Is It Worth Swapping My 8800GTX For An 8800GT?
Due to the place I work who are having a sale, I have bagged some bargains (before the great unwashed get to see the stuff )

PNY 8800GT 512MB - £49.97,

Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty - £49.97.

Now I don't get staff-discount on clearance stuff per sé, but I do have a £15 gift card to use (which I was gonna use to get a reclusa), but they are still great prices.

As it is i don't really game on my PC, but I do wish it was quieter and that there was more room in the case - and going from "t3h behemoth" GTX to a GT would solve both those issues - I'm aware it's slower, and has less vRAM (the bigger issue for me), but by how much?

Also - I like the idea of a Fatal1ty simple because it makes my ePeen longer, gives me XRam (which I don't really need but meh) and but more importantly should give me better sound quality...

Also - how much would my "old" 8800GTX & X-Fi XtremeMusic OEM be worth?
8800Gt aint that quite though.

It is still more quiet than a GTX though and you won't see much of a difference in LFS as it is more biased toward's the CPU

@JakG - I take it PC world's will be open on boxing day with the sale's? I too need a new card to replace my slowly dying 3870.

PC World is open from 7AM, but there will be a rediculous number of customers and few bargains.

Out of all the graphics cards we sell - only one was a decent price on clearance (the 8800GT) - and we only had 2 of those (i say 2 - but one was taken by the manager and one is in a hidden, locked cabinet - for me :P).

The sale started today (which is odd seeing as all promotional material etc says boxing day).
Buy an aftermarket cooler for the GTX (Arctic Cooling Accelero is pretty spiffy). That should quieten it down a fair bit.

So - do I or don't i?
Don't swap it. If I were you I'd buy the 8800GT and sell it later with profit. And I agree with Crashgate A new cooler probably isn't very expensive.
depends what res you game at?

Usually 1680x1050, but I hope to go to 1900x1200 soon - but occasionally I use triple monitors for ridiculous resolutions, but only in LFS (which uses bugger all vRAM anyway).

Aren't the great unwashed generally considered to be the employees at such stores?

If I were u : sell both cards and get something passively cooled, maybe a 8400gs if u really don't game? Or something faster, just get something with a big fat passive heatsink.
if youre going for 1920 keep the gtx and give me the gt

I do game every couple of days, but play stuff like BF2 - but I like the fact that when 1337 games come out I can try them on ultra-mega-high (i.e. Crysis) without having to think "maybe this game would be better on high" and constantly wanting to upgrade.

Either way - A passive 8400GS is a no-no due to turbo-crap, and an 8500GT is about £25-£30 minimum - whereas the 8800GT is £49.97.

I got the GTX for free in the first place so meh :P

ATM I think i'm gonna do it - as it is I could still sell it for more on t3h bay...

Too late, can buy at £50 and sell the GTX for £70 - £110 so I did it.
I game at 1920x1200 with a pair of 4850 in crossfire which keeps me happy in everygame i play, don't even struggle when playing crysis/warhead at maxed out with custom config.

I would of sold the gtx and put the money to a 9800 GT OC and saved yourself £6 .
um last i remember the 8800gt is faster than the 8800gtx. the 8800gtx is g80 core and the 8800gt is the newer g92 core and with an over clock on the gt it will be the same performance. here ya go its pretty close almost same fps and scores at 1900x1200 res and the gt will take less power and be cooler. if i were you i would sell the gtx and keep the gt as its quieter, less power and less heat and performs the same as the gtx.

GT gets just as good FPS in BF2 if not better so putting the GTX on eBay "soon".
