I tried Ubuntu...when I realised that it didn't want to run GTA4 or CoD or even LFS...I gave up and went back to windoze... (BTW..Windoze 7 is the canines vernaculars!)
Might be tempted again by Linux IF they ever get it to support mainstream games "out of the box"
Might be tempted again by Windows IF they ever get it to support linux binaries "at all"
I don't see how you are complaining about Linux not being able to run WINDOWS executables. Maybe game developers should actually make linux ports of their games...
I never used Linux, in fact I avoided it for years. Decided to try Ubuntu and have loved it since. So much more manageable then Windows, and LFS doesn't run too bad in WINE But native support from big studios would be superb.
I enjoy that Ubuntu is faster then Windows, prettier then OSX (Compiz Fusion \o/) and more reliable then them both.
Anyway, what wireless card are you using? My wireless stuff just worked out of the box on Ubuntu.
In fact, only bit of hardware I had to deal with was my video card.
I use Ubuntu on my laptop, where it is infinitely faster than Vista. On my PC though, it has no proper driver support (800x600 with no sound or internet, not fun), and actually runs slower than 7. It seems to be a kind of hit and miss affair at times. And also the only way to run Windows games is through emulation, which is slower than hand-drawing the game
Dougie's hands do 90% On a bike he'd probably do 2000% but it'd be monochrome, or have a few shades of green and brown, depending on where he's "drawing"
Not really though, I get ~15-20FPS in LFS on my laptop in Vista, where if it actually runs in Ubuntu (it usually crashes, or else refuses to load anything, like the attachment) it struggles to hit 1 or 2. I can draw 4 wheels and half a man in the time it takes to render it
And no DirectX apps run on my PC under Ubuntu using WINE, they just crash out and die. I've tried upgrading the GPU drivers to the latest Nvidia Linux ones, but they won't install either (complains about some missing lib, even after I installed it due to something else needing it before)
If Dell sell a computer with XP, I'd expect XP drivers - would I expect Vista / 7 drivers? Would be nice. Would I expect official Mac / Linux drivers? No.
To Jakg: imagine, you bought a new laptop with windows XP. 6 months after that, you upgraded to Se7en, and you spent money to it, but your drivers won't work.
What will you do?
