Yeah, and the fact that you have limitied tries to login.
The only thing you can do is hope that the guy gives up. And if your password is very simple, change it to something complex, just in case.

Sorry for sounding a bit thick but does the IP address bear any relevence, and would I be correct in thinking that IP addresses change everytime you connect? If so how would you go about using that information to resolve the issue?
My i.p doesnt change everytime i log in :\

Not really. An IP address can give an approximate geographical location of the user. Your IP can change if you have a dynamic IP, whereby your ISP provide you a new one every now and again but it will again be an IP quite near to your location, but not exact enough to go knock on the persons door, its usually <50 miles or so. (i'm near cambridge and my IP is now a london H9 postcode)

To find a rough location of an IP (particularly useful if you suspect scams or spams.) Or if you just want to know how far away your IP is compared to where you live ( i ended up being assigned a manchester IP last week, it was sloooow) you can do it here.

As the OP says, the IP from which the unsuccessful login attempts were made from comes back to somewhere close to the city of bratislava in slovakia.

The only way a users real IP is untraceable (or false) is if he or she is using a proxy server to route their connection through, thus hiding their true IP and geographical location, from this proxy server, they can select an IP from a list of sometimes hundreds to use from pretty much any country in the world, and they can also change it whenever they want. Some people do this to send spam, or to choose an IP from somewhere that allows them to watch stuff like youtube videos that are banned in their own country.

That's not my IP as far as I know :P
Everybodys is different, so even your next door neighbours IP will probably be nothing like yours as they are not sequential or anything.
Ive changed my password to somthin hard to guess hopefull this dont happen again.. Atleast they didnt get to log on
When and if i change a PW, i open up notepad, press loads of buttons on the keyboard really fast, delete any characters that don't work in passwords and shorten it so it is the maximum length allowed, and use what digits are left as my PW. Unguessable, and as random as you can get.

I usually save this randomness in notepad and hide the file somewhere for when my browser forgets it after i clear my temp internet files, if i cant even remember it, then there aint much chance a hacker will guess it!
Cheers for tht, It will be pretty hard to guess anyway combo of numbers n words

It's an approximation because large portions of land are connected through common backbones, and each backbones has a range of IP's it assigns. I know there are 2 or 3 on the east coast that pretty much everyone connects through here, allowing people to get an approximate location but not have it be like the movies where you get an address. Certain types of internet are also dynamic or static; DSL has it's IP change every time you connect to the net whereas cable has a static IP for the most part.

Fun stuff. Just felt like adding my .02$

There's one way to get access to the user's geo-location/address though, if you were to have access to the ISPs customer's database and the user has a dynamic IP. Then they are linked.
But then again, ISPs only give access to this information in extreme cases. And not to the average Joe.

Whereas in Europe, DSL connections commonly use static IPs and most cable ISPs assign dynamic IPs every time the user connects.

Yeah, what he said ^

Besides, it's not all that uncommon.

there, fixed that for you.. .

Hehehehe My IP is 1373 km away from where I live

Gotta love Canada
My IP is about 4km from my home.
That map has me at Sheffield. I don't even live in England. Silly technology.
Mine's up near Leeds
Mine's been in London, I live approx 40 minutes or 45-50 miles from London so it's probably where the main servers are hosted for AOL in the South.
Mine shows as the yorkshire dales yet i live in stoke.
