Yes,YES and well, yes The Orphanage wasn't as good as Pan's Labyrinth tho', but still watchable. And REC, i loved it!
Just finished watching RocknRolla - Enjoyed every fakin minute of the movie, damn good actors, damn good plot, damn good film. And it made me lol a lot :d (the scene where they rob them n00bs is just priceless )! Can't wait for the sequel D= (Go Guy Ritchie, go!)
I'm also like that, I have a vast collection of movies (some good some bad) and I have to say I'd recommend any movie which stars Denzel Washington, most if not all the movies I've seen him in are absolutely brilliant (The Hurricane, Deja Vu, Man on fire, Remember the titans - saw this last night, brilliant film, one of my favourites).
I also enjoy war movies, Windtalkers, Behind the Enemy Gate and Saving Private Ryan being my favourites.
As for the less well known movies I'd recommend The Negotiator, Virtuosity, Equilibrium and Cypher. I absolutely love these movies, and had I been old enough to watch them at the cinema I would have (Though they wouldn't have been on for long ) :P
lol the only thing and i say ONLY thing that made the Mist good was the ending i mean he went through all that stuff and ended up making a huge mistake the movie has a very very bad un expected ending and thats what makes movies good for me
apart from that The Mist was crap not scary stupid acting fake unbeleaveable creature's not to mention stupid story line
and as for Death Note i think its one of the best story lines in any movie/series i have seen
Just seemed to me that it was a desperate attempt to be shocking rather than a natural outcome of the storyline. Also, the acting in the final scene was horrible.
Well, since we're stuck on the subject of the Mist:
I liked some of the elements in it, the blatant HP Lovecraft influence for example, the fact that it didn't focus on the creatures that much as a source of horror for the story - sure the characters were terrified of them, but the more interesting bit for the viewer was the way the characters themselves panned out. In fact, I wish they didn't show any creatures during the main part of the movie - a tentacle here or there perhaps or maybe a hint of "something in the mist" and just save it for the final scenes.
Also the ending was too HPL-like for me not to like, the whole paranoid desperation in realizing how there's only one thing left to ... n the Old Ones cross over, etc and the fact that (well we've obviously tossed spoilers all over the place) it wasn't a "happy ending".
Admittedly, it mostly made me laugh - didn't feel any suspense or thrill and I don't know if that's what they wanted to bring out. The last Stephen King story turned movie I had seen, the Dreamcatcher or something like that, had me chuckling away all through it so I think it's just the King effect for me.
I imagine so, I've yet to encounter a movie that outdid the book it was based on. And no, I'm not saying that it was a masterpiece - far from it - just that it likely fell victim of it's own genre labeling and had potential to be something different.
The good thing about The Mist is that it will one day soon turn into one of those great cheesy movies that show up on TV occasionally at 3am in the morning after you've been out all night drunk/stoned etc to provide you a few laughs before falling into bed. Thank God for those movies.
Another thumbs up for Slumdog Millionare A fantastic movie, the best I've seen for a while.
I also liked The Wrestler a lot. I hate wrestling and we've all seen the story loads of other time in other films, but Mickey Rourke was excellent. His performance alone made it worth the watch for me.
The Wackness Is a coming of age story/stoner movie/buddy movie/comedy/drama/romance.... etc It's got a bit of everything. What kept me watching more than anything was Ben Kingsley. The guy is probably the best actor of his generation. I can watch anything with him in it, which is why after watching The Wackness i fired up that little gem.. Sexy Beast
A nothing special crime caper that is transformed into compulsive viewing by Sir Ben in his role as Don Logan. You cant take your eyes off the screen when hes on it. A truly terrifying nutter. Best watched immediately after the outstanding Ghandi for full effect
I've found too that reading the book before watching the movie is usually disappointing, unless we're talking about something like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. That absolutely ruined "Silence of the Lambs" for me. The movie just seemed average.
I just watched "Atonement". It´s basically a tragic love story with a bit of a twist in the end. I quite liked it and it has Keira Knightley in it. Always a plus.
Maybe someone or even me suggested "The Others" already. It´s not new (2001) but I thought I´d mention it anyway. In my opinion it´s Nicole Kidman´s best movie. And it´s a movie I found really creepy, not any of that slasher nonsense that has been sold as "horror". It develops quite slow in the beginning but stick with it. The end is good.
Today I watched Pitch Black and enjoyed it.
It's 2 hours well spent if:
1. You didn't have anything to do anyway.
2. You get enjoyment out of trashy action movies with overly cool main characters and mediocre acting.
The beach and some of the indoor scenes were filmed like 5minutes away from me...REDCAR BEACH (and crappy cinema which some indoor stuff was done in) IS FOR THE WIN.
...For the record, I havent actully seen it thoe >___>
Edit: Watched Drillbit tailor a few nights ago, quite liked it, funny, plot was acceptably nice, was a bit cheesy here and there, but that just added to it
