Strange Errors
hey, all

I'm back with another problem This time Its to to with MySQL and my wirless. First i'll tell you about my wirless. I re-formatted my copmuter, and loaded XP up succesfully, I want to connect to the network, but it doesn't seem to pick up the built in wirless card. Its an RM laptop, and I've also gone into the device manager, and its not showing in the network device section my wirless card, only the cable and the 1394 connection adapter. Can any one help? I dont know what the driver is called so i cant download it I know nothing. Also I installed Ubuntu on another partition, and I set it to connect to my network, with the wirless settings and that can connect fine, and i could browse the internet, but in windows XP, I cant do anything, because it doesnt doesn't seem to pick-up anything?

Before I reformatted my laptop, i saved backup files for my 2 databases. One is my forum, and elgg, and one is another for my site. After I installed XP I installed MySQL by putting the installer onto my caddy, and copying it to my laptop via USB, and it copied succesfully. In the installation I selected Execute and the 2 at the top at ticks but the start service failed, and it said it couldnt create a service? But when i looked in the service in MyComputer>Mange>Services, I could see the service MySQL and i could start it but it couldnt do it in the installer. Can any one help me here? I really dont want to lose my teams site, and forum, and networking center.

Kind Regards,

Owen.

What's the exact make and model of your laptop? When you say "built in" do you mean as a plug in module such as PCMCIA slot or actually internal to the lap top? What does Ubuntu report the adapter as? is it using a generic driver or a proprietory one? Any clues as to the make/model of the wireless adaptor under Ubuntu?

If you know the model of the lap top and it's an integrated wireless adaptor you should be able to down load the driver from the manufacturers website under a support page, or at least find out who actually makes the adaptor by googling your problem.

Sorry can't help with SQL, I stay well away from applications. But I think you would be better off posting your problem HERE

Edited to add - have you looked in the event log? you will probably find something in there relating to why the service couldn't be started. Try checking the services the failed service depends on. Make sure they are all running. Sometimes they can need to be set to "automatic" even though they are running, I've seen that before.
sorry buddy I cant help you there...but i have the same problem with my HP...says there isn't any wireless card in my laptop????...kinda wierd seeing as it's been connected to a wireless network for the past two years.
