A bit of old news but I found this out recently and I didn't see a post on it. Since I heard nothing about it I doubt Salo got in. But 2009 is a very extreme preseason anyway

Even Regan Smith, rookie of the year with no DNFs, lost a full time ride..:yikes:

Of course if the economy calms down and NASCAR becomes much more stable, I'd say Salo has a good chance to be in NASCAR 2010 or 2011.

Interesting to say that Salo and Jarno Trulli are both mildy interested in NASCAR

Fittipaldi's original fail, Montoya's move, Villeneuve's fail, and more recently Edward's victory of Schumi has really pushed NASCAR in the spot light. But of course Indy is rising too with Conway signing for Indy (a mistake imo since he has no experience on the oval). It seems people are more willing to cross disciplines and be open minded than before (of course schumi will be schumi...)

Well Villeneuve still trys his best to enter NASCAR since 2007. He has turned down an offer from DTM, Le Mans and Aussie V8 Series, which are all one of the highest levels of Motorsports. Coulthard also publicly mentioned he has interest and Salo but the problem is getting into NASCAR is harder then it looks. It doesnt matter what you have won before, Villeneuve has won Indycar, Indy 500, F1 WDC, second in Le Mans, but if you dont have experience in stockcar racing its hard to get a ride.

Salo was a relatively uncompetitive F1 driver who is now well past his sell by date in motorsport. It therefore makes sense to go to the great Motorsport Graveyard called NASCAR, where people go in a bid to make their careers last longer.

That they can be competitive gives you an indication of the quality of the other drivers.

Apparently it takes a lot of skill!

Wow.....ignorant + stupidity. Haven't seen that in a while tbh. But excuse me? Competitive? Since when have the recent "outsiders" every been competitive? Only exception is Montoya winning a road course race...not even a single oval win at that. Fittipaldi couldn't handle his car, Villeneuve crashed out in qualifying, QUALIFYING, Fukuyama never finished better than 39th, and Carpentier is out of a ride

The only "outsider" who was competitive was Tony Steward but steward's from Indy (ovals anyways) and Marcos Ambrose. But Ambrose is hardly the "over the top driver".

So I just did a google search to see if there were any newer stories about this(to try and be on topic and all) and the first thing that popped up was this very thread that was just created this morning. The internet amazes me some times.

All your replies re. me have been flames Lizardfondler. I don't mind of course, but perhaps you need to remind yourself what constitutes a flame?

These ex-F1 drivers think they can breeze in and win against people who have been doing it on ovals since they were old enough to get a drivers liscense.

Uhh....no.

Flaming as described in wordnet.princeton: fiery: very intense; "a fiery temper"; "flaming passions". I fail to see the "extreme fiery passion" in my post that is so prevalent in other known flames. For example, when I lost my cool around 2007 and started posting a passionate content such as

Also, please note the capital lettering of the words "any" and "damage". I was clearly angry about that and my vocabulary indicates heavy sarcasm as clearly indicated by the quotations. This is a very common way to implement sarcasm and generally this post is a very common example of a flame (i'll be it a mild one compared to ones on Counterstrike and Halo)

I won my first oval race at age 8. Most Nascar guys start in 1/4 midgets and go-karts even earlier than I did.

But it's still fun to see these guys try. I mean, the whole world talks about how good they are and how much 'better' open wheel racing is. The way some people talk about oval racers, you'd think they were talking about the Duke boys.

Although sometimes it isn't really just the oval thing. The whole North v. South thing is still around (and I see it here in upstate New York). When I talk to people about NASCAR the automatic response is an intense bashing.

However, bring up IndyCar or ARCA and I normally get silence or shrugs from my peers

This is what I am saying...I know that this is old news. I know Salo probably didnt get anything considering that this news is kinda buried. But there's no thread on it and I wanted to know people's thoughts

Talking about Salo (and other useless F1 drivers), there's an interesting battle going on at the Arctic Lapland Rally.

Salo confirmed on an interview for Finnish television channel MTV3 that there has been negotiations for a driver seat for Nascar and he is still waiting for an answer. If he doesn't get a deal, he will be driving American Le Mans series with Ferrari like the past two years.
