questions before I purchase
I was wondering before I drop money on this game and on a steering wheel and the such if this is the right game for me. My main question, is the game active? Will I be able to find all kinds of different racing from karts to nascar at anytime during the day/night? Is there lots of active racing events and leagues? Is the racing realistic? That is all for now, thanks! If this is a great very active racing game then I will see you all on soon!
yes to everything
There are no karts and no stock cars though :S. Get the demo, you get to see all the cars that you will be able to unlock when you get the full licence. The demo works online too so you can try it out. There are a lot of leagues with a very wide variety of cars and the online play is probably the best part of LFS.
Yeah, LFS is one of the best investment I made in terms of a game. I bought my license almost two years ago (wow time flies by...) and I never stopped enjoying it.
From what I have tried, it's the most realistic driving software. (more than Forza, the GT serie, etc).
The variety of cars is simply amazing. Sadly, it is not exhaustive yet, but i'm sure it will be. There are no karts at the moment, but you have the MRT which is the closest to a kart (it is a car made by the McGill racing team according to the FSAE serie specs, I'm sure you've heard of it so it's more like a mini single-seater). You also have got several open wheelers with different power/handling ranges. Finally, the tin-top/GT selection is very diverse, providing different kind of fun when you want .

There are no stockcars yet, but there is a tri-Oval track. The GTR cars seem to fit in perfectly to simulate stock car racing (especially the XRR that is a front-engined RWD with 490hp and 2200pounds).

There are lots of permanent servers that you can join which offer a very good support and racing. For the moment, I find the RSR and NDR servers pretty amazing ! You have Rallycross tracks, and support to make your own layouts (add objects to the tracks, so that you can build a rally track using the patches of dirt outside of the tracks). You can drift if you want as well and there are lots and lots of personnally owned drift servers. Some players like cruising (a kind of driving for fun game to unlock the cars - but it's just specific to these servers, otherwise you can drive any car you want on any trac you want at anytime you want ).

Trust me, for some dollars it's a great investment. Especially with the dollar/euro or dollar/pound exchange rate, you'll be really enjoying your product compared to the money spent
You've done no milage online.

Get out there on some Demo servers, do some racing, get a feel for it. Only you will know if you like it. If you like realism and not "cheapy feeling blingy cars that are unrealistic so they are easy to drive" then you will like LFS. Go and race some demo to see. FBM is a blast in some good demo racing servers. XFG is close racing and XRG is cool to.

LFS is quite active - despite the occasional person claiming it's dieing. They only think it's dying because they have to wait about 6 months for upgrades. Kids can't wait 5 minutes for things these days.

You don;t have to buy a wheel to test it either. I used a simple game pad for two years and still had amazing fun.

LFS is not finished 100% yet so it will only get better over the next few years.
Quote from 7SEALS :My main question, is the game active?

Yes.
Quote from 7SEALS :Will I be able to find all kinds of different racing from karts to nascar (...)

No. There are no karts or nascars in the game. There is oval racing to be found online, though.
Quote from 7SEALS :(...) at anytime during the day/night?

Seeing as you're in the US you may not find that many populated servers at any given time. Peak hours tend to be in the European evening hours.
Quote from 7SEALS :Is there lots of active racing events and leagues?

Yes, check the Leages Section.

Quote from 7SEALS :Is the racing realistic?

Yes, it's fairly realistic, though there's still a lot of room for improvement.

You don't have to spend money on a license before you can play online. Try out the demo online and see if you like it. There's plenty of demo servers.
You have to buy this sim, the best IMO.

well I find it useless to play the game online with a keyboard/mouse. I can't control the car worth a crap with the mouse lol. I am looking at the logitech G25 wheel/shifter/pedal setup.

after reading the wikipedia article it says they really don't support 3rd party mods for the game? Why is that? There would probably be nascar and kart racing and all other types of cars realistic and fake if there was allowed 3rd party mods

I'd suggest reading everything on the LFS main page. Very, very short version. LFS is made by 3 people, it's being made in 3 stages S1, S2 and finally S3 (not even worth talking about that as it's a long way off, years) we're on S2 now.

The game isn't finished, it's alpha and because of that 3rd party modding would get difficult as things change and would bring up compatibility issues. From time to time we get updates, we test them before they are released, one is coming soon (see all the muppets moaning about it in the other section).

Using real cars cost money, they have to pay the car makers.

I am living in the USA now (Seattle), and I think that around 8:00 PST (West Coast), there is a bunch of servers going online.

Moreover, don't forget the permanent servers (NDR and RSR provide GREAT experience)
Sometimes it's kinda hard to find good servers when you live in America. The peak times(I found out) are around 12:00pm - 6:00pm (EST of course...) And alot of times, the top couple of servers are drift servers, I kinda have it etched into my brain which circles representing the cars to blank out of my mind(the always present drift combo XD )
