Unlocking without internet connection
Firstly: Hi all!

Secondly: I did a search, but can't find relevant info, so please don't flame if there was a thread on this already, rather post a link

Then:

I need to know if I can unlock LFS without a net connection. I only have internet at work, since I can't afford to have internet at home. South Africa is one of the most expensive countries in the world when it comes to connectivity and telecommunications, so basically there's no way I can get a connection soon.

I've been playing LFS offline, and I'm happy just practising at home, honing my skills until one day, far far into the future, I can afford to get online!
Unfortunatly I don't think you can, the only way for it to work would be to unlock it at work and take the unlocked LFS home, but even that won't work (I dont think) because I believe LFS is tied to the hardware that is was unlocked on.

Maybe lug your PC to work, unlock it and lug it home again?, not a pretty soloution, but it would work.

Dan,
As far as I know, it's impossible to unlock without an internetconnection.
The unlock procedure is a server based action.

Welcome
Maybe you have family or a friend with an internet connection? So you can take your PC there to unlock it?
Or if you know someone with mobile (GPRS/EDGE) or external Wifi connection, ask him, its minute to make dialup connection thru mobile at your place.

I think I figured it out!

Bluetooth adapter + GPRS Cellphone = Internet connection!

Anyone tried this before?

Thanks Pablo! Just figured it out myself as well!
should work fine, gprs is not the fastest internet connection available, but it's not much data going through the line when unlocking lfs. won't take you a minute i guess.

Yup, this is how I unlocked my S1 when I first went to uni back in 2003. Worked like a charm, as I couldn't get past the uni firewall, and things like HTTP Tunnel didn't help at all. Of course it meant I was stuck with offline driving at uni, but it helped improve my skills, and I had a decent number of hotlaps iirc.

Well, I just bought my license (a common thing in South Africa), now all that's left is to unlock the game, which I'll do tonight. And then sit at work tomorrow until the patch is released!!! Whooohooo!
