Is it possible for the actual graphics engine to render the shadow of the car you are actually driving? I've noticed that it doesn¡t get rendered, and even if it's not that important, it wouldn't kill the immersion on sunset conditions. What do you guys think?
My work on adding transparent sunroofs by adding alpha-layers into the dds skins made the car shadows change. This I can only assume is because the shadows are ray-traced. So therefore are rendered on the fly.
Also some parts of the track have weird shadows which is probably because the rendering calculations gets a little bit borked.
I've always noticed that sunsets cause the car shadows to be elongated. Sometimes they get so long the track polygon edges truncate the shadows.
well you asked what us guys think, so there's my thoughts, TBH I really think they are rendered. What makes you think they aren't rendered?
The car shadows are only visible on non-shadowed surfaces at this point (unfortunately), which means when you're under a bridge/in a building's shadow you can't see your shadow.
Your car's shadow most definitely is rendered, though, and it does change dynamically with changing light.
Looks like you guys haven't noticed
Go drive at KY on sunset, with someone driving in front of you. As you go through the oval, on one of the two turns you'll se the car in front of you casting a shadow on the wall. Look at the wall (INCAR VIEW) and BU! no shadow there.
That's what I meant, you shadow is not rendered when you are using the cockpit view.
@MAGGOT and S14: Yes, there's a shadow update, wich consists in a new shadow, under your car. Your shadow is not casted on shadowed surfaces because it recieves no direct light. Since Z you can see the "ambient shadow" (as said by Scawen).
