Which CPU is overheating? Your E8400? That can't be. I have E8400 with stock fan and it runs at 40 degrees. Always. Even in games. Granted, I have good airflow in my case.

i have a 7 year old case fan :P

EDIT: both fans on full, idle is 34 degrees. Could it have been a conflict of drivers? (ie, running windows that was made for another system)
Windows is Windows, it doesn't matter which system you run it on, that's the point.

And how is 34 degrees bad? That's a very good temp. A bad temp would be 100 degrees. What's the temp when you're playing games?

i dont know what was wrong before i did a fresh install of windows, and now the temps are back to normal. im happy now

EDIT: whilst playing '18 wheels of steel' it goes up to 50 degrees, thats ok right?
50 is perfectly acceptable for a CPU under load. The general rule of thumb is to try and keep under 60 degrees, as any more will begin to shorten the lifespan of your processer. Mine maxes out at about 52.
