It's a 20 year old car, of course it's done some distance.
And 180k km is only 111k miles - mine has done 20k more than that and is still going strong.
Just over 182k miles on my 1987 plate E30. Starts on the button, doesn't burn oil and pulls to 135mph... if serviced right, they seem to just keep going
I understand you're excited about your first car but isnt a bit too much to write it in your signature like it was the new cool stuff? Its just a 500$ POS, really...
I think the newer, more modern engines are better than the older ones, but of course that's just my opinion. You always hear of the old Escort head-gasket going, for example - Modern engines are built with new technologies with more technology to tighter tolerances. I'd like to believe that something like a new Focus would be much more reliable than an equivalently powered Escort from 15 years ago.
My Saab 2.0T heavily modded and my baby, my VR6 GTI, also heavily modded. Both ran low 13's with no power adders.
My newest car. (The Cobra) Bought it all stock, since have installed a racing suspension, brembo brakes all the way around, Borla exhaust, and most importantly the Kenne Bell supercharger. With the new tune I got recently i'ts putting down nearly 625hp, and 643 torque. Next up is major weight reduction and many others. This won't be a drag car, rather a circuit car
Please, don't flame me, I'm not rich, I work very very hard, and have an extreme amount of patience. The VW and Saab I got at a great price, and rebuilt the cars myself. This Cobra is the first new car I've ever bought,(Unless you count the Saab Aero 2.3L Turbo automatic I got my fiancee) and I'm 28. Can't wait for summer, although the Cobra needs much more work, a new tune after the blower is installed, and although I believe I've chosen the best tires, we'll have to test them and see. Wish me luck. Long live racing! And all the best to you fella's wrenching as hard as I am.
The 9-3, 2.0T Saab and the MKIII GTI
The very best local driving cars.

The GTI, the Saab,(cars were inexpensive, I spent god knows how many hours making them perfect condition again, the Mustang, and I sold my explorer, which I regret with the snow we get here. That's about it, but I'm looking into a Vr6 Corrado, very nice, cherry, it's a total sleeper, looks all stock, running 360fwhp, no forced induction. I can't wait to drive it. And I also have an older mustang stricly built for the drag strip, it's a '67 with a 5.0 out of a '93 mustang cobra, it's an awesome engine, takes an extreme amount of absuse, we're running a lot of NOS through it.
I'm not one of those guys who thinks he's a king because of what I own, I appreciate everything I own, and help my family since I've been blessed.
If you'll go to vocational school to learn for car mechanic, they will probably teach you that modern engines aren't as reliable as they used to be. And that is because of those tight tolerances and modern technics!
They have a lot more of things to brake down. And tight tolerances mean that when something starts to wear the engine will stop running or instantly loose half of it's power, because it was designed to work in tight tolerances.
On another hand the 20 year old banger wasn't designed for tight tolerances, they made to last. So when the old engine has wearen off half of it's camshaft it will make a lot of noise, but keep running.
A modern engine in this state will stop. At least the ECU will go nuts and refuse to start the engine.
You missed the whole ricer thread/argument, didn't you?
Riceburners are made in the land of rice. Ricer is when you bolt on a bunch of junk in attempt to make your car "look fast". Unless you are Tristan of which ricer is just when you put anything that is not factory stock on your car .
This is my toy, never been stuck, not like my other wagon a '91 toyota hilux surf but I need it to tow the boat. The niva dosen't have the grunt on the hills.
