Not necessarily. It depends on how much physical RAM you have and what OS you have. If you have 8GB on XP Pro x64, for example, then running with 12-16GB of pagefile is almost certainly going to be overkill. 1.5-2 times your physical RAM is a common rule of thumb but it doesn't always hold true. The most efficient way of determining what you should run is to monitor your physical RAM and virtual memory usage when you perform the most intensive task(s) you plan to use your computer for. If you find you're only using 20% of your allotted virtual memory allowance then you can safely drop it down, thus giving you more free space on the drive that holds your page file. The gain you're going to get in free space is pretty minimal, though, so if you're in a situation where you desperately need a few more GB of free space you should probably be thinking about investing in a second hard drive or an external USB2.0/FireWire/eSATA enclosure.
