The damage in LFS, although pretty nice with relation to visualisation, still really arcade from the mechanical point of view. It's really hard to damage a car. You can hit a wall @200kmh orthogonally and get away with no mechanical damage at all (visual damage is really nice, as I noted before). You can hit a wall or another car pretty hard @any angle, and still get just a minor damage (which can be repaired @almost no time in pits during the race), while in RL a car won't be able to keep racing after this. OK, I'm sure you know what I mean.
I'm really disappointed we still have no more or so "realistic" damage, or, at least, a slider to set damage multiplier. And the possibility to repair your car during the race is arcede as well.
PS Yeah, I'm sure damage stuff in LFS is really arcade, I'm not just throwing a popular "critical" word.
