Ok I have had enough of this now to post about it.

Heres the situation.

on Random occasions (not always when playing a game but more often when playing a game)

What will happen is my Display will completely freeze. I will still have sound for 20 seconds or so OR until i press a button on a keyboard / controller, at which point the entire PC locks up and has to be hard rebooted.

I have done memory tests, Removed all memory and tried one at a time, replaced CPU, re-seated sound card / Graphics card, removed and installed new drivers (different versions also tried), replaced swapped out hard drives and reinstalled windows, Rest cmos on numerous occasions.

the problem is still occuring. I have not yet tried a new mobo or my old graphics card, or removed the sound card which will probably be my best step.

The only thing that the event viewer is telling me (that is not of normality) is this:

Quote :The ICS_IPV6 was unable to allocate bytes of memory. This may indicate that the system is low on virtual memory, or that the memory manager has encountered an internal error.

Normally i am brilliant at finding out whats causing things like this but this time i think its got me.

The system is not overheating in any way and nothing is overclocked.

System specs currently (brackets is the alternate item i have tested with):

CPU: AMD 6400 X2 (AMD Phenom X4 9950)
Ram: 4x1GB OCZ DDR2 800mhz 5-5-5-15 (tried 1gb at a time and 2 lots of 1gb Corsair 5-5-5-15 DDR2 800mhz)
Graphics: Nvidia XFX 9800GX2 (will try 8800GTX later)
Audio: Creative soundblaster X-FI Extreme audio 7.1
Motherboard: Asus M3N78 Pro
HDD: 500GB Seagate Baracuda + 250GB Samsung (36GB WD Raptor + 200GB Maxtor)
O/S: Windows Vista X64 Business edition.

so. I'm stumped.. anybody got any ideas i can try.
Did you check the PSU? I recommend a CWT PSU (which lots of Corsair, Chieftec ahd Thermaltake PSUs are underneath). They are really hard to kill and provide very stable and clean power
just swapped out my PSU for my old 850 watt coolermaster... see how that goes
well. that made no difference and neither did the GPU

so now m down to the Motherboard or Sound card.
Are you using the Crystalizer, CMSS or custom EAX effects? My Elite Pro doesn't like me turning Crystalizer on or off while running in 24bit or any ASIO mode on XP64, it's fine on win7 though.
Does it still do it when you're not connected the your network/internet?

Try disabling IPV6, pretty much nothing uses it yet and in my experience it just causes an assload of compatibilty problems, yet MS have had it enabling as default since XP service packs (go to your network connection properties, uncheck the IPV6 box, then disable IP helper service)
#7 - arco
0603, 0701 and 0801 all tried with no success.

IPv6 fully disabled, no success

Sound card removed, No success

Deffinately heading towards the assumption of Motherboard here.
Appart from swapping out hardware/ have you tested a different OS? (maybe create new hardware profile & user profile) also check stability in safe mode/
Have you installed anything recently, maybe do a rollback?
