Quote from S14 DRIFT :Looks like a groovy mid 90's disco scene! Me wanties.

Yes it is , in fact is based 10 years in the future from the Tron movie
One part in the game , you should go to a disco and the neon light are so cool
Well , all the game looks cool , they are some lvls they are stunning in combinated colors and great effect , the game is very good from My POV
Terra Nova - Strike Force Centauri. Loved the atmosphere, the incredibly big maps on several planets with totally different surfaces (you could fly over them with your jumpsuit), the way squad communication was implemented, the music (though it only was MIDI the tunes were great and addicting), the weather effects and day/night missions, the spy drones you could send out and - last but not least - that the amount of trees you destroyed during a session was presented to you when quitting the game.

I'm desperate for a sequel, but it won't happen.
As there are some old school titles mentioned here, I'd like to present my latest acquisition, a very well done "old school" RPG.

Eschalon

Captures the spirit of games like Ultima.

Also, right now, it's only 15.19 € when you buy it via steam as opposed to the 19.99 it would cost otherwise. Also, there's a demo if you want to try it out.
Quote from Woz :The first games I played were the likes of Pong, Invaders and Tank Command. First home PC game was 3d Monster Maze on ZX81

things have come a long way since ZX81 tape loading and ram pack wobbles

I started playing the likes of Civilisation, Prince of Persia, Railway Tycoon, (and some Golf game I can't remember the name of), etc back in the days of DOS. Then there were the text only games a long the lines of dungeons and draggons, where you had to find treasure and fight monsters. Amazing how involving they were when the only visuals you had to go on were what you created in your own head.
another underrated game is Rush 2049. I think I have said this, but man I still wish I had that! It was for the Nintendo 64. That game was so cool! I would always get that muscle car thing in the game, and when I would take a jump, I would make the wings go out, and do like 20 barrel rolls in the air. Man that game was FUUUUUNNNN!!!

OMG I REMEMBER THAT

You could like, make wings pop out so you could fly really far and stuff.. I had the demo on some console. I'd play it endlessly.

yeah. isn't it weird that some games today are starting to lose that? I miss all those games with the bad graphics, but really fun gameplay. Another game I LOVED to play was Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX. My favorite trick was the tailwhip backflip. that looked so cool! yeah, but the game is gone, and I can't find it anywhere . Man I sort of miss that game. Those were the good ol' days when my bro and I played together.
under rated game ? well you may have noticed the air attack LFS servers and wondered where the name comes from

Air Attack, WW2 flight sim that was the original version of fighter ace, still going online after 10 years despite being optimised for a P90 and a dial up connection and it has survived noves from uk to german to south korean servers to it's current home back with Ketsujin who run fighter ace.

details and game footage here

http://www.airattack.co.uk/portal/

why is it so popular still with such simple graphics and a simple flight model ? game play ! by being so simple it has allowed people to play n differing styles and has allowed organisers to come up with differing events ranging from 1 v1 and 2 v2 to 4 squad battles, air races and historical re enactments. 616 squadron named them selves after the squadron of johny johnson and douglas bader and used real life tactics as much as possible, their leader ended up being invited to meet the real life survivors.

also the game could suport up to 160 players in one arena even back in 1999 on dial up with little or no lag issues. when andy the leader of Zulu squadron (Zulu 9) was killed in a car crash in 2000, we organised a fly past with 160 planes in tribute, which actually got a mention and a screen shot published in the business section of "the times " and the devs surprised us when the next update was released by creating the " Zulu 9" memorial by the side of the GB runway. how do i remember ? he was my squadron leader and got me through a very sticky real life period.

in fact with such a strong community and gameplay being valued over flashy, air attack was / is very similar to LFS and also it's free having originally been provided by BT on a charge per minute played on your phone bill (which resulted in someplayers getting bills of over £600 a quarter in 1999 ! )on top of the per minute charge that was the common ISP business model back then. that people were prepared to run up and pay these costs tells you all you need to know about its appeal

Quote from Lible :That Tron 2.0 reminded me of something.

Armagetron Advanced
epicly big image

A free lightcycle game with brilliant multiplayer mode. Highly recommended. Not really underrated, just not well known.
