ADAC Nurburgring 24h may 20..24, who's going and who has tips?
Hey guys,

The mother of race circuits isn't used for all that many races, but the 24H race is a high point in the year. Two mates and me are going; we're hiring a van, bringing some tents and scaffolding (damn fences..), bbq and fridge, hoping for nice weather.

Are there any veteran visitors around? We basically plan to ''show up'' tuesday afternoon, hoping to find a decent spot somewhere around the track, put up our tents and open a few beers.. Perhaps 24h veterans have some tips or warnings for us, that would be most appreciated.

/Niels

PS: yes we'll bring plenty of bog rolls..

ATHome and me are going, somewhere around the noon of Thursday. Me being a Ring noob, I probably can't tell you much other than generic advice.
Bring boots, be nice to your neighbours and some kind of FM receiver wouldn't be bad too (or DVBT).
I'll be lurking here for some pro-advice too.
Never forget the toilet paper. Oh, and duct tape can be useful, too
Be prepared for every possible weather condition: wind, rain, boiling sun. Another thing I learned on music festivals is to dig a rather deep hole to put your cool box into, so that it keeps cold longer (and away from thiefs).

And keep an eye on your stuff, there are always not-so-nice people on these sort of festivals. Tie your wallet and keys to your trousers.

Don't forget snow - I know it's unlikely, but that happened before.
Weird pics Can we have some cars instead of you racing flate?
Those are some great pics you've got there... I like the rays of light and night down from karoussel ones best

Those damn fences make it really hard to get a decent car picture in. I don't have many good ones, only the slowest cars seemed to be happy to be taken pictures off, probably something with my panning skills
Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :It was a noisy (10000 small generators, 1000 nearby speakers with mostly tastless music..) week but also a great one. Here are a few piccies

Nice pictures.

As for the wires, you can either try putting the lense in the gaps (as close as you can) or try focussing through them... they'll appear much less prominently..

I've a low-end digital camera and had the same problem when they put up fences in some corners at Mosport a couple years ago. My camera would auto-focus on the fencing instead of the purdy cars on the track. Without having a manual focus there's no way around it; unless you go to a spot without fencing, of course.
Mr. Plate is awesome xD!
The one with the porsches was deliberatly focussed on the fence! The camera does have a manual focus but even then you see a sort of blurry fence. You can't really pan with the lens sticking through the fence either.

Then again, choosing between a fence or a car crashing into the crowd..
