Thought this should get it's own thread. How many here are aware that with auto-clutch turned off, shifting can be done by holding down a shift button before the shift, then tapping clutch button to do the actual shift? This reduces the actual shift time to the time it takes to tap the clutch button.

Edit: Hold down your shift button and bash some of the cars over South City's bumps.. Hey presto gear change without using the clutch at all! HAX!

If most players are aware of this, then why the fuss regarding macros? A macro to press clutch button, press and release shift button, release clutch button, isn't going to help if LFS just lets the shift button be held down and the clutch button used to do actual shifts.

After all the fuss defending removal of auto-blip and auto-clutch, I always wondered why no one complained about this non auto-clutch shift "exploit", other than the occational mention of the lack of auto-clutch players in the hotlap leaderboards.

Because Macros make it more interesting to use. I have a G-15 keyboard and it has built in macros...

So... You are saying an automatic transmission is more "Interesting" to use than a manual?

I think holding the shift up or shift down buttons should only count as a monentary press, and then the signal stops.

So basicaly, if you hold the button, it only counts for the instant you pressed it and no more. this way, holding the shift button and then clutching will not actualy shift.

For H-gate sim shifters the current behaviour will be mantained because that is how they function.

Which is the way it works on a lot of racing games, yet this issue never seems to surface in the threads here regarding macros. I had played LFS for a long time before I found out about this exploit in shifting (athough I continue to use a generic macro, which doesn't shift as fast, but does give me auto-blip and auto-cut).

I agree with JeffR. The macro i use is also not that fast, but its useful..

Works with a G25 as well, you can shift into any gear, then blip the clutch to change gear, although you do end up in neutral whilst waiting for the clutch blip.
