And of course as an moderator you have an endless amount of time to philosophize about pros and cons of closing a (shitty) thread. Maybe we should implement a poll for every mod decision so you can influence the result with what you deem the perfect decision and can live happily thereafter with your democratic result. Wait, did I mention democracy? I totally forgot that this doesn't apply in the slightest to this forum.

Seriously, if there is a problem with a mod's decision then it is in the end up to Victor to sort it out. If he or the other mods don't have a problem with it, then that's that, end of discussion. No amount of what-ifs and should-haves are going to change anything, so you can keep your backseat modding to yourself. It's always easy yapping from the cheap rows analysing someone else's doing after the fact.
Quote from The Very End :it would be nice with a lock and removing of some insanely retarded comments. Like, "in before the lock" comments are really bothering.

welcome to the internet... i think the only way to stop this 4-chan meme BS would be to start banning or suspending forum accounts...

i agree with you though... this meme shit has gone on for WAY WAY WAY too long... EVERY forum i go to has some form of this garbage... but the only way to get rid of it is to let everyone know that we find it unacceptable.

either that, or we form our own forum...
Quote from danthebangerboy :it was basically a two word game, one person says two words, the next person adds two more, and it makes one long story.

The off topic forum is for stuff that doesn't fit in with the rest of the forum i.e. LFS. What people seem to do is associate OT with "spam as much crap as you like", which it is not.
but what can be spam for one person might be not for others

believe it or not all the people i know think im an intelligent normal person, because i dont tell these weird things that come to my mind but i love so much forums cause i can express myself freely and tell what i really think without consecuences, just some bashing that goes nowhere

some people see me as a spammer others even took the time to put my ideas together for being at least original

seems thers no mid point with me im hated or loved but i dont think some things that have never been posted on the net can be considered spam

for example i say that the reptilians alien are the good ones and the nordic the bad ones, you wont find this anywhere on the net, if i said what everybody else say it would be spam but being original and avoguing for not determining how good somone is by his race has even a good heart behind, so something totally original like many of mine cant be spam
Yet another comprehensible post by our very own lerts.

However, in your case, it's boderline spam because you (nearly always!) go off topic with your "stuff".

FWIW just because it's "original", it does not automatically become "good" or "non stupid". Maybe keep that in mind next time you post about crispy bikes and the like.

Obviously, we all know what spam is, but i don't thing that particular thread contained any actual spam so to speak, some silly comments yes, but they were kind of on topic, ie, two word answers, which was the whole point of the thread. I like joining in on little games like that as it's fun, maybe it's just me.
I have nothing worthwhile to add to this thread, but I thought I would post anyway.
How edgy
Um, I'm telling. Everyone, Becky's misbehaving!! *joke*

omg u post whore omg report!1111/
Quote from danthebangerboy :Obviously, we all know what spam is

You've just demonstrated that you don't, in my opinion.

Just because the posts within a thread are on topic, doesn't make the entire less any less spam-y.
Quote from lerts :but what can be spam for one person might be not for others

Well spoken there, but again, that can be discussed forever.. People have different looks on things, but again that's back to human nature so nothing to do with it.

But generally we can agree that posts like "in before the lock" and such are spam, but I wouldn't call your post spam, just a very..erhm original way to look on things. The thing S14 says too is that going off topic from a subject can be called spam aswell, since it might not have nothing to do with the topic itself.

I am surprised we actually have a quite good dicussion here that don't fall down to person offendig message or who's the bigger idiot compared to the other idiot.

But, point is, even if it's hard - even if one person starts spamming or posting very off topic in a topic doesn't mean it's free for all. Ignoring the silly post and continue onwards would be a great thing, instead of everyone going apeshit and downwards since someone thought it was ok.
So you can't have a laugh and a joke with people anymore, because its regarded as spam now??

OK then, just so i know.

Anyway, back on topic.
Quote from the_angry_angel :Just because the posts within a thread are on topic, doesn't make the entire less any less spam-y.

When I talk to a friend out in the big wide real world one of the things that happens is the conversation goes off all over the place and I forget what I was originally talking about, this typically happens to me within 3 sentences because i'm clinically insane, but for normal people it happens too (at a slower rate).

I view topics on the forum as much the same, we can keep things formal and organised and neatly stored in their forum categories if that is the rule of the forum - but personally I abhore sturcture and orderliness, they are fascists ideals. I'm a scatty creative and i'll let the flow of the conversation go wherever it wants and I think that brings out the best discourse.

To me topic titles serve only as a meens of identifying a post that i've already posted in, and I accept that a postee or late-joiner to the thread has the right to return to this original topic at any time, meenwhile i'm happy to discuss the merits of Jaffa Cakes versus Jammy Dodgers with my friends - because although out in the real world I dont know most of you guys and have only met about 25 or so of you, most of you i'd happily sit for a drink with in the pub with and put the world to rights over the merits of Jaffa Cakes versus Jammy Dodgers, and most of you would be welcome in my home for a cup of coffee, where Jammy Dodgers are in poor supply due to their lifespan being equal to their date of purchase.
@Becky.
I think you posted in the wrong thread.
The Jaffa cakes vs others thread is strangely called "race center event"
Please keep you off topicness to the corresponding thread, else it makes the search function useless.
Quote from Becky Rose :I view topics on the forum as much the same

As do I (and I'm sure if you search back through my post history you'll see I've said that in the past more than once), but I fail to see how you'd have a conversation in real life where you each say 2 words to complete a story, outside of a primary school or a pub where you are insanely drunk.

Quote from Becky Rose :they are fascists ideals

Ouch?

I have the fear that you believe that I've been refering to this very thread, where as I've been loosely refering to any one of the mountains of bollocks from off topic.
@Mille: *big grin* nicely done.

Quote :I have the fear that you believe that I've been refering to this very thread, where as I've been loosely refering to any one of the mountains of bollocks from off topic.

er no, I wasnt referring explicitly to any bug bear or itch from a previous post. You forget how in the moment us nutters tend to be, I cant remember what you've said and havnt, I was just saying.
While we talk about dicsussion I canot remember one conversation that stayed "on topic" in real life for more than a minute, MAX! Usually someone starts talking about something they experienced and then the dicsussion turns out in that direction. The same happend on forum, people write what falls into their mind and starts discussing that. Not much we / you really can do it, or you can of course punish us for it.

OH PLEASE GOD PUNISH ME!! OH YEAH BIG BOY SPANK ME OH YEAH!!
:o

Wrong thread, TVE.

All of the spin-off things and "on topic off topic stuff", rather than the completely off topic drabble we sometimes get, makes the forum nicer. If you have to stick completely to one topic a thread will die fairly quickly.

In Soviet Russia, off topic finds YOU
A topic doesn't nessesarly need to stay 100% topic to continueing living a good life, the problem is when it turns out shit, and by shit I mean 4 chan shit, in before the lock shit, who's jailbait is nicest shit and such, or for that matter, personal drama witch is my favorite. Wonder how many topic's that have been deleted because of personal fights, and I would give a moderator a handjob for having a sneek peak into the deleted topic part of the forum.
^ Too much information there.

How much off-topicness is acceptable for a thread is up to the mod who decides whether to close the thread or not, I don't see what the big problem is here? If you don't agree with the closure then you're SOL.
I don't even know what SOL is

Neverthless, of course it's up to the mod himself to deside if the topic should live or not, but if he is in a bad mood he shouldn't make judgements out by that reason alone. Moderators judging out by their personal mood is the worst kind there is, and I can't stand (I am not refering to this forum) moderators that spreads shit or goes into a all offencive / lock happy stance just because they got a shitty day.
That's why it's usually more moderators, so the one with a shitty day can do something else than mdoerating the forum that day.

Edit : How the hell I'm suposed to know what a SOL is when there's like 100's different meaning for the same thing :/ Guess it's out of luck thingy in this case.

Edit 2 : What the hell, Solenoid? Now I am even more confused
Quote from the_angry_angel : I've been loosely refering to any one of the mountains of bollocks from off topic.

See this is what some may like to call a grey area. In your opinion that thread was entirely made of spam, whereas other people, me for example, thought it was a quite light hearted word game, which sadly got spammed, but then got better by itself with no intervention. I have seen word association games before as they are something that is common place on other forums, something to do when you are bored for example.

I guess we can agree to disagree on that point.

I don't want to break this thread, so i'll shut up now and get back to the topic.....

Moderators. I think we have enough mods, if we need them all we need to do is hit the report button, usually a post from a moderator in the offending thread along the lines of 'come on guys, tone it down a bit eh.' is enough to stop things spiralling put of control, unless there is a mass flame war taking place, in which case threads deserve to be locked.

WOW! LOL!
