Unreal Tournament 3 free this weekend on Steam
Too bad the retards started using euro as currency over here. Ok, it's logical but when prices are just converted with chancing the symbol from dollar to euro, the consumer really feels like he's being screwed up in the ass badly.

Makes no sense buying anything from Steam anymore.

I still pay in dollars (America) so I have no reason not to buy anything there

Well, this is the second free weekend for Unreal Tournament 3... Maybe they noticed not everyone could download 8GB and start playing in less than 3 days, so they repeated the free weekend this weekend and allowed preloading (I finished it already, just waiting to play )
So whats the difference between UT3 retail, and this UT3 Black version? anything at all?
UT3 is such a horrible game it should be free.
Lol, i loved the demo, i just never bought the game. Have done now though...
What was the selling point of UT3 again - more shaders, less game?

GTFO, die and enjoy ur budget cuts, gaming industry.

"Steamworks Achievements (with over 50 Achievements), plus a host of new features and enhancements in AI, Server Browsing, Demo Recording, Mod Support, and more."

It comes with PhysX, all patches, and as far as I know there are new weapons, levels/maps, characters/enemies, and some other improvements. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It is also possible to register the retail copy on steam to get the updates.

"To register your retail copy on Steam, simply click the main menu option 'Games' and select 'Activate a product on Steam' from within the Steam client."
Thanks
I've got it. Its basically UT2004 with a slightly different style (reminds me of gears of war, there's probably a good reason for that though). Same weapons, movement etc...if you've never played UT before, you'll love it.

By all means, definitely worth the £8.50something that its on offer for ATM.

P.S
Red Orchestra is realllyyyy cheap on Steam at the moment, and its worth every penny!
Free this weekend as 'I can download it a play forever' or free this weekend as 'Free for 2 days then it gets locked'?

The latter, but 3 days including today.

Been tempted to get this as i love WWII games and DoD really is quite crap. Although i dont know if my system will run RO as i've only got a 1.8ghz (athlon xp 2500) and 9600XT
Unreal Tournament 3 is just rubbish.

+1.

I'm playing the full game for free on Steam, and really, this is one of the games I would never install on my computer if it wasn't so easy and for free. Graphics aren't bad, the engine seems to be optimized-ish but there's just no objective in this game. All you need to do is run around killing anyone you see in front of you. I tried 5 different gamemodes, plus campaign, and I don't see that much difference between them. This game's got just no objective. I haven't played the "original" Unreal Tournament III, but this edition's got nothing interesting for me. It's all about killing everyone you can as fast as you can and before they can see you.
UT as always about killing everyone with no reason and capturing flags anyway. I wanted to download the thing on Steam and see if it was worth bu it seems like it's not.

UT 2003 FTW, the only UT that was good.
The original UT is still one of the most fun FPSes ever.

Which is what I did, I registered my retail (from at least a year ago) version on steam, and now I can download it anywhere, without needing a CD key, now if only I could get Bioshock to work that way, then I'd actually be in "heaven" with Steam having all my games at fast access without having to trawl throughout my bedroom looking for a disk.

EDIT: and why not, installing Red Orchestra too.

RO uses the UT2k4 engine, and you should...tbh...be able to run it reasonably well providing you turn off all the new fancy effects such as bloom and motion blur.

For that price it isn't much loss really anyway

Thats good to know. Price isn't really the issue its the fact that i keep buying games off steam when i currently don't have a job and want to buy a motorbike soon so every few dollars does hurt a little!
Ok, so I just played UT3 DM for the first time and aside from the graphics I'm not really sure how it could possibly be more similar to UT.
I dunno, I still find it fun, so long as I'm playing some sort of objective based game.. Deathmatch or CTF is not my specialty (as I suck at killing, but I am good at achieving stuff.)
This reminded me to re-install UT2004 again I haven't tried UT3 yet, but I think the whole series is very similar from what I've seen and heard. So I'll stick with UT2004
looks 3 feet to my left...

Grabs DVD... Contemplates...

Well, I guess I'm isntalling UT2004 too now.
