Cyberseat - needs assistance
Many moons ago, when I had lots of free time, I did some work with Cyberseat promoting their motion platform with LFS at various shows and assisting with the development. I hadn't done anything with them for several years, but today I got a call from them asking if I knew anyone that could help.

The jist is that they need someone who is competent with LFS to help configure the latest version with their seat because they've got an order for one (yes, people buy these things!).

They are hoping to find someone in the Southampton area that can spare some time this week (or weekend at a push) to set it up, get it working again with LFS and checking that their calibrations give a 'realistic' feel. Is there anyone here that would be able to do that (and they would probably pay expenses for getting there and back, as long as you don't take the piss)?

Secondly, they are hoping to find someone who might be able to adapt a VPP steering wheel onto their platform, and reduce the weight of the VPP wheel as well, so that the driving experience is improved over the old Momo they currently have. It would be a bit of design work and a bit of practical engineering for the interested party, and could result in more work coming their way from Cyberseat and similar companies.

Thirdly, a slightly bigger project for someone (possibly someone who already has an engineering firm they can work with): assembly of Cyberseats. Although these are an ultra-small volume product, they still need somebody to build them - basically that would entail a big of fabrication making frames, the fitting of supplied valves, electronics and the like, and design improvements to improve reliability or decrease weight. At the very least it's extra work for someone who is struggling in the recession.

Two and three have been offered to me because I've worked with Cyberseat in the past, but I don't really have the free time to offer, and nor do I suspect that it's the right sort of work for our company that specialises in restoring classic cars - hence I'm offering it here.

But, the first part is the most urgent apparently, so if anyone in the Southampton area wants to spend a few hours setting up LFS on the Cyberseat then get in touch with me and I'll give you their contact details. I suspect the most complicated stuff will be setting up the controllers, configuring the Insim to work with their software (i.e. typing in numbers to the LFS config file), and unlocking LFS with their username.

Thanks
Wow, fantastic oppurtunity!! Would snap this up if I was in the right area!

Let me know if they need any help downunder!!

Best of luck if anyone is able to help them, may be a great opp!
I can just add that the guys from cyberseat are a cool team and it was always fun to work with them for me. So use that chance if you are in that area!
Neat,

I never knew this company existed. How much does a cyberseat retail for?

It would be cool if it worked with any wheel/pedal set (G25, Porsche) and it had a shifter mount. CST pedals are probably way too heavy for this thing though...
I think it depends on the exact configuration, but you'd be looking at the £10k to £20k region - i.e. it's not for the home market!!! They have had interest and sales in the aviation simulation market though, where this sort of money is considered affordable.

But the recent interest in it again as a driving tool has caused them to try and get LFS working on it again.

If there is anyone near Southampton (or if someone is willing to travel!) then they'll enjoy it, make contacts and who knows where else it could lead if you wanted it to. Plus you'll get to play LFS on a motion platform, which is quite exciting.

If you continued it further you'd be able to demonstrate both to "The Public", and show off your sim racing skills too - it's very amusing when you do a casual lap in a car a second or two off the WR, making it look easy before allowing a non-sim racing youth into the car - he (it's mostly males) will drive with one hand (a sure fire identifying feature of someone who can't drive) and try to win the race before the first corner. Then forget to brake or just slam the car onto full lock and spin/crash.

And that is worth watching no matter how many times it happens
I would love to do it,

I just got sent this from a freind but unfortunatly im quite far away from southampton as im in Sunderland, Ive set up many homemade cockpits for me and freinds and aslo drift irl (When i can) and tbh my setup atm feels alot like driving a real car without the obvious trees and tracks flying past you lol....

Good oppotunity here for someone, best of look in finding a person

If I were still living in Portsmouth I'd be interested, but where I am now, is a little too far to travel.

I'll be back home to visit folks next weekend, and could possibly nip over then for them, but I suspect they need someone sooner than two weeks time.
I would also be interested if only it were a little closer
After spending some time in the company of Tristan, I know it couldn't be that hard hehe (mind you, you were hungover that day )
Would the applicant require his/her own hacksaw? ROFL :P

I hope Cyberseat find someone to help set up LFS in time, good luck.

Mizer has volunteered his time via PM. I have given him Cyberseat's contact details, so hopefully this is sorted.

However, there may still be opporunities to work with them regarding the adaption of the VPP wheel (£1k worth of wheel, and you'll get to play with it) and/or the assembly of the base units as a commercial venture. They can, of course, be contacted directly through their website (which is a bit out of date in terms of content) - http://www.cyberseat.co.uk/

Dave - I might have been hungover, but that didn't really make me any more or less stupid! Hacksaw might be useful, but I think they will be happy to provide tools

Happy days though
I've stepped into the breech to help them out, probably very few of you know who I am but I'll certainly let you all know how it goes.

Thanks Tristan for posting this and getting in touch with me so quickly.

And yes, I am certainly no designer or engineer so I would suggest that anyone who is interested in the opportunities Tristan mentioned gets in touch with them.
It's really worth it to help them.
Just take a look

Just dug out some pics here from the inofficial private video T7R| Fordman did when he and Tristan promoted Cyberseat in 2005 at the MPH.

Fordmann also made an official vid for Cyberseat

Wow a pic from the old days nice Bernd.

And Tristan looks so young!!

Awsome that you have stepped up Mizer, good luck.

As much as I would love to be payed to play LFS, unfortunately racing with a gamepad and being useless with computers and hardware limits my ability to help them.
