Hi people. I think there is some genius out there that plays LFS, and i need your help. Can someone explain to me, in simple English, what a turbo surge is? And also anti-lag, too? I'm confused right now, and I'm looking both of them up right now, and i am not getting really simple results.
It's not necessarily air is flowing back out. It's just when the compressor cannot compress the air any more, so the compressor wheel stalls out. Then, when the boost drops a little after the compressor stalls, it spools up again.
I already started a thread where I got confused with turbo stuff, so this is a sequel. When a turbocharged car has an anti-lag system, why does it backfire whenever you let off the gas?
The answer is that anti-lag frequently operates by using the turbo chamber and manifold as a temporary combustion chamber. This generates the heat required to keep the turbo spinning, but does so with no valves to deaden the sound. Hence it coughs and bangs and pops as the fuel ignites relatively uncontrollably throughout the exhaust.
It's a nasty dirty bodge really. There is no elegance or engineering prowess in the solution. Rally cars can get away with it because they change the exhausts every 16 metres. A road exhaust would be destroyed pretty quickly unless massively over-strong.
With a lot of high performance cars, racing cars you do get a lot of banging when the throttle is closed (on the 'overrun'), this is because for more power and cooling these engines are often run quite rich, and so when the throttle is closed for a gear change a lot of excess fuel is deumped into the exhaust causing the bang.
I guess as turbos ram a lot more air into the combustion chamber, more fuel is needed to tget the mixture right, so more gets dumped into the exhaust, and so more banging on gearshifts.
I don't know if anti-lag has anything to do with it.
BTW people. I found out by not by google, but a guy on youtube had to help me. That is pretty low of you guys. Klutch actually told me last time, instead of blasting your comments in my face. No offense, but that was so not cool of you guys.
also, why are you against me? what did I do to you? I am confused dude. Why? Your little quote under your message has something that I said, and you keep giving me a bunch of your shit. Why dude?
WTF are you on about? It's low of people here because you couldn't be arsed to do a little research of your own first? I though you got a couple of pretty good answers early in this thread anyway.
I imagine some people are against you because you spam the crap out of these forums with endless crappy topics.
(and anyone who refers to racing as "Gripping" is instantly regarded as a bit of a ***t)
it's not grip racing, i know. It's racing. I hate my name on here, but I can't do anything about it now. also, ok. I will stop posting new threads for a while. I am just getting frustrated over everyone always saying how suckish I am. I don't like it, and everyone else hates me. So, I'm done.
can a mod person close this? everyone is right. I do make usky threads. But I don't at the same time. I made like two threads usefull. This is off topic people! Comeon! Cut me some slack!! There are FAAARRRR more useless threads (but this one on a scale to 1 to 10 of it's badness, maybe it hits a 10.5 or 11), so it's ok! Just relax, laugh at me, and reply to what the topic says! Don't always try to find ways to hold me back. Don't try to find ways to hold anybody back. Go WITH the flow of the thread. And if you have something to say, rather keep it to yourself. Anyway, the reason why a car with an anti-lag turbo system backfires a lot is because all the unburned fuel that is instantly rushed out of the engine then touches the host exhaust pipe, thus creating an explosion, and creates the backfire.
Christ, this thread would be long gone if 10 odd other people didn't post the same thing they posted in the last thread.
Do you not understand that by posting these reply you are a)keeping the thread at the top of the forum so it will 'annoy' you to the point of making angry replies. b)You're giving thread maker undeserved attention, encouraging them to carry on making threads. The best way to end a silly question is with a sensible answer (or at least try to), then it will go away and stop utterly ruining your lives (the way you go on, it seems like it does).
Next time you see a thread you dislike, press the 'report post' button, and then hopefully the magical admin fairies will come along and take away the source of your crippling annoyance.
I sometimes wonder wether its the subject matter or the person posting the thread that decides wether threads are considered 'crappy'.
As for you GrIp, I'm afraid this forum is full of kantankerous old men, please try to be easy on them, they evidently have short fuses.
So i'll just keep this thread up the top of the forum so that you can all bitch here some more.
