New Guy in Need of Some Answers
Hey all, new around here and I've come here with two questions.

I got S2 Unlocked a fair while ago, stuff happened after I got it, and only recently with the patch have I been able to go racing. Now anyway, the questions I would like answered,

1. Is there any thread or file that has tips on how to improve driving itself? Such as how to pull out of corners, and what to do in situations.

2. Leagues, once I'm confident enough, I would like to join a league. What is involved? what to I need? Do I need to join or create a team, and so on.

3. Currently I have a low FPS on LFS, I can only get to 20fps online, with gameplay settings in game the lowest possible. Is there any other things I can do to get it lower than that. If not, that is okay, just until I get some new parts for my PC.

Thanks for any assistance you can give me, It's a great game, and in time, I hope to see most of you online racing and hopefully, being competitive enough to actually race you all.
1) There are quite a few general driving tips on the forum, maybe try a search and see if there is anything that can help, other than that, ask some specific questions and people will be only to happy to help out

2) Teams are only normal needed for endurance events, most (all?) other leagues it doesnt matter if you are in a team, you basically just sign up and thats that, sometimes there will be a hotlap/PB qualification for the league

3) Not really, is your PC running anything in the background, you could probably overclock your CPU/GFX card and get a little bit out of it, but I wouldnt recommend it, post your specs and we can tell you if its running under spec.

Welcome to the community, and enjoy it.

Dan,
Hey, theres a great hint and tip article on the team inferno website which concentrates on the setup side of stuff, but playing LFS its all about practice. So if you encounter a problem with stuff like your cars butt running wide around a corner check this:

http://www.teaminferno.hu/inde ... n=olvas&p_news_id=426

But its all about practice, so just take a car out that tickles your fancy (good one is the FOX for beginners, sticks like s*** to a blanket round corners )

Concerning leagues, ESL offer a pretty decent league, and yeah i believe you have to be in a team (i haven't actually tried leagues). You have to be at a fairly competitive level with all cars, which will take a fair few months of practice if not at least half a year.

20fps is quite low, i would recommend overclocking your pc, and formatting it. But i don't think your going to get much more out of your pc. Think probally time for an upgrade
Danowat, thanks for that information

Alright, lets see...

For 1. I want help in basically trying to find things like how is the best way to brake into certain corners (Different angles etc; ) . I might go for a search, see what I can find.

2. Thanks for that Seems much easier than I first thought.

3. Righto,

I'm currently running:
1.7Ghz P4
256Mb Memory
GeForce 2

All I can think of, off the top of my head. I'm soon upgrading to
4000+ AMD 64bit
1Gb memory
GeForce 6

Thanks for that, now I might take some more searches.

Rude to Double post I assume, so answer again here for sturje.

Thanks for the link about the setup. that should help me get off the ground, seems very simple for me.

Okay, that's alright, I know some people who play LFS not in a team that could seem interested, but first, practice is surely needed.

And, I answered some of the things you said above

Wow, also very quick responses, great to see that
If im being honest mate, best thing to do is to watch some replays off LFSworld (http://www.lfsworld.net). You can watch those who run WR's and how they enter corners, tbh this is the best way to learn how to enter corners etc And overal how to take the best possible line and maybe accel with an even better line

Your geforce 2 is the limiting factor for LFS. Overclocking won't yield much results. (it doesnt support shaders, the haze effect etc), if you overclock your CPU u might get 5-10fps more (when i overclocked my 3000+ athlon64 from 2ghz to 2.2ghz i got a 20fps increase. was quite surprised to say the least)

and heh, i'm at college at the moment, so all i've been doing all day is going through the forums

#6 - Krane
Krane, I tried that link, couldn't see anything on it I'm afraid. And yes, I'm a regular at RSC, especially in the GeneRally and OT section. Probably saw the 'Track Master' Label

Sturje, Thanks for the link as well, trying that now.
You DONT need to be in a team for the ESL league, just thought I'd clear that up.

Dan,
Really? :o I might join the ESL league then, im in a team but they pretty much focus on the oval Thats good to know.
Also furthermore to leagues, fragmaster holds various cups etc, which consist of a race every sunday. If your interested you can always pop into http://www.fragmaster.net and browse the forums

You kidding?Even overcloking his CPU would bring him online like 2-3 FPS boot not more.

I had GF2MX400 and it was very limitting my FPS even on 1.2Ghz Athlon.Adding ATI8500 almost dooubled my framerates(I had like middle quality and no AA+AF at all,no trees).

AMD A64 is a way too different architecture so boosting like 200Mhz is significal ammount of power against P4.

I get with A64 3200+(2Ghz) + GF6600 being a last in 21 field in start around 45-50 minimal framerates.Usually around 80-170 later.Thats all with max details and 4xAA + 16AX at 1024*768.

His AMD 4000+ will give him minimal FPS around 50FPs with such a big field.I usually have 80-100 with much less drivers at start.
LFS is a CPU intensive game, it WILL make a difference if only marginal. The architecture is different but LFS does not use the 64bit side of it. I'm positive he will get at least a 5fps increase, saying a 2-3fps increase is just wrong :S . P4's arn't completely shit, the architecture is different, but there is still a 800mhz FSB, overclock it the FSB will go up as well. Overclock it by 150mhz im sure he'll see a slight difference in fps around the margin of about 5fps more.

Hi,
his current FSB will be around 533Mhz max, please note his old P4 core and probably not verz friendlz motherboard for overclocking and he would not really get as much as you think Having FPS like 20 and adding like +5FPS doesnt make much difference.
And I can agree that LFS is one of the most or if not the most CPU intensive game.

I was not talking about A64 as it brings some benefit with 64bit instructions to LFS anyway. Its just now the best CPU for gaming beating by quite a bit margin Intel CPU`s.
umm hi i have a P4 1.7 ghz with a gig of ram, and a 256MB ATI radeon 9250 (PCI) and i want to know how far i can over clock my gfx card and my CPU with in safe limits. i dont want to mess up my stuff

I use to have a P4 2.5, 512 ram, and the same graphics card (I assume you mean the old type pci and not pci-express). I tried to overclock my card and saw no benefits to it. Maybe I'm wrong though, I'm not experienced in overclocking.

I don't know? I would assume you'd want to cool it better than the stock heatsink. If someone else can answer that question, perhaps I'll load my old gfx card and overclock. I assumed even an old pci card would be better than onboard, but I had a huge framerate drop using the card over the new ATI onboard Radeon Xpress 200. I'm now running A64 3500 with a gig ram and really need a gfx card to open this thing up.
He he, ARSE sounds like... oh never mind. Okay, I'll have a look there. Be nice to talk to some Aussie's about it.
Adam, then what about maybe joining Cads and my team SVR?
As for the driving tips, I'd just download a few replays from lfsworld.net and watch those (display pedal inputs).
I'm getting better, 1:09.33 at BL GP in a FZR. Feel proud about that. But I have a fair way to go still.

Okay, new problem. When racing online, I've been told I lag a fair bit. I have ADSL 512/512. However, I get 3-5fps on the starts with many cars around. With few, I get 10-15fps. Would the lag be from the connection or the Frame rate?
Hi Crowella im a noob myself to LFS but not to sim raceing. The secret to being fast is the drive out from corners.Where most guys go wrong is they brake too late and run wide then lots of time is lost before they can get on the gas.Try brakeing a little sooner to make sure you make the apex of the turn then on the gas as fast as you can slow in fast out.To be very fast you have to be fast in and fast out but that takes time to master aslong as you make apex and get good drive out your times will be quick
Yep, thanks for that I'm getting used to it. I think the low FPS is what is really hurting me with my driving. Just reacting seems hard when you suddenly seem a bit more sideways.

I noticed your intended system upgrade. If you could get the new graphics card ASAP, that would sort out your frame rate problems.

GeForce2 was definitely a good card in its time but it can't do hardware vertex shading. There is your main slowdown... your computer is sending all polygons to the graphics card, every frame!

Welcome to LFS, Crowella and John Dolan.
Thanks for the welcome

All I am waiting for is the tax to be paid, and then, the money to arrive from America. Unexpected website work pays off.
