Server load testing
Hi guys.. we need a bit of help.

Some may have noticed the TeamCCUK servers disappear about 3 hours after Patch T was released. Ouch. Goodbye Redbus!! We're in a new datacentre now, with (hopefully!) an even more monster connection.

We're also, coincidentally, renaming ourselves to "The UK Computing Network" (ukct.net), Computeam subsequentially, and of course our prefix CTR.

We're trying to determine server load capacities and behaviour, and we're now monitoring performance. We'd be really grateful if folks would beat the heck out of our LFS servers for a day or two, so we can get an idea of what our CPU goes through. We're running 20 LFS servers, and also a BF2 unranked server if anyone wants to give it a spin, and a UT2004 server... all accessible via ukct.net, or teamccuk.com.

If you're looking to strike up a match or a game, please consider leaning on one of our servers so we can get some figures through our network and box.

Thanks in advance!
Sam

Quote from dUmAsS :out of interest, whats wrong with redbus?

It's a bit of a long story, and I wasn't at the heart of it all so it's largely second hand, but basically Redbus dramatically increased their fees to prohibitively high rates, which resulted in several smaller ISPs who were located there suffering financially, and some of them going bust trying to meet the new costs.

Our ISP was saved by being bought out, and the new owner was keen to keep our business. So keen in fact that our equipment was held and our guy wasn't permitted access to remove it. Technically, even though it's our equipment, it's arguable that the law was broken. We weren't being told we couldn't collect our equipment.. we just weren't given any method to retrieve it.

When the new ISP got a solicitor's letter, their response to that was to pull the plug on the power to our kit.. that was about 3 hours after the new patch was released.. the LFS servers were full, and then we were suddenly offline

We contacted Redbus over the weekend, had a very loud and direct moan, and within a few hours of that we had access to the building. A few hours after that, we were in a new datacentre, and now that the domains are propagated to the new IPs, we're... BACK!!! :headbang:
