confusion with a turbo

Quote from 5haz :Christ, this thread would be long gone if 10 odd other people didn't post the same thing they posted in the last thread.

Do you not understand that by posting these reply you are a)keeping the thread at the top of the forum so it will 'annoy' you to the point of making angry replies. b)You're giving thread maker undeserved attention, encouraging them to carry on making threads. The best way to end a silly question is with a sensible answer (or at least try to), then it will go away and stop utterly ruining your lives (the way you go on, it seems like it does).

Next time you see a thread you dislike, press the 'report post' button, and then hopefully the magical admin fairies will come along and take away the source of your crippling annoyance.

I sometimes wonder wether its the subject matter or the person posting the thread that decides wether threads are considered 'crappy'.

As for you GrIp, I'm afraid this forum is full of kantankerous old men, please try to be easy on them, they evidently have short fuses.

So i'll just keep this thread up the top of the forum so that you can all bitch here some more.

ok. totally understand. i will still reply, but I'm not going to start new threads in a while. The bad thing is I just came up with a new thread idea. I'll juat restart this thread then. here I go:

What would you rather have on a car; a turbocharger, or a supercharger?

For me, it depends on what engine. A supercharger is brilliant with a V8 to V10, but turbos fit with any engine. So, it depends.

Also people, let's clean up this thread, and start out fresh. Please no more saying, "Grip your thread here sucks," because me and some people are starting to get a little bit irritated. So, let's just forget about all the other threads that didn't go so well that I started, and just have a nice, good, clean, worth reading, and friendly replies here. Sound good to you?

NOTE: Oh yeah, don't ask this question in the Nitto Legends forum. Everyone there is a complete idiot. In the game Nitto, the supercharger always overpowers the turbos. So the game Nitto Legends is considered the gayesy game ever played. Trust me!
In order of preference:

Normally aspirated
Supercharged
Walking
Buses
Dragging myself along with my lips
Being dragged along by a rabid dog
Turbocharging

Superchargers are not especially brilliant with V8s or V10s. The configuration of the V (if indeed it is a V) has pretty much nothing to do with it.
But superchargers don't have mad tyte JDM BOVzzz!!!!
Nice to see another Grip Driver thread has managed to stay on topic.
Quote from Christopher Raemisch :If you do as people say and search everything before posting we would have one dull OT section...

Tristan is right. I have already had to replace my cat. because of this...

De-cat it

that way you dont have to keep buying new ones
I'd be more inclined to say turbocharged engines are better with more cylinders...
Faster spooling, usually more power.

Where as superchargers can add a bit of oomph to your little 4cylinder without the lag
Amount of cylinders really doesn't have much to do with forced induction, I don't think.
Quote from wheel4hummer :Amount of cylinders really doesn't have much to do with forced induction, I don't think.

it doesn't. you are right. Ammount of cylinders has nothing to do with induction. Just to me, a supercharger with a V8 sound the best to me.

♣ <---- i got that from a different website. just wanted to see if it would work.

More torque = Faster spooling afaik

its why putting a massive turbo on a V8 can work, where as putting a massive turbo on a small 4cyl has trouble spooling it.

wow! never knew that!

lol not another one
i knew someone that put a truck turbo on a 4cyl and used nos to spool it but forgot to hook up the actuator and it blew a hole in the side of the block about right after starting it and nosing it. i think the explosion destoryed the piston and the conrod went through the side of the block tbh

well, did it hit anyone? like this video, a piston blew out of a bike engine.

WARNING!! IT IS GRAPHIC!!

Quote from hrtburnout :Sorry or not, you're still a post whore. I mean, you posted twenty threads in one month. Most of them are complete nonsense.

As Victor once said: "You have a brain, you know. Use it."

me waits for "apology to the community I spammed" thread.

which would be swiftly followed by the "i declare I will stop spamming" annoucement thread.
Quote from zeugnimod :Step to the side.

ding ding! you got it. another one would be you move, you avoid it, or get out of the way.
I facepalmed multiple times reading this thread.

This thread is why I could never run a forum.

really? anyway, what would you rather have on a car. a turbo, or a supercharger?

Quote from Klutch :More torque = Faster spooling afaik

Not really. Anyway, amount of cylinders has little to do with amount of torque, or RPM at which there is peak torque. There are four cylinder gasoline engines with peak torque at 2400RPM btw.

Quote from Klutch :its why putting a massive turbo on a V8 can work, where as putting a massive turbo on a small 4cyl has trouble spooling it.

No, it's because V8's generally have larger displacement then four cylinder engines, so there is more air flow through the engine. Meaning more fuel, and more exhaust to spin the turbine.
That's why you generally get smaller turbos on little 4cyl's because unless they're at 4000 or 5000rpm they can't generate any boost.
Quote from S14 DRIFT :That's why you generally get smaller turbos on little 4cyl's because unless they're at 4000 or 5000rpm they can't generate any boost.

Well, smaller engines in general. Amount of cylinders has nothing to do with it. There are six cylinder engines that are smaller then four cylinder engines, eight cylinder engines which are smaller then eight cylinder engines, etc.
Yeah, I was talking in general regards about smaller engines.
A turbo is matched to an engine. There are turbos available for tiny engines and huge ones. Only a special kind of moron fits a bigger turbo to an engine without looking at flow and energy characteristics. These types of moron can be found at cruises and/or reading max power magazines.
