Formula rear end spin
I've gone through several posts here . . . downloaded and installed the "easy" setups . . . but nothing seems to work. This can't be realistic. The throttle is super sensitive and brakes are just wipping me around every corner. I turned down the acceleration/brake sensitivity in the options panel, and that helped, but I can barely make it through a lap.

Sorry, but there's something wrong here. I've played every sim out there, GPL, GTL, GTR, F1C, RBR, etc. and none of those are as sensitive as this.

Am I just missing something here, or is this just wrong?

Sure hope there's some improvement in the patch. And hope the BMW won't drive like the formula cars. The thing is, I can handle the two smaller single seaters, just not the formula.

Ok, I just found this thread:

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=5534

so stuff in there may help a bit.

But my question is . . . is this right? Never driven a formula car, but watched tons of races and it doesn't look like throttle contol is this sensitive for them?

Use the Easy setups,
Dont bury the throttle on the first gear,
Try to avoid accelerating/braking and turning at the same time,
Brake before the corner,
Accelerate out of the corner
Dont whip the wheel around like crazy...

Oh, and if you dont have a wheel... well there is most of the problem right there :P

You may also want to play with the "Brake/Throttle reduction to center"-slider... This can make a big difference, but as thisnameistaken said, tire and downforce-physics are a little bit weird right now, but this will be resolved in the new patch (in 3 days)...

Thanks guys. I'll wait for Friday and see if it's better.

Quote from thisnameistaken :incredibly bloody frustrating

Those were the words I was looking for.
trust me you soon get used to it and soon dont notice it, just stick to a track you know well and try try try again

Actually I couldn't believe your words when I first read your opinion. Oversteer? Sensetive on gas? Huh? In my opinion the FOX is very well behaved can take a whole lot of beating with the steering wheel and gas pedal without biting back.

Then I remembered how it felt when I was new to the FOX. And all of a sudden I understand your opinion. I remember myself thinking that it is impossible for a car to be so sensetive. Well, that obviously changed.

In other words: It needs practice.

Vain
got to agree with vain there ... the formulas are very stable well at least once your faster than about 80-100 and out of the low speed grip problem zone

do you use a wheel or some other kind of analog throttle/brakes ?
Keep in mind a formula1 car has traction control also, while the F08 doesnt. It's really not that difficult to drive once you get the hang of it though. Driving it fast is another matter though, and takes practice
Ok, I'll keep trying guys. And yes I use a Logitech Racing Force wheel.

never put the pedal to the metal. I still don't. Don't slam the brakes. On westhill(good fo8 test track) you only brake a few times, making it easy to learn. I'd start with a fox.
Dont worry, I only started 2 months or so ago and when I began I had trouble, but tonight I did a few races earlier from the back of a full grid on the Fox at SO Classic where I made up 6 or more places before arriving at T1 just by pulling away better.

The key is listening to the wheelspin, you want to be teatering on the edge of it and not pointlessly spinning your wheels without traction.

You'll soon get the knack of the formula cars. The V8 is a bit of a beast but again once you figure it out ... actually heck, dont bother the patch on Friday will probably make it all for nothing ! Stick to Fox for now and worry about the beasty after the patch.

I still drive a lot in RBR and in that sim your always 25-50% throttle, so I know how to take it easy, but in this sim if I hit anything more than 20% throttle in first gear the wheels spin. That just can't be realistic. I know these cars have power, but that's too sensitive.

I'll stick to the FOX for now. Drives great and I'm loving the physics.

'cause there's no launch control.
^^ what he said.

If your that bothered by the rear wheel spins, just make your first gear longer. I would advise a 1.400 around that mark for a non wheelspinning setup. However, the final drive ratio will make a difference as well, i'd advise about 4.100+ wouldn't go over the .2 mark though.

Lap times will be affected greatly, so if i'm being perfectly honest, just stick with the burn out. And try to get used to it, however even on the most touchiest of setups i haven't had the rear wheels spinning at 20% throttle Or anywhere near that mark, about 50% i get wheelspin.

Also, the autoclutch in all honesty is somewhat primitive. wack your foot down and the clutch just lets up (do that in a car IRL with enuf revs and ur gonna wheelspin like crazy). Lots of contributing factors, but the patch is going to address the majority of the issues.

Stick with the FOX as well till you gain your bearings and if you want more of a challenge give the v8 a try (or soon to be F1 )
Ok a lot of this advice is starting to help. I'm going through some of the more problem corners in higher gears so that's helping. I have another problem though . . . I can't stop doing laps to try and improve my time. This game is going to take too much of my time. What should I do?
