i love you..
this car is one of my absolutely favourites, i thought about buying one but you just find them in total unusable condition or they´re too expensive
No im not a chav either, it's just the idiot's in their 1.1 Saxo's with their music blearing that give us Saxo driver's the chav status
Will end up doing a few bit's and peices to it eventually, have a late model MK1 spoiler to fit and will eventually stick an enclosed induction kit + small 3" piper exhaust system
Then I gotta save to get the wheel's refurbed and might mesh the grille
Going for the smart look, won't find any body kit's here
I took the wing off and did the whole job again in dads garage as its easier to work on like that.
I took the whole wing back to bare metal using nitromors paint stripper and washed it all down, re-filled the dent again (nitromors melted the filler from last week) and primed it with 4 coats of primer.
Then i went over it all with 1000g sand paper, washed it all down again and applied about 4 coats of the silver, and it sprayed on perfectly this time, and was exactly the same colour, 100% matching!
Then i used some 1500g sand paper and lightly went over the whole surface to get rid of the roughness left by the metallic flakes in the paint sticking up.
Then 4 coats of lacquer, and its done. In a few weeks all i need to do is use some rubbing compound to get rid of the 'orange peel' effect that has happened with the lacquer, probably because i was using aerosol cans which aint really the best way to do it.
The only downside being that now its lacquered, it has come out a different bloody shade of silver to the rest of the car, although the rest of the car does have a little dust and primer overspray on it from the first attempt so once its had a good polish im hoping it will match a bit better.
At least it looks better than having a massive dent and a rotten wheelarch anyway.
Thanks! Since i was a kid i dreamed of having my own mk1 golf(rabbit in north america) and now i have mine. I will eventually do a complete restauration and probably swap a small displacement high-reving engine in there.
Yes it's lowered, it has Patec Holeshot coilovers
@ dtbb, its alot better than before. Hopefully you can do something to get a better match. If you have some spare paint and lacquer left over, you should colour code your mirrors, side strips etc. Would make the car look 10x better.
I know, the problem is, i cant get the wing to sit properly anywhere other than where it is, as you say, it needs to go 3 or 4mm forwards, plus the bonnet has a little kink in it which makes the bonnet/wing alignment look wonky.
I need to take it back off again and bend some of the brackets around a bit to get it forward that little bit further.
Thank you! Like i said earlier, i plan on completely redo the car, id like to call it a restauration but it will be more like a resto-mod.
Front wings are jobber, they need to be trimmed to fit right, wich i dont really have the time for right now.
Thanks for the comments!
Here are two pics from tuesday at the weekly VW meet in Montreal:
Prakumba, better don't post video's like that, here. Because, some guys who drives max 1.3l fwd ''matchbox's'' thinks that is soooooooo dangerous, etc.
