Handicap Grid Starting System
Well, nothing important suggestion, maybe just for fun with testing 1 lap skills, and maybe suggested before but I am so interested about this.

So, I explain you, maybe some of one have known this already:

Let we have 4 cars. They can be:

XF GTi (XFG)
XR GT Turbo (XRT)
FZ50 (FZ5)
FXO GTR (FXR)

Track: Aston National for example

Starting System:

XFG Starts: When lights glow green
XRT Starts: 10 sec after XFG
FZ5 Starts: 8 sec after XRT
FXR Starts: 12 sec after FZ5

And what is next then?

XF GTi car tries to defense his lead to come 1st at one lap race. FXO GTR tries in other hand to get in first place at finish line. The idea is that Gap - between first and last car, is small, and if want getting harder, then larger gap between time of start. Of Course, all 4 cars tries to finish first place.

What idea is this?

Well, this improves your driving skill at only one lap (can be 2 or more of course). This is also a very quite fun and also, you can got exciting!

How this would work?

There would be a configuration option, when doing a server, you can choose: Handicap Starting Grid: YES / NO . Then only Max. 8 drivers is allowed, and you can choose, what car you want drive. Server administrators would have at command lines also, for example:

/gap1=10 (seconds) = XF GTi - XR GT Turbo (XRT starts with his own start lights at 10 seconds after XFG)
/gap2=10 etc...
/gap3=8 ...

How to set it?

Well, when Handicap Starting Grid: YES is allowed, there would be a little icon or next page of starting a server, you can choose what cars is allowed and how much gap they each have. You can select any car to GAP, just select gap one and then car

Well, this would work in single player with AI drivers, but it is alot fun in multiplayer.

Well, the driver's position of each car, when joining race at entry, if for example, I want choose FZ50, I automatically get position 3 , and he/she who chooses XF GTi, is automatically putted Position 1. there would be an option also: Can use same car: YES/NO. if choosing same car, if he/she is joining 2nd of the race with same car who somebody has already, it can be putted behind of 1st same car, and they starts at same time of course.

It can also be that there would be 2 of FZR's and 2 of FO8's in Kyoto RIng Oval. With teamwork you have to draft each other to get more speed and defensing a victory. With counting gap correctly, you can still get tight races and huge fight to Turn 3 in Oval. How you would imagine that?

+ & -

+ Good and exciting racing
+ Testing your skills
+ Gap System would work
+ With InSim perhaps, can edit the system a bit
+ Any car in any track is possible

- Have not tested
- Not all people know perfectly what car is faster
- Improveing it have alot work to do
- Have to improve grid system

+/- INSIM SYSTEM?

I hope that this is possible at someday, but please, tell your opinions about this

EDIT: Ok, I realized that it is possible already, but not in that case if have to make grid, which all cars could be at left or right side of track, at now it is possible only default grid, and cars are then standing dangerously middle of track. So, first should have to improve some kind of this grid

(and please, don't say if this is suggested before, because I watched all similar threads but those didn't told about my suggestion. Thank You!)

Well, it could be done via a magical InSim server mod.

But I think it would be a pain in the ass to balance, as the time differences vary with each track.
i think it would be more sueful as a system to use in multi class with the fastest going first because it would help stop different classes getting messed up at t1 etc and give accident chance to clear if the starts were staggered a bit
I think it's a pretty good idea and could be modified to allow both handicapped and staggered starts (which would actually be different).

Handicapped starts would be more or less as it was described in the OP. The numbers might need changing depending on the cars. There'd need to be a fixed way of working out the faster car. Power:weight maybe? Fast cars at the end with the intention of balancing them out as much as possible. Probably more useful for short races.

Staggered starts would put the faster cars at the front to prevent them running into the slower cars immediately, like marathon runs are done. That would be more useful for longer or endurance races.

I imagine the same system could be used for both and has some merit. Definite +1 from me, at least as far as the concept goes.

Easy. LFS world knows how long it takes the average driver to move his [put car here] around [put track here].

But it's really something for InSim, isn't it?

lol exactly my thought

yea, would really work for insim.

Nice idea. +1 for insim
+/-0 for ingame
