Quote from Shotglass :you dont happen to sell/produce shoes for a living do you?

Of course not , just seen too many people complaining that they can't run anymore or walk the next morning because they have been wearing some shitty Nike airs that JJB told them would be OK
well if you ask me the trick is to buy the simplest running shoes you can find that dont force you to walk in a certain way (some adidas seem to be particularly nasty in trying to force me to rotate the foot inwards) and let your own anatomy that youve adjusted your brain to for years figure out the rest
of course that requires that you walk barefoot often (eg at home) so your style of walking isnt maladjusted to some kind of shoe you wear daily

Quote from Nobo :Who has the time and the possibility to do an ice cold bath after every training??
We should give him easy advices. Things he can do simple.
To speed up recovery do exchange shower after your training. Start and finish with cold. If legs are your main concern you just need to do the legs not the whole body.

Sorry it isn't really time consuming at max you should be doing 3 times a week at the gym so I don't see how it is hard to do that, if your dedicated I mean, and anyway it's just a little advice i gave him, i'm sure there are other better ways but none that I know of since i'm not a trainer, anyway advice is advice it doesn't mean YOU HAVE TO do it, it means you can try it to see if it suits you.
Quote from AMB : a good way to speed up muscle recovery is an ICE COLD BATH and I mean literally ice cubes in, stay in for a few minutes after hard training, trust me it takes your breath away, ermm not sure what else... stay off fast food? ;P and gl

Can I just say that there is no need to take a Ice Bath unless it is impact training/sport (i.e. Rugby, American Football) you are doing, or a high level of fitness work (and by that I mean at the levels which pro football players and pro athletes do)

I'll imagine that at first you'll be at an easy level, enough just to get you into the 'exercise zone'. I do American Football, and have the joys of an ice bath after training.....I would'nt wish it for people who just go to a gym and do standard exercise on the machines.
I used to go to the gym but I found the driving time sapped my motivation, and then I wouldn't go very often, and then I cancelled my membership. Recently I have been getting back into resistance workouts but have been doing them at home. There is a lot of good information online on good workouts you can do at home with just your body weight, and maybe a few things like a medicine ball, swiss ball, and some free weights. Without a lot of expense you can get a variety of decent workouts without going to the gym.

I love doing this because I can do my whole workout at home in about the same amount of time it used to take me to travel to the gym! This makes it a lot more sustainable for me, because there's not a whole load of effort traveling etc etc. I like to work out Mon, Wed, and Fri, and I have a few different workouts that I rotate between to keep it interesting and to give my body some different challenges week to week.

As for running.... well I ran a few years ago on concrete without properly researching about what needs to be done to protect your knees. I don't think my shoes were ideal, I was only running on hard surfaces, I was heavy, and I probably wasn't stretching and exercising my legs in the optimum way to protect my knees, and I ended up with very sore knees after a couple of months. I stopped running, but have had trouble with my knees ever since because I have been too lazy to do my exercises. However since I started doing my exercises routines at home, I have been building the strength up in my legs a lot, and my knees are no longer sore. MUCH better than they've ever been since I stopped running, and nearly as good as they were before I ran
Quote from Crashgate3 :1. Cycle to the gym, and then back again, thus avoiding gym fees.

3. Profit.

I'd say what he said, but add 4. Eat sensibly!
Quote from danowat :NO THEY WILL NOT, I can't stress that enough, I have seen too many people get injured running in the wrong shoes.

well, i use standard sport shoes... ive done no damage what so ever...
Quote from theirishnoob :well, i use standard sport shoes... ive done no damage what so ever...

So just because YOU are ok, you assume everyone else is the same?
Quote from danowat :So just because YOU are ok, you assume everyone else is the same?

well, ive seen no terminal damage, im an adverage bloke in most aspects ( 6'3, 13.6ish stone size 14 foot ) so i can be a benchmark...

with the same guys/girls i see their, none of them have had complains about anything like that...

if anything get yourself the good sports jerseys ( with the vented armpits ) as sweat is a mofo... the minute you get uncomfortable, the more so your stride is effected...
