Quick question about internet connection sharing with vista.
My mate has a laptop which we setup to use ics, so he could connect his xbox 360 to the laptop to work over his 3g dongle.
It worked for a week or so, now his xbox fails the network tests, and can't get an ip address. The xbox 360 is showing in the network connections though on the laptop...
Tried re-doing everything the way we did the first time to no joy..
ICS likes the local network adapter of the computer to be set to 192.168.0.1 and dns on the client PCs (xbox in this case) to be set to 192.168.0.1 . Note the IP configuration on the client PC(xbox in this case) needs to be dynamic. ICS uses what is called a proxy DNS server, or something like that to change IP addresses to names and vice versa.
I have seen this done a thousand times as well too:
The person setting up the share on the wired ethernet adapter rather then the wireless (internet source adapter). So you should be going to the 3G card to share it instead trying to share the Wire connection. Windows has to know what connection you want to share as apposed to the connection the Clients will be connecting too. Of the 3 or so people i have helped setup ICS before, they all did or tried to make this mistake. It is very easy to do by accident.
Check the Windows firewall. you can't turn it completely off as the windows firewall is part of ICS. So you can have to adjust the firewall settings to accomidate..sometimes... I think there might even be a setting for XBOX in the firewall settings.
Might even check out the XBOX forums and FAQ. I have seen things like this there before. Even a good old google search could help you find you way.
