Loss of frames
Over the past week my frames have dropped from 20 to 6. But I cannot fiure out why? Any ideas?

:detective ,,,Been messing with any settings?

What is different between the time the FPS where normal and now, you must be doing something different or changed something?

Any clues?
Changed nothing apart from reset the router a couple of times. We have tried it with the same graphics card on a different laptop and my internet and h is getting the 20 frames. I had a virus which kept sending CiD popups but that seems to have stopped.

Oh, so I assume you can reach 20fps in single player and the problem is in your network?
Well now you mention it no.The frames are still the same in single player to te problem cannot be the network. hmm.
I think there is a problem with my laptop, me and my friends are both using GMA X3100 and he is almost getting double frames to me.
same drivers?
Laptop... are you sure you haven't switched it to power saving mode?

that is another possibility... damned speedstep.

another possibility is that his virus is still there

Network has no impact on fps.

to OP: try updating drivers.
Or, if you say you had a virus, maybe it takes over 9000 CPU cycles.
Hmm on inspection i found that I have the GM965 with the following settings which normall give me up to 30 frames:

Total Available Graphics memory: 358mb
Dedicated Memory: 0mb
System Video Memory: 128mb
Shared System Memory:230mb

Checking on my friends Laptop he has the GM945 with the following settings:

Total Availabe Graphics Memory: 251mb
Dedicated Memor:0mb
System Video Memory:64mb
Shared System Memory: 187mb

He has less memory onhis graphics card but still is almost getting double and sometimes triple the amount of frames as me.

We both have 2gb of Ram and I have a bigger hard drive.

Something must be wrong with my laptop.
it would seem that way, but check to see what drivers you're using... i'm pretty sure intel uses the same set of drivers for all their GMA chipsets.
Now then! I was on power saver! and alread I am getting 25 frames in the garage and Im scanning for viruses aswell!

Ill report back what happens.

thanks again!

/facepalm !

that's still pretty low, but i guess more tolerable than 5-10.

Thats a bold statement - it's not true, there are certain network topology setups that when misconfigured can easily effect system load, memory usage and CPU time
I always seem t ge better frames,as my internet is wireless when Im closer to the router.

Lemme guess, ping -f 127.0.0.1?

Why?

I'm just saying it's wrong to assume the network has no direct relation to system load.

For example, I've been messing around with my home network this past couple of weeks and with all the services, bell's and whistles up and running(shares, ftp servers)there is a dramatic load increase on both systems.

Network collisions and misconfigured routers and or switches(as the OP said he reset a couple of time) and lost or dropped packets in a wireless network easily effect system load, wrong?

wireless is terrible, i'd plug in the ethernet... but i don't think it would increase your fps.
I still think there is something wrong, I found out my friends has 1gb of Ram he thought he had 2 and he still is getting alot more frames than me! We are both Windows vista. He really puzzles me how I have a much better computer graphics and memory wise and he is still getting more frames
overheating?!?! give fans a good blow out,

he may have more frames, but wot settings is he using , both grx card related and lfs.

tried rolling back the system to when it was working ok?, knowing vista its some sort of 50% cpu hogging search gadgetythingymajig that took 30mins to auto update on startup when u really needed to get on the computer quick.

wipe it, and stick xp on it!
It's probably a CPU issue - what CPU do you both have? Unlike most games, LFS taxes the the CPU much more than graphics or RAM. The price you pay for good physics.

@bully2100 If the CPU is the issue, rolling back to XP is likely to make it worse, as Vista has better thread management
hi
i had the same probleme 1 week before i was getting about 10 fps , for me it was a cpu overheating probleme , the processor fan blades were covered in dust ,after cleaning everything went back to normal.
does lfs benifit for more than one core? does vista handle dx9 and below better than xp?
