Raising money for charity, possible LFS / Driving games related?
As you may, or may not know, I am currently training for next years London Marathon.

The places for this are determined either by a ballot, which I have entered, however, the chances of getting one are not great, there were 120,000 ballots this year, and out of those, only 30,000 get in.

The other way to do it, is to apply for a gold bond place with a charity, as I am Diabetic, the obvious one is Diabetes UK, they do a lot of good work, and considering the increase in diabetes cases in the UK, they are going to become busier and busier in the future.

To qualify for a gold bond place, you need to raise a minimum amount of sponsership, in the case of Diabetes UK, its £1850, which if you don't raise, you have to make up the shortfall youself.

Basically, before I decide to apply for a gold bond place, I am just after a quick brain storm for ideas on how to go about raising this kind of money, and if they can be LFS, driving game related, then all the better!!!

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Cheers
There was a charity event at Virtual Racing called "Formel Kinderlachen" back in January, you may want to have a closer look at this.

<ot> had my first half-marathon yesterday, yeah </ot>
I am shot of ideas, and sorry for that. But I am all in for some charity racing or something. That means that we'll give some bucks and have some kind of competition around it? (money goes to charity ofc)
All in for that, I can not help out very much, but something for a good cause I can do.
I was thinking something along the lines of a sponsered 24hr race?, that way you can have teams, and you can get more people entered.

Wonder how many people would be up for it, and at what price point......

It's a difficult one.

What you could do with is some incentive, a prize for the winners. This would have to be donated to the cause though, so not to eat into the sponsor fund.

£5 a man with 6 man teams and a full grid would be £960, so about half.
£10 a man could seem a bit much. Then again, if a half-decent prize is there it could be worthwile.

If you can fill 2 servers, then £5 a man would be spot on.
You could fill more servers by instead of having a 24 hour race having an endurance weekend, starting with 1-2 hour knockout rounds (with a repechage system so that a team won't be kicked out straight away if there's a nasty pileup) and having a 6 hour/8 hour/1000km finale ending late on the Sunday.
do what i do when im short for cash, get two cheap cars, identical if possible... i.e renault laguna... one with say a head gasket issue, one with a bad g/b.... use the two to make one good car, mot it a months tax and sell it at a high profit.

4-8 cars could make you more then enough.
