, maybe in the future one of the devs will tell us

i don't thinks so, only in a plugin, the default physic engine in max is the reactor, it's simple, and you can do some basic things with it

nice studio, but you don't need it, only the panels, like lights or reflection planes or self illumination planes, because it isn't visible on your renders, so nice, but a simple plane with bending is enough for it[and a white to black grandient map for the environment map(background)]!
