Mirrors Edge - Thoughts?
I just finished playing this game (yes it is quite short, but i still enjoyed it)

And i was wondering if anyone else in the community had given it a go?
Short, frustrating, buggy, but it would make a pretty good film if they fleshed out the story slightly. I didn't actually like the whole first person thing, and I played through the game without using guns, so that meant running around the same level for 20 minutes luring out 1 enemy at a time to fight. I completed it, did some time trials, then didn't play it again. All of that was in one weekend, so I would say it's a great game to rent, but not buy.

i played the PC version, and the bugs everyone keeps talking about seemed to be non existant *shrug* By the time the game was released tho, there was already a PhysX patch (heh) available for it, maybe that made a difference. I haven't played the console version.

Yeah it was short, however i like the concept, and i've found myself time trialing online, and wanting to find quicker routes etc
It's quite short, apparently (Haven't finished the game myself though)

I loved it, it's a great concept. Once you get used to the controls and the camera (under one hour for the average gamer), it's pretty good. Some frustrating times when you need to get to a really difficult section, or when you have no idea of where to go, but I guess that adds to the challenge. Get it on a 7 day rent and that's probably your best bet.
The bugs I mention are in the controls, sometimes it will simply fail to recognise objects, so you think you are telling it to do a wallrun then grab a ledge, and it thinks you just want to jump at the wall and fall to your death.

You can repeat the exact same control inputs on the same obstacle 5 times and get 5 different outcomes. That or you get stuck trying to jump onto a box that is at eye level because the game doesn't think you should be using it, but you have to use it to get close to the best times on time trials, not to mention having to learn the several exploits that speed you up which are all very annoying and hard to master.
Its the best game i ahve on my ps3.
I love the concept, the only problem is the shortness of the game.
Luckily you can speedrun the game with an integrated timer, and that CAN keep ya playing for a while.
Played, good game overall, finished it, need a new game.
Only played the demo, but it seemed too frustrating to warrant purchasing the full version.
Quote from danowat :it seemed too frustrating to warrant purchasing the full version.

eh? that frustration is exactly what makes the game worth playing
I am quited stunned about the possibilities, and graphics. Altough PhysX runs crap on ATI cards . I do find it frustrating and hard sometimes, but it it great fun!
Tried only the demo on PS3, the controlls were hard and the game was not easy, at some part even in the demo it was frustrating But at same time very rewarding to manage it after x number of tries.

The graphic is relly really good IMO. Maybe it ain't got the amounts of detail as the other new games out there, but it's so damn CLEAN! The last game that has this awesome clean graphic was Serious Sam, specially Second Encounter. I don't like Gears Of War graphic, maybe it's good, but it looks crap. Too dark, and you almost gets depressed after running around in a dead city after some time with those graphics. In games like SS and ME the graphic is awesome, clean and "tidy", and it's a joy to both play it and look on it.
I finished the game a few days ago, took me less than a weekend but I enjoyed it. I didn't find any bugs, anytime I fell to my death was my own fault.

Worth a rent for sure, I can't really see this game lasting anyone more than a week though.

Money well spent

its fun, and it does look quite good
Stupid thing didn't even start up Just got a rectangular picture of Faith and a white city backdrop for about 15 minutes and then a black screen. Deleted after the 3rd time and went back to F3 where i belong

Sueycide - you probably had the same problem i did, but you monitor doesn't have the ability to tell you. It tries to start after first install at 1600x1200 75hz (which my CRT won't handle, its a widescreen res, and at the refresh rate, too high for it. I will post u the info that helped me, then maybe you can give it a go.

This info from the EA forums

If you have Windows Vista: Locate the file C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\tdEngine.ini

If you have Windows XP Locate the file My documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\tdEngine.ini

Open tdEngine.ini with a text editor such as Notepad.

You will see some lines such as:

ResX=1024
ResY=768

Just change those variables and you should be ok.

That SHOULD solve ur prob (i'd bet) ALSO MAKE SURE U HAVE THE PC PATCH INSTALLED, AND THE LATEST GFX CARD DRIVERS
I bought it, played it for about 20 minutes, felt queasy and took a break for an hour. Then played it another 30 minutes, puked my guts out and returned it.

Awesome game, love the concept, but I can't stomach it.
Played through it on a mates PS3, which took two afternoons (so 4-5 hours) but only because it's very trial and error dependant. I think a clean run could be done in less than two hours without using any speedrun exploits.

And I was very disappointed with it. The story is bad on an almost unbelievable level. And the novelty of the game wears of after two or three levels, which make the story didn't thrill enough to explore it further.

Also, I didn't like that later in game the gameplay took a serious turn from acrobatics to combat and became even more linear. (allthough the different routes being either to jump over or dive under the very same obstacle were somewhat of a joke anyway)

All in all a brave try at something new that could have done so much things a lot better.
I'd rate it 6.5 on a scale of 10

try the time trials... thats where the real fun is imho

Okay will try later. Thanks
It's a good game, although too linear and I didn't like the indoorsy platformy bollocks. Or the combat. Basically the same as everyone else, really. Here's hoping ME2 will be free roam-ish
Time Trial Pack: Now Available
Just thought I'd let you all know that the Time Trial pack is now available on the Xbox Marketplace. If I'm right, it should also be on PSN.
